2014 us open unpaid prize money

what a crock of shit - Barry, that is.
yes, it was very informative - if you read between the lines & listen very carefully.... there are so many cliff notes, that it'd be a short story. here are a few, IMO:

- 4 players have not been paid/paid in full; SVB is apparently not 1 of them
- all 4 will be paid before he leaves for DCC
- he can afford to go to DCC
- he had to get a loan to payout
- he lost $30-$40K, but wouldn't state how/why/where
- he needs to hire "honest" employees
- he's had issues @ Q Masters
- the Marriott caused lots of problems
- he never knew of Quan Do's bounced check, till last THU
- he's been using an inhaler 1/day for breathing problems due to stress
- he expects to live another 20-30 years
- he's upset that the previous winners don't wear their US Open jackets onsite
- he's got a BIG name bank to be sponsor & hold funds for next Open, as well as Pepsi in his pocket
- 2015 Open will be @ Sheraton Norfolk
- he's sorry

Mark - the only question you didn't ask, (not that you would have gotten a straight answer) was:

"över the past 90 days, have you & your employees been paid?"

Good summary
-4 players unpaid total $10K
ORCOLLO Dennis 4250
QUAN Do Hoang 3,000
OUSCHAN Albin 1,425
HE Mario 1,425
TOTAL $10,100
And is it a coincidence that all are international players?

-seems WPA sanction for this year is not confirmed and he has to talk with WPA leaders ?
-he could not justify why added money need to be so high when Mark Cantrill made a good point that added money $25K is probably good enough
-he easily out talked Master Talker, Mark Cantrill LOL. It wasn't even close
:D

Even though it's none of my business, I'd still like to hear from SVB's mouth that he's paid in full. Johnnyt

Yes, informative interview. As I say in the interview Barry is the only guy who can give me the 5 in talking too much. However there is a a lot of info in the interview and I ask some tough questions and keep on them as best as I could without being rude. I'm sure I missed some points that you want to hear about but asked about most of the important questions.

He only sounds half drunk-big improvement. But there is no way i can listen to him for more than a minute-obnoxious, arrogant and slimy and what does it matter what he says? His mouth has never been in line with his actions. You might as well listen to a turtle,

PS- How about all that stuttering all of a sudden?-losing his lying skills perhaps?

yea, i caught that, too. i've been thinking it for days & that was before the extra 2 players.

i loved it when Mark told him that just because he "guarantees added money in the bank", doesn't mean it's actually there!

as painful as those 50 minutes were to sift through Barry's stupor - yáll should. Roberta got maybe 18 words in edgewise - and she's the one who holds the key - Barry excels in deflection, under the guise of victim, while beating his chest.

the whole interview wreaks of money issues & poor planning/execution. sounds like: they were understaffed in the office to handle all (so Roberta was overwhelmed); they were understaffed onsite (so Roberta & Barry were overwhelmed); some employees were embezzling; someone didn't read the fine print w/ the Marriott contract; there isn't enough manpower to reconcile the books monthly or @ year-end (hence the conceivable blind-side of embezzlement), nor to eblast 125 players to confirm "äll is square?"; while Barry couldn't spit out a coherent sentence inside of 2 minutes.

the rule is: 1st in, 1st out. but as long as he & his employees got paid in the interim....

fool me how many times

I think I read that in 2013 the prize money was put in escrow where Barry had no access to it, and everyone was paid on time....Obviously, that needs to happen again, or I predict this thread will be duplicated at the end of the next U.S. Open......that is my fearless prediction......my crystal ball tells me so...

embezzlement!! Did he really use that as an excuse?

Roberta- As soon as he runs out of others to blame, it will be your turn.

NO - that's my opinion, based on him throwing around "losing $30-$40K" coupled with "ï need to hire honest employees". (check the interview & give me your feedback)

it's VERY easy to steal from a bar who is mostly cash basis - don't ringup the sales! especially when there's a huge event & everyone's slammed (US Open week). and more specifically when the OWNER/MGR isn't ever present. all you have to do is audit to find the missing $$$$$$ - and the red flags are in his interview.

and yes, Roberta needs to be careful. while he continuously touted her invaluableness & he took all of the blame - he simultaneously said "we didn't....but it was our fault...."

It is ridiculous to pull Roberta into interview- probably he needs someone else to block bullets. While Roberta handles admin/paperwork and may have missed out on identifying those 3 checks clearing (they probably never bother to do bank recon), the non payment is not an admin problem- if it was, the 4 oplayers who were not paid would have been paid immediately and Barry will not have to wait 10 days to clear their payment.
This is simply a financial problem and Barry does not have enough money.

Someone said on Facebook that Shane volunteer that Barry pays all the others before they pay him- If that is true that is very classy of Shane.
Actually if Barry had done that, it may have been better- hold one third of Shane's prizemoney i.e. $10K and use that to pay the 4 players. He will only owe 1 player Shane and not have 4 players unpaid.

:D

I believe he held MORE than 1/3 of SVB's purse. This entire decade and a half the winner has been on a payment plan from what i know.

I really cant listen to him-he makes me sick. He has had pool rooms for 40 years -I doubt a nickel was stolen more than usual. If it was, it was because he wasnt paying attention to the daily receipts. He certainly should know by eye what was taken in daily within 5% That's his business!! The first day it is off- HOLD EVERYTHING!

If Shane got his wish and is getting paid last, Barry added NOTHING to the tournament. Do the math...I can do it in my head. Anyone can run a tournament that way. Johnnyt

I finally just stopped laughing...

I'm so happy you heard it too-at least he must now have some accountability.

Dennis arrived in Los Angeles last night and Barry has promised to wire the money that he still owes him today. We will see.
