CJ and Dr. Dave have both helped my game tremendously just by viewing and reading what they've put on the web for free, and I appreciate what they are doing to promote and attempt to revive the sport. Hopefully soon I can purchase some of their materials if I can ever get caught up.
Jaden; Since you mention the, 'Subconscious,' I'll chime in here with my 50 year experience with this mental phenomenon.
In playing 3 Cushion at a very high level, the components to control ALL 3 Balls a high percentage of the time, can and is very taxing mentally!
I found a mental phenomenon to be absolutely unbelievable to me at it's consistency! The existence in the mind to execute the first thought and mental image that I perceived to actually occur as a result of this subconscious thought!
The problem being, is when it's negative in reality! Example: I would look at a fairly simple shot at the table which would have a VERY small hole and VERY low % of finding! The first thought then, NOT now, was. 'Well, it's a 100 to 1 to find that hole and NOT score the point!' So, me in my most simple thought, was to play to go in the hole! I can't begin to tell you at such a high % of the time I would fine this minute hole and miss the point, when I would put that, NEGATIVE FIRST THOUGHT in my mind! Still knowing, the odds of this occurrence were tremendously in MY favour! Believe me it took some years for me to accept this as a fact, because of it constantly happening!
Obviously, for the last 25 years, I've put MUCH stock in the theory about, 'Be careful about one's first thought when stepping up to a shot!' Don't get me wrong, now & then, I still try to test the waters of this phenomenon, in my case it still holds true!
I guess in my case, there's a silver lining to what I've learned from this. 'When I hit a shot, The CB goes EXACTLLY where I intended!' Meaning my stroke is straight!
I agree. Both C.J. and Dr. Dave are artists in what they do. They "live" in their abilities and generously share with those who can be helped and might not otherwise be made aware of other possibilities. They pay attention to what is happening around them on the pool table and make evaluations based on their direct contact with intense focus. They are not as connected to pre-conceived notions as many of us might be. They understand that it is immensely more satisfying to help another person than to beat him down.
To who the homeless ,, Dr Dave has a pleather of videos on YouTube ,, let's also remember his info is backed up by physics which oh by the way he's a expert in
However he's not promoting a way to play as the holy grail as CJ does ya he will say it may not be for you , but he will then say it's because you subconsciously don't want to get better ,,

When discussing the mental game (and I've only recently within the last two years truly understood this myself) the thing I've been telling everyone is don't EVER think about NOT doing something.
Don't ever think about a negative.
The subconscious doesn't understand a negative. It only knows what you're focusing on.
They did a study in the 90's with high school basketball players, that were not regular players.
One group did nothing but practice shooting free throws for 2 hours a day.
The other group were not allowed to shoot a single free throw, but instead visualized shooting them and making them.
The second group out performed the first in the actual physical test, by like 45%.
Visualization and the subconscious is a truly powerful thing.
It's absolutely amazing how many times you will think, ok just don't scratch here, and BAM! it doesn't matter how difficult and unlikely it is to scratch, you WILL...
So, yes, absolutely ONLY think about exactly what you want to do and never about what you want to NOT do.

By the way, what CJ does on the table is 'science' too. He's trying to help others do at least a bit of what he does & who knows how far one can take it after that.
There are those that are overly positive & overlook reality. I'm not one of those.
Then there are those that are overly negative & only see the down side of things & never see the reality of the good. I'm not one of those.
I'm a realistic romantic or a romantic realist.
That way I can have the best of both worlds. Well...maybe not the best of both but at least some of both.

I injured my elbow way back when & could not play golf for nearly a year but I was thinking about it 'all' of the time.
When I came back & could play I took about 8 strokes off my average score.
There was no negative feedback from any of the shots or swings I was thinking about.

I learned from one of Tony's teachers, Richard Bandler, who developed a system called NLP which is a model for communication and subconscious training.
My best friend in high school wrote the book 'Be the Person You Want to Be' which was a top 10 best seller. He indecently just sold an internet company last year for over $30,000,000. We both went through years of training with some of the leading authorities at the time. Some in Dallas, Colorado, Florida and Hawaii (Tad James).
I ask him what his motivation was to work so hard and he said "well, I wrote the book and didn't want to seem like a hypocrite, so I focused everything on making money for a few years," - well done, now it's paid off and he can retire comfortably at a very early age. I always knew he would make it big, he was the one that got me interested in NLP in the first place....and it's done wonders for me as well.
