Winning One Pocket

It shows you 3 different options starting from the break along with the 3 outcomes and 3 different styles of play from 3 different players and sometimes has a historical story about a high profile tournament/game they played it in. It's the most comprehensive, and possibly only set, of one-pocket instructional books that are so meticulously put together with such a wide base of knowledge. That's probably why...........plus it's a leather-bound book that smells of rich Mahogany!!

What is so great about the Eddie Robin books that they bring hundreds of dollars?

Buy them and find out. I spend a lot of time with Marshall "Tuscaloosa Squirrel" Carpenter at our local pool hall and he, along with several others, put a lot of time into helping with those books. It represents a huge amount of collective knowledge from a time period that's passed.

It's something to have. Eddie Robin has authored Winning One Pocket...As Taught by the Game's Greatest Players, and Shots, Moves, and Strategies.
Great information, but even better as part of your collection.
I talked to Eddie, one night over the phone, and found him to be a very nice man. :)

It is considered by most, to be the bible of 1P.

If you have any experience and/or knowledge of 1P, you will not find a better pair of books.

It is nicely done with a lot of pictures of players. You are not going to become a master one pocket player from the book. I paid like $49.00 for mine from Eddie. I made the mistake of taking it to the pool room because someone wanted to see it. It was immediately stolen. I should have known better. The thing is, when the book came out there was no internet. Most of the pictures that seemed so unique back then you can find on the net and more.

If you are interested in learning one pocket there is a book coming out soon by Tom Wirth, I would suggest that book.

Are they hard to get or out of print making them expensive?

Tom's book "Controlled Aggression" might be (and probably will be) one of the best books on 1pocket ever published. It is a must have. Will be available soon. I'm ordering 2. Don't quote me but they should sell for less than $75. Check out the endorsements....look at his Facebook page.

they are out of print so there are no more being made
you get inside the minds of champions at one pocket
it teaches not only shots but strategies and some systems too
if you are serious about one pocket and can afford the books they are a MUST HAVE

I have a copy of Shots, Moves and Strategies sold to me by a really good friend. Its not something you breeze through. In my opinion the many shots are typical of those types of Position Shots with Similar Solutions and I try to take that approach as all shots are different. For someone who wants to get to a higher level its great but its in how you use it. Its high level instruction and there is so much to learn it would be easy not to be able to find a way to learn it unless you set the shots up and actually experience them. This way you see first hand what you can learn to do and that's awesome. Worth it in every respect. I cant wait to see Tom Wirth's book or buy Winning One Pocket..

Great books! But the price is so high because they are out of print, and still in demand.

I bought mine brand new in the mid 90's for I think $35. This was from my local pool hall's pro shop.

I was under the impression that Eddie still has a bunch of them.

You have had the book for 20 years? I will take 9/7 since I have been only playing pool for half that. :p

I was following these a lot up to about a year or two ago, so unless something new happened since then, this is what I understand the situation to be:

The first book, "Winning One Pocket", is out of print and no one has any new copies anywhere. It sells used on its own for about 200 to 300.

The second book, "Shots, Moves, and Strategies" is also out of print. But, Eddie Robbin has cases of them stored away from the original printing in the 90's. He routinely sells this book brand new (old stock) on eBay, under his own name, for about 100.

I spoke to him for an hour once after buying one of his "last books". The man is passionate about the sport and very knowledgable.

There out of print so the price is ....fair....at 300ish for a good one.
It is a book that not only shows multiple (pro choice) options for a given situation but i think its best as a "mind expander"....get you thinking like a one pocket player.
As a bonus you get some entertaining stories at the end. I pick it up every few months and "thumb" thru it.
Shots, moves and strategies ...the sister book is the same way....but cheaper.

Im hearing that Tom Wirths new book is a excellent as well.

still....as with any game...nothing beats playing an experienced player to learn the basics and some moves.

Good luck on your journey.

Probably has something to do with the rarity of the book. Not the easiest book to find on the market. What did they sell for when they were originally still in print I wonder?

Good quality+low supply=high price

PS: Almost asked Barnes and Noble to punch it into their computer. Woulda been fun to see the look on the attendant's face if it popped up.
