Seriously considering moving to Waco, TX

Thank you sir, I've been through the area 100's of times and it's just about perfect as far as I see. It would take something real special to get me to change my mind as I've pretty well made it up as to where I'm going to move to, but one never really knows for sure until the decision is behind us having already been done.

My momma always told me "where ever you go, there you are".

But if you need to get the hell out of dodge for other reasons then go for it.

People only ***** about the heat until their bones start getting creaky in the cold.

I'll buy your DVD's just to support your endeavors even if I never level another table.

You have picked a good spot I think....One of the better parts about Texas and that area, TONS of good places to eat....I think about every little town down there has it's own BBQ shack and many, many good steakhouses....I believe there was a really good one in Brownwood, Tx which isn't all that far from Abbott...Don't remember any tables there, but the beer was cold and the steaks were fantastic....

For what it's worth, if you are going to have access to a warehouse like that and being right off of I-35, it may be worth your time to see about having tables delivered to your location instead of having to drive to get them from the Diamond factory...Don't know what freight charges are these days, but you might be able to get a bargain using some LTL fright haulers going through that area...

I already have a truck and trailer to pick tables up with and deliver them. The cost of crating then shipping them to my warehouse location would actually exceed the cost of going to pick them up from the factory myself, not only that, they don't all go to TX which means I'd be delivering everywhere in between the factory in Indiana to TX which is a 900 mile stretch not to mention zag zag driving to deliver Diamonds on the way back to Waco.

Oh, and the Quad Cities is better?

Texas is a great place.

You are a fool for saying such things.

From what I've heard from several ppl that have lived there and currently live there, nothing good in Texas, it's a black cloud for pool...
No one could ever imagine the hacked up crap in Texas..

I'm going to bet you'd have a huge burn pile if you set up shop there!

You know what they say about Texas.....

Glen, you can do much better in another state...
If your after warm weather year round, it's good climate but I think you can do better.
WTF made u choose TX??

NO WAY you could educate the hacks in Texas!

I've been to the Quad Cities, and the tables there are pretty screwed up too, big difference between there and TX is the winters, I can still work in TX in the winter with the shop doors open...LOL

I love the Quad Cities. When I used to go to Clinton Corn I would stay at the Jumers Castle Lodge. Great place and a GREAT restaurant.

WOW realkingcobra!

If you are going to pull off that move, then I should start looking for a house with a pool table!
If you are going to move into Waco (or around there), then I should start talking to some of my pool friends about your arrival. This is great!

Its not an if, it's more a matter of when:grin:

Poolhalljunkie, you mentioned that Abilene tx has a cue maker. You were referring to Curtis Roberson. Know him well, and he puts out beautiful cues and plays pro tricks as well. Don't forget jerry powers, Jericho customs, know them both. Back to subject, yes, we can use a mechanic shop in Abilene tx. Diamonds ♦ are nice tables! We're 150 mi. From ft worth, 3 1/5 hrs from austin, 4 hrs to San Antonio etc. Wichita, Lubbock, Midland - Odessa, ! Waco is cool, closer to Houston. Big market, and mostly taken... Anyway, you'll enjoy the state of Texas! There's alot of $$$$ here. Would love to see ya in Abilene. IMHO... Brenner

Please define mostly taken. Are you implying that all the pool tables in the Waco area are are already taken by other table mechanics?

To set up my shop again for working on pool tables, as well as delivering Diamonds pool tables from the factory to TX as well as the surrounding states. Once I'm settled in and set up again, I'm considering setting up a pool table mechanic school for training table mechanics this trade.

So, I was kind of wondering what some of the Pro's and Con's would be should I commit to this move.

If you are looking to move to Texas and want to be centrally located, The Waco area is really a good choice. You can reach the majority of the population in the state within a 3 hour drive. It is also big enough to have most the amenities of the larger cities without the traffic levels that you would have to deal with in Houston, DFW, San Antonio or Austin.

Reakingcobra, was refering to Houston only. Not misrepresenting Waco, Abilene, Austin, and many other cities. When relocated here, we'll all Enjoy your help. In my area, cutie Roberson definitely has the best playing table for cities around. Ive met only two merchant (from dallas) that did what I call great workmanship. Period.

It means we have some pretty damn good mechanics so you might be biting off more than you can chew...

Cheap prices are not the makings of great table mechanics, I've been in most of the pool rooms in TX....so what pool rooms do those guys do, because I didn't see that level of craftsmanship in any of the rooms I've been through:D
