Jerry Briesath & Conrad Burkman should be in the BCA HOF

These two guys have done more for pool over the last 40 years than about anyone I can think of without the recognition they deserve. They may not be as glamorous as some of the recent inductees but just take a look at their rock solid contribution to pool over that time!

Conrad published the National Billiard News, which carried pool info to several generations of players, fans and pool businesses over many years -- including through some real dry spells for pool. He also helped with numerous tournaments for years.

Jerry Briesath is the grandfather of pool instruction not just here, but his influence can be seen all over the world, and he has been leading the way for at least 40 years!

Please give these guys the consideration they deserve -- they are definitely not getting any younger either!!
 
I agree, particularly with respect to Jerry. He brought teaching to a new level and spread goodwill for pool around the world. He's not getting any younger so the sooner the better!
 
what's the criteria for entry? nominees? process breakdown

from the website it looks like they've honoured only 15 people ever in the non player category

Conrad I believe took it over from Earl Newby who started the National Billiard news. The original NBN was something to read. Misspellings, stories continued on another page but nothing there.

I think he did that whole paper in one draft, no proof reading for Earl. I even remember where it was addressed, 11th and Chestnut. It may have been printed in a pool room that I think was there.
 
Jerry has my vote except I don't have a vote.

Jerry has done more for the formation of pool instruction more than any other instructor.

It's a damn shame he is not in the HOF right now!

I am not familiar with the other gentleman but Jerry should of been in years ago.

I have to agree. As far as content goes. He offers more content per price point than anyone I have ever seen. That in itself makes his material outstanding. Nowhere else does a player get such a deal.
 
I agree about Jerry Briesath and Conrad Burkman.

My first BCA tradeshow was in '89....and I made a point of signing up
for Jerry's business seminar...it was well worth it.

And I subscribed to NBN for years.

I completely agree about Jerry Briesath deserving to be in the BCA HOF. He is the reason I teach pool, and it's the same for many, many instructors out there. He singlehandedly led the way to create a professional instruction program, and was responsible for teaching thousands of young players over decades, before the BCA Certified Instructor program came about.

Conrad was amazing with the NBN. I had a lifetime subscription that followed me, in my moves around the country for decades, until it finally gave up the ghost! I still have boxes of old issues.

I attended one of Jerry's clinics at Grumpy' Bar in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I believe it was in '73 or '74. He already had a reputation as a great instructor. The clinic was set up by Lenny Jaszewski, who was a close friend of Jerry's and later became a BCA Master Instructor himself. Lenny and I played for Grumpy's, one of the first "powerhouse" teams out of La Crosse.

I remember Jerry saying, "If you want to play like a pro, look like a pro", and he meant in your style, delivery and demeanor. His stroke was like silk.
 
I could not agree more. Both gentlemen deserve the honor. Conrad Burkman was a referee for many years before taking over the NBN's and he covered everything from Mosconi and Greenleaf to Earl and Johnny. As many have said, Jerry needs no introduction.

Like everyone else, I totally agree.

I believe Conrad ran the NBN for 20-25 years. That's a long time and the old issues (I have every one) is probably the best documentation of the history of the game.

Jerry is the father of instruction - I hard about him in mid 1970's - that is like 40 years ago!

I will support them.

Six Degrees of Jerry Briesath

I assumed Jerry Briesath was in the HOF already!
For more than 4 decades he has attended amateur and pro events throughout the USA, always happy to help players.

I cannot think of 1 accomplished player that I personally know who has not in some way been helped by Jerry.

I hope others that have benefitted from either of these two gentlemen's work post here to keep this thread active.
 
I'm just curious are there any publishers or instructors now in the Hall?

Nevermind. There is a separate Meritorious Division that I was not thinking about.

My business partner took lessons from Jerry at Cuenique in Madison when he was a teen, as well as, several of the strong players around my age group that I know. Jerry is responsible for not only his accomplishments but his influence on so many others accomplishments, his presence will never be duplicated. IMHO

I think there are at least six members of AZ that are voting members for the BCA HoF, FWIW.

The current process for Meritorious Service is that in the normal course, every other year, the voting members can induct a person for Meritorious Service. The other years is meant for Veterans Category. So this year, it's Meritorious time.

Any voter can nominate any person for Meritorious. The person nominating puts together some bio write up for justification. One nominee is chosen and approved by the HoF voters.

Afternoon bump. I think there are enough people who really want this to happen to warrant a bump for the afternoon crowd.
