Friday Open Thread: 32 Men Left Standing

It's over, 11-5. Comically, Earl has nothing but fire for his opponent who shot an .895 Accustat match.

Well played, Mr Majid. You're not under my radar any longer.

of all you mentioned, Dennis Orcullo seem to have figured out the break, he spends more time focusing on the break shot more than any shot, and nails the one on the side, and have a shot at next ball, as in Efren match! my prediction though is KarlBoyes/ Darren Appelton in the final! crazy, but strong hunch! i wanted to say DO, but did not come out!

Dennis is dividing that lead ball down to 64th's. :D
Cut break with draw and side spin.
If they used a Magic Rack, who knows how many racks he'd run.

The difference is the American pool culture thinks pool pros are bums with no jobs. There is no respect for talent in America when it comes to professional pool. Qatar, on the other hand, respect pool as a spirt. Therein likes the difference.

Yeah, as a two-year host of the WPA World 9-ball Championship, Qatar is stepping up to the plate in our sport.

Majid a very good player, but to my eye, not one of the ten best left. Wishing him the best in his next matches.

if you all remember, it was Waleed Majed who eliminated Corteza and Appleton, at last-64 and last-32 respectively, in this year's world 9-ball.

Do you remember who beat Majed in the last 16?

No offense JAM but how do you or anyone else know how Qatar respects pool players. I am sure that if Johnny Archer or SVB travels overseas the real story of US pool isn't told and it is all candy canes and lollipops.

Talk to those who have been in Qatar. They know better than me. I'm only relaying what the pool peeps have said. You see, the difference between Qatar and the United States is Qatar pays their players to practice pool and get better. The United States spits on our pool players like they're the scum of the earth, ridiculing them at every turn. Therein likes the difference. :)

The government backs him, that's respect !

Who plays next, Accu-stats still only naming one horse for 12:30 ???

I watched Nick the Greek and Robb Saez race to 30 9 ball...ended at 4am. First 2 legs tied at 20all ....then Robb hit a late night gear that put Nick the Greek to sleep!! Beat him 30 to 22 if If I recall correctly....man Robb was rolling!

Also Mike Davis vs Lil mike one pocket. Mike spotting him ball or 2 ? Was wearing him out. Not sure the final score or race but Davis won easily.

Who is lil mike? Tks

they even hired Antonio Gabica (from PH) as trainer/coach of their national team. if you noticed last w9b, Gabica was representing both Qatar and the Philippines.

I just wanted to sneak in my dark horse pick to win it all from here -- Daryl Peach.

He plays Corey Deuel next and I think he will win that. I've always liked the way he composes himself under pressure and with the 9 ball on the spot I think this increases his chances a lot.

He's my dark horse.

At this stage, any of the last 32 (or is it 24?) who is not a top gun (like Niels, Apples, Shane, Thorsten) is a dark horse.
I am pretty sure the winner this year will a dark horse/underdog/ lesser known or old dog
:D
