Video evidence that Cyclop is garbage

Drop ball onto cushion first

You can minimize if not eliminate spin by dropping the cue ball onto the top of the cushion and then watching it roll. A friend who worked for a Korean owned room told me the Korean installers used this technique. You can also buy a ramp. I believe it is made by Billiards Direct, Newport News, Va 23601. I can't find mine right now, but the cushion height gauge I have was made by them. CRS syndrome prevents the name of the seller from popping up at this time, but I'll work at it.

my 1st thought is...wtf you doing smoking at the table. i am a smoker but never at the table.

your type of test did not prove any thing to me. i agree with others that you should have useda cue.

No dog in this fight...

The hand/cue is a variable, regardless of how equally someone thinks they're dropping/shooting the ball.

A stimpmeter or, as suggested earlier, even a Matchbox track/ramp eliminates one variable.

Then you'd get more accurate results.

If you use a cue, you could hit it with a little English and not realize it, by dropping it minimizes the spin, plus if it would catch spin it probably be in the first couple of feet, which would certainly be noticeable.

FWIW, I like the Cyclop Balls and rotate between them, Amamith Super Pros and Centennials on my home table. I don't use the Cyclop Cue Ball because I prefer the Measle Ball. Below are a couple of tests I did. The first is the Cyclop Cue Ball, the second is the Measle Ball. The ramp was not moved for either test. Guys, there's NOTING wrong with Cyclop Balls.

I've never had issues playing with Cyclop balls...Also, how can u take this test seriously with no evidence of it actually being a cyclop ball, the way they were dropped while having a dart hanging out of your mouth over a diamond table while doing the test... send this thread to the wasteland

I'm not sure how you could impose that much spin to make the ball move 6-8" over a 10' distance by dropping them to the rail the way we did. In my opinion, it would be more suspect using a cue and hitting center ball as there could be much more variance. We went there to match up the other night so unfortunately I did not have a meter or a ramp with me. It was just an extreme difference we noticed between two Cyclop cue balls. I too have played with many Cyclop cue balls and this is the first time I have seen one this bad. I can assure you the cigarette hanging out of the guys mouth had no effect on the test.

Yes, that was Ryans video.

I have tried Cyclop a half dozen times and they play heavy and I like them. Slightly different but good. The reality is that I'm sure their is a couple of bad balls around. Ditto with the Aramith.

The colors well I'm a bit of a purist and now I know the difference between the 5 & 6. It's not a problem. If I was in the market for a box of balls I would by the Cyclop...because I have 2 sets Aramith Pros and man need variety.

I have gotten used to my set of Cyclop balls and they play fine. I also have Super pros and Centennials. Cyclop balls do play different and that's ok, we will be seeing them more and more so we need to adjust to how these new balls play.

Cyclop balls stay cleaner then the others and I like that. They do seem to be stickier to them selves a bit more, in other words they seem to have a slightly softer surface and therefore have a different sound. This is only my opinion but thin cuts with these balls take more concentration from me.

Back to the video that was posted originally....There is something wrong with that ball, even spin would not make a ball act like that at slow speeds.

Thank You!!!

But, would you mind simulating the video? You placed the logo in the "CENTER" not on the "FAR" right or left as indicated in the video!!! I really believe the logo makes a raised bump that I can "FEEL" on the ball! Yes, I own one! The raised small spot on the cue ball "Must" either make the ball roundness an issue or the weight distribution uneven!

No difference.

So are they refunding money for the bad sets or just exchanging them or neither? Johnnyt

I'm with this guy. I have super pros and cyclop sets. I prefer the cyclop, as they feel far more solid.

That said, I haven't used the super pros since I got the cyclops. I am going back to the aramith's for a while, see if it is just new shoes syndrome.

+1 agreed...i have the regular color cyclops and the TV set and like them both fine.

Don't even use a cue, build a ramp and roll it down, same as they do when testing table speed. I bet one of those hotwheels racetrack parts would be great for this.

If you don't have a ramp handy, do this: Line up four balls along a cue stick, all frozen, in a straight line. Put the ball you're studying in the front, also frozen. Remove cue stick. Take another ball and shoot it straight into the back of the line of balls, which gives a no english, straight hit on the front ball. Watch what happens.

That said, there's something funny about the ball in the first video, period. Sounds like it's not a general problem with Cyclops balls though.
