I am a Producer for American Road Player, Let's Talk

Yeah, but still.... show the ball rattle in the pocket... zoom out abit and actually let us see the miss. We still want to see him grimace in pain as he shits down his leg, but we also want to see the ball bobble and stop right there hanging in the pocket. We the viewers want to see it all.

Do you watch many golf tournaments when a guy is putting to win the Masters and they show his face as he misses the shots and we do not see the ball lip out of the pocket? No? Do you know why? Because it would be dumb to not show the actual shot and miss. We get the view of the face and exceptional grimace of pain in the replay as he blows the makeable putt. Golf gives it ALL to us, because the viewers want that, and they obviously know what the viewers want a hell of a lot more then freaking pool promoters and presenters.

There has been a great deal of speculation about this shot so here is the explanation. We were tight on Spanky because we wanted the close-up response on Spanky as he won. It had been a very electric night and that was my direction to the cameraman. In hindsight, I agree that it would have been nice to see the entire shot, so lesson learned, but it is the way it happened. There were over 50 people in the room watching very closely and I assure you there is no conspiracy. I have over 8 hours of footage from that night so I am sure could find a missed shot with a better perspective than that one if I wanted to "fake it", but as I said I was being truthful and trying to make a real moment interesting for viewers. I take a great deal of pride in my professionalism and honesty so I would not open myself up to this forum if I was not willing to be transparent and accept all opinions so I understand everyone's perspective. The fact is that if we had budget that golf has we would have 10 cameras pointed at Spanky, Scooter, the crowd, the nine ball, the girlfriend, the money and so on... We have done with what we have had to this point and the reason we are looking to boost our budget is to be able to present this show in a way it deserves. Also, there has been several comments about the $40,000 budget. The actual working budget for this shoot is 100K so raising the $40,000 is only part of that total. My company has funded this venture completely to date and we are currently planning to take on the post production cost also. My job as a producer is to raise the money so I am being as creative as I can to do so. The idea is to raise the 40K or hopefully more on the crowdfunding and the additional funds are already committed or will be. Hope this helps with some of your questions.
Thanks

True. I wonder how many cars are "repo-ed" outside of pool halls.

On another note, I'm starting a new show called "Pool Hall Rescue". Hey Bar Rescue does OK.

The thing about the other rescue shows, or reality show is they have not had to go begging for money to cover the cost of production.

Pool Hall, or Pool Bar Rescue would be a show many Pool Room, or Pool Bar Owner should watch to save their failing businesss.

But the problem is many of the owners are not open to doing anything to promote, or give their businesses a face life, or through cleaning.

The idea of it take money to make money is totally foreign to many business owners. They think all it takes is the desire to always want to own a Pool Room, or Pool Bar, and the money will flow like water.

.

Plus, most likely only have one camera... this is not an episode of Big Bang Theory ;)

I think the idea is great and Scooter is an amazing character, it's too bad this is only for the web for now. What are your thoughts on the other pool reality shows that are in production now for tv networks?

Scooter needs to go try and make a game with Richard Rawlings!! Get you some of that! :D

I think a show like the demo video about pool would be very cool if done properly. Maybe use the formula that the show Street Outlaws uses...they have a bunch of characters that hangout, talk shit, do call outs and match up, usually with bragging rights and cash on the line. Is it a bit edited and scripted? You bet! But if you like cars like I do and have spent some time out at the "illegals" the show catches the feel of it and it is a hell of a lot of fun to watch! A pool show would be same I think.

Any of these types of shows have one thing in common by the way.... The "purists" of these niche activities all whine and find fault with every little detail instead of just enjoying the shows as entertainment.

If you are trying to have a product for TV or anything remotely serious, asking for $15 donations is borderline ridiculous. If that is your business plan, this is another 'pool idea' that will fail.

hard to say

Unless you are familiar with crowdfunding it may seem strange but it can and does work sometimes. Recently somebody wanted to put out a new edition of a video game. My exact numbers may be off but best I recall they raised $700,000 in three days which was their primary target. They raised about twice that in a week which allowed for considerably more bells and whistles.

