Is Max Eberle as big as a goof as I now think?

There is a verse that says the Lord sits above the circle of the earth . I think most people who used the stars as navigation could probably surmise that the earth was round . The flat earth people i think actually believe the earth is shaped like a American football. I think the average person in times past probably didn't care , they were trying to stay fed.

That video that I watched that max had linked to with some guy trying to explain this stuff ------- so afterwards he did a Q&A with audience and he had up there " flat earth map - basically a rectangle and someone asked so do you just fall off if you sail past the western most edge of map? I swear I think he explained it as " no, I believe once you past this point you kinda just pop right back up here ( now on the eastern most part of map ) lol not kidding!

That's cool, I'm gonna try that and see what happens.

I agree and think John has it backwards. Most flat earthers are not religious from what I have seen. As far as the Bible, it does make reference to "the four corners of the earth" which while a bit ambiguous some would argue is an inferred statement of the earth being flat coming from the Bible. Others argue it is essentially just a figure of speech.

No, when I was into it with Max I ended up spending far too much time reading FE comments. A LOT of them are absolutely religious absolutists and believe wholeheartedly that when the bible says "four corners of the Earth" that this means literally that the earth is flat.

Max is a member here on AZB and I anxiously anticipate his discussion in this thread. I certainly think me and him might not see eye to eye on things but I am absolutely interested in his take on things and his thinking on these various topics. I think calling him a "goof" was a little harsh. I certainly think many of the topics discussed on here are odd for Max to believe, but I am certainly interested in hearing his take on things and why he sees things that way.

If I ever get a chance to chat with Max about these things in person the first beer (or first bowl of bean sprouts) is on me!

Yes, please do invite Max to partake. I believe it will be most enjoyable for all.

I think his viewpoint is bizarre on some things, but from everything I have seen he looks like he is a really cool guy and that is what really counts at the end of the day.

Bobby told Lucy, "The world ain't round
Drops off sharp at the edge of town
Lucy, you know the world must be flat
'Cos when people leave town, they never come back"

Are you referring to " The Golden Rule " ?

I think he is referring to "The Golden Section", which has numerous interesting properties in math and in the physical world. These properties, however, are not found in everything we look at, do not point to the existence of an individual creator, and most certainly do not help refute the Big Bang Theory.

So...

Max, Earl, and English walk into a bar......

Max says the things that many of us think about. He's a kindred spirit, great player and good guy. His eastern philosophy is refreshing and enjoyable to listen to. Keep on being yourself Max.

I did NOT say anything about the common ratio refuting the Big Bang theory... if anything it sort of supports it.

So far the scientist have been able to find this ratio in everything that they look at it one way shape or form. It is sort of like the common denominator & it is they that say it points to a 'creator'... God.

Because of this, some scientists are now more urgently looking at other potential alternatives to the more generally accepted Big Bang Theory, like the 'strings theory', etc.

So...

Sloppy Pockets, John Barton, Tom Cruse & a monkey walk into a bar...

I mentioned the Golden Rule earlier, what he is quoting is a few limes from an older country song, what I said was another line from same song - no implied meaning just a song.

Do you mean the Fibonacci Sequence?

English walks into a bar, the rest of the bar walks out.....

Corners and flatness

I always wondered why corners were associated with flatness. There are many things that have corners that are not flat.

No John,

That's not exactly it but sort of. One needs to keep in mind that 'Math' is man made. We 'created' it as an aid in understanding & explaining what is real all around & in us.

John Barton walks into a pool room, everyone super clues their ears shut.

John then tries to show them on the table...

They super clue their eyes shut.

John then tries to make them feel it with their hands...

I think I should just stop there.

Best Wishes.

Gosh that internet is a wonderful thing.

Should we pull up all those that argue in the other direction?

One should keep in mind that 'we' can not create anything from nothing, which is what the Big Bang indicates.

Also, as I stated 'Math' is man made to help us understand & explain the world, etc.

Argue your way all the way back to the TIME of the Big Bang.

Then what? Please Explain?

At the risk of sounding like I'm arguing semantics man did not "create" mathematical principles and truths. Those principles and truths existed independent of our discovering them. We did of course label them and choose the specifics of how to express them and perhaps that is what you were referring to with the word "math" as opposed to the underlying principles themselves.

Hey, sorry you got busted.....maybe you should follow the Golden Rule instead.
