U.S. Open update

Not to mention the first sign up last year was on July 8th. I'm confident the field will be full.

I find it hard to believe it fills up. I'll bet you $50 it doesn't fill unless they lower the entry fee.

if the additional $128K+/- aren't required to be secured, and last year in JUL the entry was reduced to $750 from $1000, and the last entries were accounted for <2wks prior to Opening, and still players/vendors weren't paid -

- will the person in charge of the money & books disclose this pertinent info to the fans, players, vendors, employees, et al, so that they can make better informed o-o-p decisions?

- if these $128K funds aren't secured, what guarantee do they have of refund against the $75K in escrow? and does it even apply in the Contract with AccuStats?

I'm not sure where the $128k number is coming from pinky. All I know is that Barry is only on the hook for the $75k added money. Obviously he is on the hook for all the other stuff too as far as venue, bleachers and general operating costs. However that's not part of the deal with Accu-Stats from what I gather. So, for right now its the $75k and a couple of people have said that $50k+ has been accounted for. So we shall see.

Based upon your performance as BB spokesmodel last year, when you ran around here with pom-poms and said how wonderful everything was going/going to be, and then disappeared when TSHTF, I'd say you should be issuing the Extra Large Grains of Salt this year.

I was and still am supporting an event I believe in. I do believe, with the right changes that are in place, that it will be a great event. There was no disappearing, it's called needing a break from all the craziness & a chance to catch my breath. But, sorry to disappoint some of you, I'm not going anywhere.

i'd thought originally, that the entire pot would be in escrow to protect the players - but AtLarge said it's only $75K added. so what about the other $1K per player entry? (this is not directed at Pat in any way.)

a smart business person would put a deadline on the entry, to ensure that by JUL 25 (90 days out & 1 year's notice), all monies were accounted for & secured & it's kum-ba-ya for all! pretty simple accountng 101.

and "the money-man" should convey any unscrupulous info that could affect many to the tune of $$$$$$ - specifically Jay. MANY consumers (& players) ate LOTS of $$$$$$ last year (and the year before, and the year before that) because NO ONE said anything, about anything.

this has "red flag" written all over it.

Pink, Pat, is collecting the entries personally.and they can only be paid to Accu-stats/Pat. He can't guarantee how many entrys there are but just collect them. I agree with you and have said before that having a deadline is what needs to happen. However I think that may be the problem too. Players have many reasons to not pay early. Its just the way it is and would drop the total entries. What do I know.?

My comment was that only the 75k had to be in with Pat by the July deadline. Pat is also collecting the entry fees, but they will come in for a long time after the 75k deadline.

well i'll be damned! i'm quoting this job! i don't usually ask WHERE the install is, unless i foresee a conflict of bids. thanks for the info!

Sheraton offers VALET parking @ $24/day + tips at an offsite garage. or, there's a SELF PARKING deck 2 buildings down (called Dominos?) @ $12/day pass ($8/day on weekends). when this fills up, you're on your own, as they'll have the streets blocked off to metered parking - and there's not much of it anyways; you have to feed the meter.

basically, hotel cost just went up $30/day if you have a car, which i find BS, cause i can park for free @ Vegas + valet tips. is this comped in BB's negotiated rates?

We've already raked Barry through the coals. Pat Fleming's integrity has been called into question. Then there were darts thrown at Roberta. Now it's the new venue site at the Sherton. People complained about the previous venue being shoddy, but this new venue isn't good enough, I guess, even though nobody has been to attend a U.S. Open yet.

What else can we find wrong? Next?

I'm not getting a bye to the finals, it's just not right I tell ya :)

My point was that last year you went on about how everything at the Open was going to be great, perfect, the best (not even close); how Barry was going to do everything he promised (really?); that you personally worked on the floor plan and seating (how’d that work out?); that you were BB's personal assistant/bookkeeper (yet until Pinky hounded you it wasn’t until February that you got around to paying four players because things “fell though the cracks”).

So like I said, this year, when you ballyhoo on BB’s behalf, people should be ready to check their sodium intake because your credibility as a spokesmodel tanked last year.

Out of the loudest whining complainers in this thread, I wonder how many of them are planning on playing or attending?
Have you ever gone, or do you just like running things (and people) down on the internet?

What I "like" is to see people tell the truth and accurately represent their operation and not make empty promises. What I don't "like" is to see people try and brush what has happened in years past under the carpet :-)

To be fair, Lou, what kind of "spokes model" would Roberta be if she came on here and promoted the event by saying "gee guys, Barry has effed this up in one way or another for the last several years....I dunno how good it'll be this year,, but won't you come out and support us?"

Of course she has to spin the positive, and deflect the negative. You of all people, given your background, know this to be true.

I don't feel that Roberta was out of line last year, rather I felt she was reasonably restrained in her promotion here on AZB. She was new to working there, of course she wanted to be optimistic it would be better. Jay was back on board, that boded well for operational things....

Why don't we all cut Roberta a little slack here? She's trying to present the positives of an event we all want to succeed, be done well, and pays the players appropriately. If the US Open doesn't have a Roberta in place attempting that, it surely won't help its chances of success.
