Coverage of mosconi matches in progress

:p

Delighted Appleton defeated SVB (for the 8th straight time, apparently), Europe deserving the overnight lead.

C- is a pretty generous rating, considering his record.

Some fabulous pool played by both teams, really looking forward to the rest of this

I did a search for Shane Van Boening vs Darren Appleton and the first thing that came up was a 2014 match and Shane won it 7 to 3.

The next one that came up in 2014 had Shane beating Darren in the final of the Andy Mercer.

Maybe Darren was saying Shane won 8 straight.

It has been an amazing match so far and I can't wait for more. I really do wish the races were long though. I could have used a couple more hours of watching Gray vs Schmidt. Best match of the day imo.

I think Darren was kidding. FYI, Darren beat Shane at the Accu-stats Make it Happen event at Sandcastle a few weeks ago and Appleton/Boyes were victorious over Shane/Strickland at the World Cup of Pool.

Also, Darren over SVB at the World 14.1 in August and at the Challenge of Champions in October.

Some say good play, some say not. I must say I found the day to be entirely enjoyable, similar misses by both sides, and some great shots too....along with some great safes, too. BTW, a pressure 9-ball by Corey after Appleton missed the 9 ball down the rail.

John Schmidt gets the gold ring for day one in my book. Great singles match, hard fought and won by John against a very strong playing opponent in Gray. With positive vibrations given by John throughout the match. Well played!

Again, a fun day 1, with both teams ready for an exciting day 2. Delighted so far.

ESPN3 works very nicely for me. Hope so for all others as well.

ok.....since there's a "chicken dinner" on the line here, I wanna know how many side-dishes are typically included in a "chicken dinner", and does it include bread, and does it include any dessert?

??

Unless Daz was BSing (which I doubt) I am shocked he beat SVB the last 8 times they matched up
In MC singles H2H record, Daz now ahead 3-1
Don't know about non-MC matches

Really bad days for Shane --- no question about it.

Racks played

Full team match 0-1
Teamed with Bergman 1-5
Against Appleton 3-5

Fifteen racks played and just 4 won for Shane.

Tomorrow is another day. Schmidt was the man of the day on Mosconi day one and special mention goes to Justin Hall, who also looked solid, and whose bank of the six ball after a Deuel mistake vs. World Cup of Pool champions Appleton and Boyes at 3-3 proved to be the match winner.

Grades for day one

John Schmidt A
Justin Hall B+
Corey Deuel C
Justin Bergman C-
Shane C-

Looking forward to seeing who brings it on day two.

Very good summary . I like the player grades. Keep grading them

The coverage by SkySports is first rate and the commentary is good, just the right amount of talking and being quiet. All four coms are pros. Yes Jerry miscalled a few but let me tell you it's hard to see the table from their booth and you must rely on small monitors. Jerry is an excellent commentator! Phil Yates has stepped it up a speed as well. He seems to be much better prepared than he was for the World Cup.
Thanks for clarifying the small booth monitors Jay. It seemed they couldn't see what was obvious on my big screen, such as how the player was aligning to the shot. It's a shame they don't put a large monitor in the booth. Sure makes the com's job very difficult.

Agree that the commentary has been great in all other regards! :grin-square:

Wish you were in there too btw!

Line up for Day 2 is out

Singles will be Deuel v Boyes
Bergman v Niels

Yesterday's singles players will only play doubles today so no Shane or Darren in singles

wow - i hate to say it, but my picks are:
round 1 - EUR
round 2 - EUR
round 3 - USA
round 4 - EUR
round 5 - EUR
hopefully i'm wrong

After an 0-3 start for Shane on Day 1, I think he'll be fired up today and I feel that matches 3 and 5 will be the critical matches today, and we need them! If we can also split the two singles matches, a tall order, we'll catch Europe today.

If USA Lose narrowly (say 11-8 or 11-7), it would be considering a victory

Another year with more team building and experience and on US soil, and then USA will truly be ready to compete if they fall short this year

Seventeen of the twenty US Moscocni teams won at least eight matches, and just two of them won less than seven, one of those chosen entirely by Matchroom. Less than eight matches won would be very poor and establish this team as one of our four worst ever.

We need to win this and anything less would be disappointing. There are no rebuilding years in pool. The time to perform is now and if we don't, we'll need to look at ourselves objectively in the mirror.

I think Hall and Bergman take down the first match today. I like our chances in all of the doubles matches today.
