Seriously considering moving to Waco, TX

To set up my shop again for working on pool tables, as well as delivering Diamonds pool tables from the factory to TX as well as the surrounding states. Once I'm settled in and set up again, I'm considering setting up a pool table mechanic school for training table mechanics this trade.

So, I was kind of wondering what some of the Pro's and Con's would be should I commit to this move.

I lived in TX. Really liked it.

1. There's no state income tax.
2. Lots of hot women.
3. Amazing food.
4. Should be a strong base of people to draw from. As in, a concentrated population.
5. Lots of hot women.
6. Centrally located in the U.S., for the most part.
7. Weather is hot, but at least you don't have to deal with snow/ice.
8. Lots of hot women.
9. Texas is truly a whole 'nother country and gives off that independent vibe that I like.
10. If you don't have "a thing" for smokin' hot Latinas.....you soon will.

I lived in Houston, fwiw.

I'd be very interested to hear about your plans, prices, curriculum, class length, etc. for a table mechanics school. I'm just over in Arkansas, so it might be doable for me.

From what I've heard from several ppl that have lived there and currently live there, nothing good in Texas, it's a black cloud for pool...
No one could ever imagine the hacked up crap in Texas..

I'm going to bet you'd have a huge burn pile if you set up shop there!

You know what they say about Texas.....

Glen, you can do much better in another state...
If your after warm weather year round, it's good climate but I think you can do better.
WTF made u choose TX??

NO WAY you could educate the hacks in Texas!

Wow!

I live here and never knew any of that!

Seriously. Texas is a great state. I'm in Dallas and we have a pretty strong pool scene here. Don't get me wrong, we would love to have more and better places to play, but there's plenty of pool around.

Go back and look at the entrants to the BCA nationals in Las Vegas over the last 10 years. You'll see tons of Texas players.

Waco is a great little town, but it is pretty small. If you're looking to be in Central Texas, I'd look to Austin. But I still think Dallas and Fort Worth would be better. I'm originally from Houston, and they have a very strong pool scene there, but it's not really centrally located.

You're better off here in SoCal, Glen.
TONS of GC's here that need real-fixing .
Hundreds of them with K-66 cushions and belt sanded sub-rails.

I believe Waco would be a good spot based on the nature of what you do.

You have an easy 3.5 hour driving radius to major population points such as
Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio which could also influence
Diamond to set up a storage warehouse for you there.

The rent/lease factor will be a lot lower in Waco than any of the places in
the driving radius, which could also influence Diamond to set up a storage
warehouse/training facility for you.

Maybe you could get a contract with the Clicks chain as their mechanics seem
to never get the tables right....or could be Clicks won't pay right...could be both.

Texas

Waco, not a bad place but there are more centrally located places that have everything you are looking for. Abilene, Wichita Falls or even DFW area. Abilene is in dire need of a serious mechanic. There is a billiard supply store and a custom cue maker there as well. From Abilene you can be in any of the other cities in a matter of hours.

If you have any contacts, maybe Brunswick or Diamond can give you some numbers about table demographic locations.

Danny knows Tx +++ WACO for cost

AUSTIN for quality of life

Glen, what do you value more?

Sounds good to me RK! Nothing wrong with Texas if you can't live in Oklahoma! Nice to hear you may be close to Okc. Where are you headquartered at now? Thought you were out east somewhere. Thinking housing cost in Texas is close to Oklahoma, but probably slightly more. People moving from California to Oklahoma are shocked at how much house they get for the dollar. Too much hustle and bustle for me in Dallas, and Houston is too hot. Austin is pretty nice. Good luck with your decision.

An easy call..,

Texas has five of the country's largest cities by population, a good median income level, the economy is good and growing, good weather 9 months of the year, a GREAT COST OF LIVING, you can actually afford a 3,000sqft house with room for a 9' table and more Pool Hall's than any other part of the country by far.

You may not love it, but you'll like it.

Contact Ray Hansen (Big Truck). He is from Waco.

He can give you the skinny on anything you need to know.

I'm actually looking at a 2,000 square foot warehouse, with a 1,000 square foot 2 bedroom apartment, 2 full baths and an additional 18'x32' outside garage for $1,250 a month lease. Shop is 40'x50' with 2 big roll up bay doors completely open space and 20' ceilings. The apartment is on the ground floor as well as second floor. And because I don't commute back and forth to work in my line of work, it's more important to be more centrally located than anything else. It's easy to work at pool rooms when you arrive in a motor home towing a mobile work shop, stay until I'm done, then go back home for a break. Then take off again for the next job. Running back and forth to the Diamond factory to pick up tables for delivery or distribution would be a natural as well. And yes, I'd be easy to store table for quicker delivery from a warehouse already in TX, than it is to drive 1,800 miles round trip just to pick up a couple of tables headed to TX.

Forgot to add it's a free standing building on a 1 acre fenced lot all by itself, its also gated, so no other businesses around the building or even close.

Sounds like a winner Glen.
If you can stand the Texas heat . And pistol-packing mommas.
