The team's top players head to New Jersey to compete for a cash prize. Also, Ross surprises Amy.

Ok who's watching?

1. Never knew Jared was that close to the second bomb in Boston. What a story for him to even be playing again.

2. This is some serious pool action. Excellent editing. Excellent atmosphere in that Atlantic city pool hall. Gold crowns galore.

What an episode! C'mon, even the doubters should at least love the hour of constant pool action we just witnessed (minus the dud side story of Amy and Ross).

I was standing up and cheering, fists raised, when Jarred hit that billiard to sink the final 8. What a shot! Great for him and his story.

This show just captured the magic of pool. The nail biting, gripping tension, down to the wire, it's all or nothing moment like that. Can't script it. It just happens.

Outstanding episode. congratulations to the players involved.

Guess we West Coast viewers can go to bed early. We just "watched" the Show 3 hrs. before it airs here.

Spoiler alert.

The gang party buses to Atlantic City and sets up 5 matches, a grand each, race to 9, 9-ball, some play even up, others given weight.

First match: Jennifer steamrollers SomeDood who had No Chance playing her even. Finnnegan sez Jen ought to lead off every future team event, cause she really breaks down her opponent.

Next up, Mike Dechaine giving up the 8 and last two... MD has moments of missed opportunities, but comes out with the win 9-7 against a surprisingly good oppo. If MD would take a shave now and then his big head would be look almost normal. Almost.

Jarrod reveals he was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing, a photo appears showing him standing a few feet away from one of the bombers. He shows hospital pics including shrapnel in his legs, ver serious stuff; others near him that day lost limbs. Later he talks about its affect on his game.

Ross & Amy had crashed the party, but quickly left the poolroom, showed up later at a fancy restaurant in different clothes. Ross pulls one of the worst bonehead boyfriend moves of all time - could only have been scripted by a weird producer it was so bad.

Finnegan is worried, Gary and Gregg are losing, Fin wonders if there is some funny biz going on twixt Gregg and the Jersey Boyz. Gregg's last-gasp hero shot fails to drop, he loses his match, so now the score is 2-2 in matches and it's all tied up.

Jarrod and Andy of Jersey are playing, Jarrod is getting the 8. Jarrod is looking good, ahead in games 4-1. But he loses focus and gets some poor table luck, and in no time at all he is down 8-5.

He's lost his A game, he's a game away from losing the match. If he loses, the gang goes home with 2 wins and 3 losses, a grand down for the night's money action.

So far the program has been all action all the time, no breaks for foolishness except for the short segment of Ross making a fool of himself in front of Amy.

Oh oh, tension time. Jarrod wins a game, he's now only down 8-6, but he's on a roll... now it's 8-7 Jersey, Jarrod has a chance for a comeback.

Andy from Jersey scratches. Jarrod runs out to tie the match at 8-8.

The pressure is on. Andy from Jersey now is the one losing focus.

In the final game, Jarrod gets a long combo for the win, but it's really a low percentage shot and he misses.

But Andy from Jersey fails to run out, and leaves Jarrod a shot - a semi-tough carom off the six to pocket the money ball for the win...

...Jarrod sez he has to forget all the stuff that went before hand, forget playing his opponent, he's just playing himself. He shoots, the ball caroms off the six just right, knocks the eight dead center into the corner pocket, the eight is Jarrod's money ball, so he wins his match, and puts his team ahead for the night.

Very nicely done, tonight's program went by fast fast fast.

It was an enjoyable pool show, the kind that should keep viewers coming back for more.

All the players were well-behaved, both teams. It was like going to the pool hall and rail-birding a few fair matchups, all played in the spirit of modern, good mannered pool.

My guess is the producers provided all the gambling funds, which is why the Jersey team was not grumbling and angry and throwing chairs around after losing a thousand bucks.

For a guy who said in last weeks Episode 8 thread that you are looking forward to the end of the season, I just brought you that much closer I suppose.

Now you don't have to suffer through it.

Or are you a fan of the show now?

I saw it first hand. Jared Clowery was one of New England's most elite years ago. Sadly, his life was turned upside down on that fateful day in Boston when the bombs nearly made a cripple of him. His difficult trip back to playing great pool is an inspiring one and will continue to be for years to come. Mike Dechaine has meant a lot to Jared in the last couple of years, truly a friend in need. It's a great human interest story to be sure.

Time Warner Cable in Los Angeles has two Tru TV channels, one East Coast time and one West Coast time.

Been watching the East Coast version for several episodes...tonight was probably the best episode yet.

Nice to get the background on Jared and wish him continued good rolls, on and off the table.

Absolutely, Stu. This episode highlighted that human interest story so well. From detailing through photos, Jared's tragic injury. Then watching how Mike is supporting him, putting in extra practice time, and later, getting the 8 spot for his friend.

And for it all to come down to that match...Jared goes up 4-1 to down 6-8...it was such a grind. There was more than just a pool game being conquered there. Very inspiring.

Ok who's watching?

I really like this show. Every week it makes me want to go out and play.

I was hoping Finnegan would come in during Ross and Amy's dinner, grab the key off the table, say "I make the matches" and then walk out.

That is a great synopsis! Well done. This was the best episode for sure I thought:D

I think the show has improved overall from the first episode to the most recent one we have seen. Normal I guess as the cast, crew and editors get more comfortable in their respective roles.

This is a clip from the episode that ran tonight for those that didn't see it:

Looks pretty good to me and the more chill atmosphere around the action seems more typical of what I have seen around places with action. Anyone know what room this is?

To me the growth of the show if it is picked up for another season will come from going out to other places and taking on other people that visit Steinway. I am sure there are a pile of players around the country who would be willing to play some of the cast on the show. The list should still be a part of it as well course.

Btw, I thought the box Ross had for Amy was going to be one of those fancy silver chalk cube holders. That would have been funny, and tied into the theme of the show too :D

Reality

The matches were great, you could feel the pressure Gary put on himself, and even watching Mike struggle a bit. How you learn to handle those situations is at the core of pool. They showed the NY guys(not Jen) talking a lot during matches. The " no coaching" even was brought up. If a player initiates his team in conversation it's ok to reply, but they even seemed to shark their own teammates at times. The NJ team seemed very polite but who knows what is really being said. Nice shot Jared, I would've missed it trying not to leave the 6 hanging!

Fan-freaking-tastic hour of gripping television. It's a shame this wasn't somehow the first episode. The ratings would have been higher for the duration no doubt. Jarrod, you are my freaking hero. Those pics gave me so many chills. First of all, that carom on the 8 under that much pressure was freaking epic!

Not all pool players know how much pressure league play can be when you are playing for 4-5 other guys. I've been there when trips or big cash (to us) was on the line and I've completely choked and been the guy getting raised in the air a few times.

To add a large tv audience on top of all that, for extra pressure, My hats off to you bro!

Great show! Lots of really good shots and play. Very talented bunch on this show.

Anyone else notice on his carom the six went in breaking up the 7-9 trouble and giving him a chance had the 8 didn't drop? Great shot
