The only comment to the above example is that the match was with Warren Kiamco. Warren doesn't give a shit who he plays in any round and no one was looking to play Warren as a cakified draw.
I get why it's a general no-no in tournaments, but with races to 11 double elimination, you have to beat everyone to win, i.e. fade a loooong line-up of monsters in order to walk away with the win. I think players who complain about this stuff have the mentality that they're not winning and this and that prevents them from getting to a money line, etc. It's all non-winning mentalities. If you're playing with the mindset to win the nation's open title, you never give a shit who is facing you at any stage, any round, it doesn't matter... ANY living human being... send'm in.
All this cheating talk and this and that talk about fairness, etc, ... it's really all loser mindsets from the perspective of someone who doesn't think they're going to win an event. Shane never gives a sheeeeeeeeit who he draws in any round. It doesn't matter. Dennis doesn't care. Bustamante doesn't care... none of those guys care --- they just want a body in front of them to put in their mouthpiece and take the salvo.
They are claiming it was a mistake. But how do the 127 other people in the tournament know that? For all they know the tournament director is just trying to hook up his buddy. And for that matter, if exceptions are ever allowed for any reason there is nothing to stop a tourney director from doing just that. He could play favorites with a buddy and cheat by letting him replace somebody else in the tournament and just claim that he was supposed to have been on the list to begin with but just a mistake was made and he was forgotten. If it is allowed at all, even as an exception, then it can be exploited for cheating and playing favorites. And like I said, the other 127 players don't know what the case is and the credibility of the event is undermined because many will suspect cheating or favoritism even if it wasn't the case. To avoid the suspicion of impropriety, which undermines the integrity of the event, and to avoid that it could actually be used for cheating, replacements after the bracket is public cannot be allowed for any reason.
Yeah I'd agree with that. It makes a lot of sense.
I just read Jay's reply to the thread. The way this went down is ridiculous. Jay definitely made the right decision.

This did not originate with player complaints. It originated with Jay's refusal to follow Barry's order to change the brackets to put in a buddy who was giving him a plaque.

The players who cry about it have zero chance of winning this tournament. It's the "alternates" crying. I mean, really. Unless the tournament director is flying in an alien from the planet Vega who never misses ever, ever... Alex doesn't give a shit, Busty doesn't give a shit, Darren doesn't give a shit, Shane could care less, Dennis wouldn't even look-up if he was counting his knot... nobody cares.
Allen is past his prime, but if the year was 1977 when he won the US Open and World 14.1, do you think Hopkins gave a living shit who Barry put into the tournament? If I played like he did that year, I'd want a freight train of players getting dumped-off at the entry desk with a cattle-shoot to funnel everyone in as it's only more moolah for me WHEN I win.
This thread is blown out of control, Jay over-reacted as his rep is beyond repute anyways and we all know Barry is a gooftard even if that didn't happen. Fran's correct, Jay should have stayed because when you take that job, you have to realize you're babysitting a bipolar go-off to begin with. WHY Jay would even WANT that job is beyond me, for sure - he's too good for that.
For a US OPEN, before a first bracket's match is played, it REALLY doesn't matter unless you're playing to be listed on the plaque of alternates, which is...as we all know... in the ladies room.

This whole thing is Barry's fault. Allen had to know what went on to get him in. If Allen is OK with this, it's on him. Jay had no choice but to pack it in, feeling it was very wrong to change the charts. So its cool if one guy enters a tournament...sees the draw and decides to get sick so his buddy can take his spot? Thats not what happened here but its what you are saying wouldnt be a big deal since you got to beat everyone anyway. I guarantee if you offered the option to see the draw before paying the entry a whole lot of people would do it. That among many other reasons is why you dont play with the draw after its done.
Calling people losers because they think its jacked up to screw with the board after its drawn is silly. The open is supposed to be the premiere event in American pool. Just subbing guys in wherever Barry feels like is not how its supposed to work.
Something else you are over looking....even in a 128 man field its the dead money that makes it all possible. But just screw those guys right because they can't win. You are way out of line with this over the top coffee is for closers crap.
What I see is people being supportive of Jay's difficult decision to try to stand up to one of the most destructive figures in pro pool. We don't know every single detail, but we know the basics, and we know Jay and we know Barry. It's pretty easy to know who's decision to support.
You're the only one talking about this in terms of a player's good or bad draw in the tournament.
I think you are wrong, and those players do and would care in many cases depending on who is substituted in etc. But even if it made no difference to the top 10 or 20, what about the other 100 players? You need them and their future support too to be able to have the event next year. You can't be doing things that will look like cheating, nor can you be allowing exceptions that can actually be exploited for cheating.
I think I'm trying to play this down because it really doesn't matter. Should it happen, of course not. Has it happened countless times in the past - of course it has.
In this exact example, player ______ (insert any name here) was going in to play Warren Kiamco who was going to be a favorite over every person on the planet except a very very small handful of guys. Jay knows that. Barry knows that. If Warren didn't care who was put in, why all of the drama?
Now, if Warren was someone like me and I drew a cripple and they put in Warren Kiamco, thank God because I want pictures to take of me playing WARREN and not the cripple, so I can be like Lou Figueroa and post them when I'm in the middle of forum arguments so people think I'm big pimping.
This thread should be titled, "Why on earth did Jay want to subject himself to the Barry circus to begin with" --- that's what has my head scratching. WHO KNOWS if the players will get paid still... escrow or not. You just never know with this. For all you know Lamar Odom and Chloe will walk in, necking in the back with the tv cameras in follow, taping Lamar pulling a knot out and asking the room to play. I mean, you just never know with this shit show what will happen.

The drama is because the TD of the biggest event of the year walked out under protest. Because Barry gonna Barry. Take all the player names out of it because they dont matter one bit. I know that sometimes the draw is played with after it happens in events and its wrong as shit no matter how the promoter tries to spin it. Its almost ALWAYS done as a way to cover a promoters screw up in the first place.
I'm lost because if they're all in a tournament to donate, why would it matter?
