Finnegan is a crook and a scumbag.

Finnegan took Rafael out back and told him he was going to con the guy with new garbage rules.

The locals would not cheer if "no money balls went". Total justification after the fact. Absolute trash here.

So the premise of the OP poster has already been disputed by a reputable source (mikeyfrost) on here. I assume you agree with that portion that the OP didn't tell the true story. But you and another poster are gonna believe that the crowd cheered. I'm in bewilderment how you can make that transgression. And even if the crowd cheered, maybe they cheered cause a non money ball went in and the pot would be bigger next week for them to have a shot at it themselves.

Fine. I will presume all of the above points are in dispute, and apologize for the transgression of entertaining thrm.

WHY WOULD FINN TAKE HIS MONEY AND NOT LET HIM PLAY?

That's the part that is total bull here, no matter how it is sliced.

An absolute oops that deserves all if the bad press that it gets.

The rest will probably never be cleared up.

I agree Mike frost is a tip-top reference, but he cannot be fairly called an unbiased party here. The whole thread stinks no matter what now.

Either way, my sticking point is accepting money for a raffle ticket and then saying you're not eligible for redeeming it.

either way? I dont think you understood Mikey's post. He was eligible-He picked a player to break who didnt make a 1-10 ball. Assuming Mikey is telling the truth, it went the way it as supposed to.

Anyone can buy tickets, but you need to be in the tournament in order to do the break and run attempt. The OP picked a player in the tournament to play for him.

I haven't had this much fun reading an AZ post in quite a while. Cheers to AZ.

Mikey had a great post and none since has really moved the ball forward. I'm waiting for the OP to wake from his 'night shift' slumber and tell us his side. I have not had this much anticipation since I stayed up all night at the Paris Las Vegas bar in 2000 waiting to see whether Bush or Gore had won! ;*)

I still would like to hear what really happened by a neutral party. It makes no sense that the shooter continued to run 1 through 10 on an illegal break, especially with this much money at stake.

I don't see a statement that the shooter ran any balls. As I read it, he made a ball that was "not a money ball" and that was it. See the part in red.

I think you're misreading the part in blue. All the OP is saying is that each ball was worth $180, not how many were made. Trusting Mikey's account, which makes sense to me, just one ball was made and it was not a 1-10 ball, and so Raph didn't shoot further. The OP is just lamenting that Raph didn't get to keep shooting because, if he had (but he didn't), he might have made some balls, which were worth $180 each. At least, that's how I read it.

I took my wife to New York for our anniversary. We visited Steinway while we were there. I bought 20 tickets for the 10 ball break and run - it was up to over $1,800.00 that night. I couldn't be the shooter because I didn't play in that night's tournament. So I picked Raphael Debreao to shoot for me and told him that he was getting a healthy chunk of whatever we made. I was asked by several bystanders where I was from. I let them know I was from Maine. At that point Finnegan asked Raphael to go into the back room to talk. When they returned, Raphael broke and made a ball. Everyone was cheering. Finnegan walks up to me and said, "Sorry pal - he didn't make a money ball". I told him that this is the first time I ever heard anything about a money ball on a ten ball break and run. Especially when I was told that each ball made was worth over $180.00. He told me that it was the rules of the house - better luck next time. So that's how he treats visitors. That's the star of the new reality show for you - a lying, thieving P.R.I.C.K.

As for the cheering, I ran a break pot, too. In my experience, people cheer for the pot carrying over to the next week, not for the pot getting smaller.

That sounds like a hoot, especially if you sat there through the court hearings.
You guys really know how to party, I would get into trouble hanging out there, way too wild for me.
Like they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas

I agree that I cant be considered unbiased or neutral in this situation. I'm great friends with Raph and indirectly this thread makes him look bad. I called him and got the story from him...I talked to Finny as well totally separate. Somehow there stories matched. That's really all I have on this it wasn't more complicated than the break.

I do hope someone that played there during the time of the break and runs comes on and explains them as well.

and why Finny took the shooter behind closed doors before the break?

back

I'm back.

1. He was not allowed to shoot again.
2. No one explained any rules to me when I passed my money directly to Finnegan.
3. After drawing my name - he asked if I played in the tournament and said I didn't look familiar. I told him I wasn't in the tournament and that I dropped by to check the place out because I'm from Maine, and had heard about the place from a friend and watched live streams of events there.
4. Only after that conversation about being from away - and waiting for me to pick a player to shoot for me - he takes that same player out back stating that he wants to talk to him. Coincidence? I think not.
5. It's a TEN BALL break and run. Everyone knows it's harder to make a ball on a rack of ten balls. AND I was told that each ball is worth $180. We all know how a break and run works. If you make a ball - you earn the right to continue to shoot until you miss or foul. Period.
6. Ten balls were racked.
7. They haven't had a break and run since... Coincidence? Again - I don't think so. It probably got some people angry.

I have answered the questions asked. I stand by my statement. This is the last post I am going to make about it. Some trolls are probably going to call me a liar and stir crap. I'm done. The only possibility of me posting again is if someone shows me how to get the Facebook posts off my phone to post here. They are a real testament to his personality. Those of you that asked the questions are answered clearly. Believe it or don't. It's your choice. Thank you to the members that took me at my words and supported me. Others seemed to twist things quite a bit. Now I'm done.

That was the one question I had. Was 15 balls really racked or 10 balls racked? You have answered that question and so I agree with you 100%.That whole thing that we rack 15 balls all the time so you should have known the "House Rules" is complete BS in this case because they were no longer playing the "House Rules" game when they racked the standard 10 Balls for the 10 Ball Break and Run game.

If the guy was good enough to take directions from the director "hey, this guy is an out of towner. Make the eleven ball first not the 7"... Then he is the best pool player in the world I'd think. Wouldn't the fix be a soft break or intentional scratch? I can't think of anything he could have been told in private to fix the outcome of the break to a make this not that situation.

Not questioning the OP's integrity. He has explained his perspective. It was also explained about money ball v non money ball, seems like a misunderstanding more than anything nefarious.

If you read the OP's response, this particular game did NOT have all 15 balls racked like the so called "House Rules" called for. They had 10 Balls racked, thus any ball made would have been a money ball anyway since balls 1-10 were used. He couldn't have made any of the so called non money 11-15 balls since there were never racked and not on the table.
