WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

I thought we were due to have dinner one day

Oh, please, stop with the Beavis and Butthead schtick. Would you prefer I say, "Of all the silly things I've read you write"? Fine, I'll take that into consideration next time if that will get you to respond to the actual point of the post, K?

Sure, there are many voices in my head, but they are all mine. We all get along great together in here as long as I stay on my meds. Is that what you mean when you say... er, write things like, "We are of the opinion that..."? We all thought you were just using the Royal "we" in those instances - speaking for yourself and for all of pooldom - but maybe there is something more sinister behind all that "we" stuff. I can recommend a good psychiatrist in Dallas if you need one.

BTW I was agreeing with you if you bothered to actually read the rest of my post. :)

I was only joking.....and the rest of your post was read - relax, there's no perceived threat to any of your basic instincts. I thought we were due to have dinner one day. :)

your depth of questioning will evolve exponentially. 'the GAME is the teacher'

I've been watching many pro 14.1 matches on you tube lately. I may be wrong, but although these guys are highly skilled in strategy and position play, It seems (sometimes) they're making high runs without getting in any jams that would require them to display their skill in strategy, position play, etc. (Sometimes) it seems like it's all about not missing makable shots.

Pool at the highest levels is calculating odds, percentages and margin of error. These odds and calculations are directly related to the players skill level and knowledge of levels of the game that one must be willing to believe are there.....and then seek to find them.

The deeper your understanding of this game, the more you'll see how much there is to learn....and your depth of questioning will evolve exponentially. 'the GAME is the teacher'

Sorry, sometimes it's hard to tell with you. I'm having a crummy day for a lot of reasons, shouldn't be taking it out on anybody. Sure, steak dinner is still on... when you come up to Turning Stone in August. ;)

Seriously, you should get up to that one. Zuglan puts on a classy and very well-run tournament. Usually a very tough field at the top, but you have a good chance of cashing, maybe even take down the whole thing if somebody pushes Shaw down the escalator and he breaks his arm. Man, that kid is scary.

the US OPEN 9 Ball in Virginia is one I may attend though, it's in an "A Class"

I thought Jason was going to dedicate himself to the Chinese 8 Ball game? I've got a good chance against him, just takes some good breaks and a good break. ;) It's just tough to go to these isolated tournaments, without the chance to play the following week. Without a pro tour I doubt if I'll be playing too many of these type events......the US OPEN 9 Ball in Virginia is one I may attend though, it's in a class of tournaments that I'd like to win.

Well, we'd all like you to win that one. That would be an amazing cap to your career, especially at your age and against a large field of young monsters and seasoned warriors.

I appreciate that, even though it may be difficult to imagine that "we'd all like you to win that one".....I have a feeling there would be some of my "fans" that would rather I didn't.

I can see the headlines "CJ USES TOI TO DOMINATE THIS YEAR'S US OPEN" ......hmmm, it does have a nice ring to it. :groucho:

I'm not a fan, but I would still root for you to do well.

But I think we all know the likelihood of you even entering ;)

Hey, CJ will be just 51 for this year's US Open. Hall won it at 53. Lebron won it at 54. And CJ appears to be in much better shape physically than either of those guys was.

Come on, CJ. Instead of winning a zillion two-bit tournaments in Dallas / Fort Worth, how about getting into some pro competition. You're a pro, right? You're only 50. You've been playing a lot for quite a while now after your years off (competitively). You're ready. The finances of it are not all that important. It's the competition, the quest to be the best you can be, the glory of it all! Get out of Dallas. Show the world you can be a better tournament player than you ever were!

[Does he need a gentle prod?;)]

I'll root for you. I'll even loan you your stick back to win it with! This stick is a WINNER!

Aloha.

You didn't appear to have read my post that I was referring to. Going to these isolated "pro events" (the US OPEN allows anyone to play and has over 200 entries) is challenging because there's no actual pro schedule.

Calling the tournaments I play in "two bit tournaments" is disrespectful to a lot of promoters, they are in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Shreveport, Austin, Tyler, McAllen, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Arlington, Hurst, Denton, Lewisville, etc (these are ones from 2014-2015. I know you're trying to make a childish point, however, please don't bring innocent people in Texas into your desire to slander me and my accomplishments.

Who knows, the stars may align in such a way that I can play

I hope you enter and wish you the best of luck.

Thanks, the US OPEN was the first tournament I played after taking 7 years off and finished 9th/12th. The most challenging thing is to play well 5 days in a row. I did it for 4, then had an off day on the 5th and actually lost to players that were slightly under the previous ones.

Only time will tell, my business obligations make it tough to leave town for more than a few days at a time. Who knows, the stars may align in such a way that I can play...or not.

Ignore the mean-spiritedness of a few...most of us would love to see you compete! Win or lose, you are still a champion!

CJ,

I think you may have been a little quick on the draw, here with At Large. I actually thought he was trying to flatter your abilities and get your competitive juices flowing. Maybe his choice of words touched a nerve about "two bit tournaments", but I think he was joking more about that than anything.

I realize it's hard to be you on this forum with all the nipping at your heels. I don't blame you for having a lower pain threshold some days more than others. I, myself, have taken a lot of heat from your naysayers, too. I'm just saying, he meant well and that's all, IMO.

ICBW, but he's a straight shooter when he posts, unlike the other members in your "fan" club.

That being said, if I played at your speed, I'd quit my day job and play in every tournament including the Open with no reserve. I'm sure almost every member on this forum would, too.

Best,
Mike

You read my post correctly, Mike (thank you); guess he didn't. I'm actually one who thinks he could still be a force in the big events.

At this particular moment I'm inclined to not play this year.

I support the tournaments in Texas because they are ran by quality people that are also friends of mine. Barry B. has a top notch event and the US OPEN is a tournament I've played in many times. At this particular moment I'm inclined to not play this year.

the "weapon of choice"..... it's won it's weight in gold.

I'm glad you like it, I have a feeling my trusty Bludworth will be the "weapon of choice"..... it's won it's weight in gold.

Really? In the picture below is the average earnings for the top 25 players over a period of 11 years. During this same period of time (excluding 2000) I was an OTR truck driver. My net income was more than Bustamonte's, making me number 3 on this list in earnings. I also wonder what percentage of THEIR income is lost to entry fees, motel rooms, and meals on the road? You might think that these expenses would be offset by endorsements...but, you would be wrong. Endorsements are very limited. How many pool cues, pool tables, and billiard attire have YOU bought in the last 10 years? How many pay per view events have YOU purchased? Even CJ admits to having used the same cue for over 20 years. FYI, the pro golfer changes his equipment about every 3 months and uses 5-15 $4 golf balls in every round! Not to mention their wardrobe, which could be the most expensive item of all!
I bet very few, if any, would make the sacrifices in time spent with your family, living in motel rooms, earning substandard pay...to play in a dying sport. Playing in local tournaments (or as someone called them 2-bit) is what most pro players (in level of skill) do, because it is all they are willing to sacrifice!
