Shawn Putnam going off about Cyclops balls, saying he'll never play in a tournament that uses them again....other pro's chiming in, Mark Griffin as well....

Wow. Just wow.

Make your popcorn and check that train wreck out

That's hilarious! The pros are making so much money (not) that they're going to "boycott" a brand of balls. Sure they are. LMAO A REAL professional player plays under any conditions, on any size table, at any time...and performs. Crybabies trying to dictate what will or won't be done by them is just plain silly.

I've never seen or heard of Shawn going off. He must have had a really bad experience with them.

I saw a guy knock his break cue over and it hit the tile floor while he was shooting. He laid his cue on the table, stepped over, picked up his break cue off of the floor, and looked at the guy like he was an idiot. He never said a word while he inspected his cue and sat it under the table and continued his match....which he won.

Well, the lack of tact and diplomacy that some pro's continue to display never fails to amaze me.

Really. Mr. Putnam is an interesting cat

According to Putnam, he barely competed in 2014 because he couldn't compete for a spot on the Mosconi team.

Seriously.

Just because you haven't witnessed it yourself, doesn't mean there hasn't been serious tension between many of the pro players and the "powers that be" in holding tournaments.

Believe me, it's not new.

The real trouble is that there just isn't enough money behind it all. Keep in mind that the money does not come from the tournament directors, or sponsors or advertisers. It come from patronage by the fans of the game. They buy sponsors and advertisers products and they buy tickets and streams, etc to watch the events. Without a solid fan base spending their hard earned cash on something they like, meaning professional pool. These struggles will continue. Players will always want more because they struggle to survive. You'd be amazed at how little these guys live on sometimes. Promoters will stop putting up their dollars on a very risky venture with almost no chance to make a profit, just to have at least some kind of an event for the players. You'd be amazed at how much money has been lost trying to promote Professional pool.

If I try to make living pitching horseshoes I only have myself to blame. Same goes for pool players...it's always been a dead end street. A handful of exceptions over 50 years does nothing to prove otherwise. Entry fees comprise the biggest portion of "prize money" in most events.

Where's Spiderweb Dave when we need him? We need another one of his terrific animated videos...this time of the crybabies complaining about the "baaaaaaad balls"! LOL :D You know, if you don't like the equipment...simple solution...don't play the event. It's okay, there are plenty of others ready to take your place...and if not, there aren't a line of people waiting to promote professional pool events either. Smart people don't bite the hand that feeds them! :D

Well this is working out perfectly! What other changes could be made to drive more of the old school idiots out of the pool scene and being in some new blood who won't keep fvcking everything up?

I hate the Cyclops balls.
No way I'd use them in anything other than just some local stuff that doesn't matter.

Well, if Shawn isn't playing in any tournaments that use Cyclop Balls, neither am I.

So there.

Read between the lines. Shawn didn't get Cyclop Balls from Santa, (all his Friends did), so now he is mad at them.

Admittedly, the big Pink one is a tad hard to look at tho.

Exactly right. Well said, Scott.

Being color blind, I could care less what kind of balls are used as long as everyone is playing on/with the same equipment.

Funny thing is, most of my life, everyone thinks when I walk around studying the layout on the table, I'm looking at angles and such.

Nope, most of the time I'm looking at the numbers on the balls. LOL

Do you have a *reason* for this? Please don't say you don't like the colors, because they make standard colored sets too.

I think the Cyclops balls play excellent. As good as any other set. For a 9' table, my preference is Super Aramith pro with the measle cue ball. Or centennials with the blue circle centennial cue ball. I have only competed with Cyclops balls on Diamond bar tables. I've practiced on the pro tables at the BCA last year.

Just wondering what the explanation is. I'll try to check out Putnam's post.

The Cyclop balls have much more phenolic resin in the brew which make the surface hard and slippery but don't take heat well...
Polishing and cleaning pool balls correctly is a science....stay tuned.....

I agree with your position, but I don't understand the not working thing? I LOVE the game and I support the game, I buy the streams, the AccStats products all kind of equipment you name it I have tried it.

But I don't think players are struggling to survive, I think they would rather play Pool than work, and if that's your choice then thats fine, but its not the games fault that you have made the choice to go without.

With the speed that most of these guys play it wouldn't destroy their ability if they had to take Monday to Thursday to bring in a little extra?

I like people trying to do things to improve pool. Diamond is always trying to upgrade their package, currently they are moving to Cyclops being the ball set. "IF" the balls skid more expect them to find out why and come out with non skid Cyclops. Perhaps in the meantime player should clean the balls more but that is just a thought.

Greg/Diamond wants the best pool experience for the players. They also are putting their money where their mouth is and selling table/equipment and then adding money to events such as the upcoming DCC. They also talk and listen to the pro's if there is an actual problem it will be addressed.

Sean P will be missed at the Derby but the show will go on.

I've not used the Cyclops balls myself, and can't comment on this case in particular, but this is a ridiculous statement.

Using this logic, if Roger Federer turned up to Wimbledon and found that centre court was a muddy bog with markings three feet too wide, he should be expected to play and perform?
