I began typing a brief report on the 1p at DCC but it was quickly starting to become a novella so for the sake of my sanity, I'll simply say this.

Mike stepped up in a field of over 310 in the 1p division and made it all the way through to the final without a loss.

Alex was playing absolutely stellar and double dipped Mike to claim the 1p Championship Crown.

Congrats to Alex, what a treat it was to see his immense talent on full display.

And an equally BIG Congrats to Mike for taking 2nd place in a division that is def not his specialty.

Both guys were very impressive, indeed! :thumbup:

Great play by Alex, and a tremendous run by Mike undefeated to the finals. Congrats to both.

I agree. Great showing by Mike. Not sure why he gets so much crap from people. Me and some buddies ran into him at the Derby by the cafe outside the tournament room one day and he was really cool. My friend had his The Pearl shirt on from Fast N Loose Designs that had Earl's head shot on it. He said "Mike, when do I get to buy a shirt with your face on it?" Instantly Mike replied "They can't make one. My head's too big and won't fit on it." We all cracked up. I'm a fan of anyone that has a quick wit and can laugh at themselves. Also, it probably didn't hurt that he was doing well in AmRo and the Banks at the time, and he's having a great tournament overall.
 
How did Mike and Alex finish in the banks? Both are probably favorites for masters of the table now?

Efren got into the semis in the banks, and top 8 in 1p?

I was surprised to see MD do so well in the 1 pckt as I don't think I've ever heard his name and 1 pckt mentioned in the same sentence . Great showing by Mike

I wouldn't have blamed him for going off when that ball skid on him. He handled it better than I would have, probably.

I was stunned by his performance. I know he doesn't like the game, so I was surprised to see him even in it. Then to march all the way through that field of heavy players and arrive undefeated at the finals? Holy cow!

He did well, even according to the commentators. Alex was basically unstoppable, but MD still had him on the ropes enough that I'm sure Alex won't forget who he played for the win. I sure hope Mike adds this wonderful game to his repertoire. He is an amazing talent who is just starting to show us what he can really do.

Yeah, that was just about the most vicious skid I've ever seen. I'm glad they played that one back in instant replay. It was just plain weird the angle that ball took off on, and he was spot on to make it based on the contact. That would have taken the wind out of my sails for sure.

The ball definitely skidded on him, but when you looked at the slomo replay it appears that he undercut the ball a little.

God .....Alex played great though!!!
 
Mike is out of the 9-ball, getting illuminated by Skyler. Mike was up 4-1 or so and Sky hit him with a BR package as well as a back breaking couple of games that he flukes in a ball and ended up in a 9-ball on combo. Skyler's next miss ended up in a fluke safety. Tough to fade that.

I think the way these diamonds are set up meaning ultra fast with fairly easy pockets the game of one pocket has become one dimensional. I believe with tougher equipment the outcomes would be different. But with so many 8 and outs you rarely see the moving side of the game.
 
I wonder how Mike Dechaine will do in the Mosconi this year.....
.....I hear the selection is going back to merit-based.