If a pool show generates enough interest that the regulars at a crowdfunding site start buying into the idea it can be a very successful way to raise money. I have considered it myself. Basically success depends on how appealing a package you can put together. Most investors are putting in because they like helping create something rather than for the small trinkets usually involved.

Director Robert Rodriguez wrote and directed his first movie, El Mariachi, about a gun slinger and a Mexican singer. He made the entire move for less than $10K, some it by selling his own blood over and over. Most of the actors were not paid, and many were not even actors, but they worked cheap. He got lots of recognition for the movie, and his career took off after that as well.

If I were a betting man (sorry Outre Bron) which I am, i'm betting every one on this site will be watching the American Road Player when it comes out.:yeah:

Personally, I think you guys have a winner here and I am more than happy to donate what little you ask for to be a part of something positive for a culture that millions of people are a part of, including myself.

I believe that your cast of characters are perfect to start this show with, and i'm sure there are many characters in our world that can charm and entertain the masses of people that will (hopefully) be watching this show. :rotflmao:

^^ This. ^^

I love the idea and will definitely be watching if it comes to fruition. I hope my meager contribution helps. I've spent more on Girl Scout cookies so it's pretty easy to justify.

I donated about a C-note. I'll be honest. I want to help the project, but I was really more interested in collecting the baseball cap for Keith, shirt, and towel. Hey, I'm a shopper at heart. :grin-square:

Hall of Famer Bill Incardona would be perfect for this project. Not only can he play, but he knows the game inside and out. He has a good voice for commentating, as well, which is a bonus.

Here's a cute shot of Bill Incardona and Keith. :)

Getting Billy involved is one of the strongest moves they could make to bring about the type of success they have in mind. Great move JAM!

TO THE PRODUCTION:

Also, while I haven't read the entire thread and don't know if these questions have already been address, please forgive me for asking again.

Why ask for donations in the month of the year that straps everyone for cash? December has got to be the worst month of the year to solicit funds.

Also, Derby City Classic has lots of potential to be the best place for getting funded by random people. The place is crawling with folks who walk around with $10k in their pockets all day long. Extend your campaign to encompass the DCC events with a booth setup to accept donations. Doing this, IMO will go a long way in advertising your project, the eventual series, and an opportunity to increase the required funds exponentially.

We have been working towards this becoming a network TV show for three years, and in that time we have successfully pitched to many networks and none have taken the final leap to buy the show. We decided to move to the Web, so we can create the audience we know we will have and then the networks will take more notice and be inclined to purchase a successful show at that point. This is becoming a very popular way of moving to the networks and you will see much more of it as all of the networks start to launch their web channels. The popularity of netflix, Hulu, You tube etc... is proof of that. We have heard much speculation about "Pool shows" that have been bought and are in production but we have seen anything within our contacts, but that does not mean it is not true. The fact remains, that we have a great cast and a great story with growing support so, I am confident the public will enjoy our show, even if there are others!
Thanks.

Well said, the crowdfunding sites have raised over a billion dollars world wide to date and there are over 30 million visitors each year to the indiegogo site. The beauty of this is that you have the opportunity to bring in a wide range of new "cross-over" audience members. This is a great way to add to an already growing desire for a show like this.

Thanks for the comments and questions. We have been raising money in more traditional ways for this show for over six months now and this is the final step to the $100K budget. The shooting will begin in mid January and finish at the Derby so, we are raising the money now to shoot then. Our plan is to also bring in the audience while we are shooting with on-the-road video updates, live events and so on. Check out these incentives on our site:

Didn't know that you had been raising funds elsewhere as I hadn't heard about this project prior to a few weeks ago.

I'm a supporter already Peyton. I've donated through Indiegogo...good luck with your project!
