New Diamond Smart table hanging up balls - Need help/advice

Hi all,

I received new Diamond Smart tables in at my place a few weeks ago, and one of the tables just keeps hanging up balls.

I also saw this exact same thing at the TAP Nationals in Nashville last week, happening to several of the 7ft Diamond tables there.

I've attached pics of the exact spot inside the table where they keep getting stuck (from breaking end, left side near side pocket).

Amy table mechanics out there have any fixes or suggestions for me to try?

I've seen this issue discussed here before. I'm sorry I don't have the link but if you do some digging around there is a (or several) thread on the subject.

This is a common spot for balls to get hung up. Usually its from dirt or debris. Your unit looks pretty clean though. As a preventive measure, I will take a shop vacuum and with the attachment on the blower side I stick in all the pockets, I use the small hose attachment (I think its 1.5"). I do this with all the pockets every two months. I think it might be something else since your table looks clean. The second thing I would do is open the small door and remove the ball separator, once the ball separator is out of the way I would stick my hand in there and feel for something. If that still doesn't work you will need to remove the slate and see whats going on.
 
99% of the time there's quarter laying right there where you can't see it, but it sticks out just enough so that the bottom of the ball can't roll around it. There's an inspection door straight across from there that you can take off from inside the table by going up through a leg door in the bottom of the table, then you can reach in and remove the quarter.

Hi,
I know the little square door you are referring to. It was actually not attached at all, and I had a ball every now and then 'disappearing'. I figured out that the missing ball would end up in the cubby that the tables legs were stored in upon delivery. .

So I will see if I can see or feel an obstruction of some sort behind that little curved wooden triangle that I assume is to guide the balls into the drop hole..

I was hoping I'd hear a reply from you Glenn, thanks..

Ok, I got into the table this morning, via the access panel you mentioned. I was surprised at how much I could actually reach with my hand inside there, but there want a quarter or anything in there. I wiped any and all dust out as well.

No good though, first ball I put down the hole, it got hung up...:mad:

Any other suggestions I might be able to try?

Some of our tables were doing the exact thing, I found a penny in one of them that was causing the problem. In another table I did not find any obstructions, but I cleaned inside of the table real well and have not had a problem since. Please pass on any other suggestions you know.
 
Same issue with my 9' Pro Am

I know what the problem feel like, had the same thing with my 9' Pro Am day two of delivery, all is good now, thanks to Brian @ Diamond. The return system is covered with a rubber, I think is spayed or poured, but not sure. On mine, balls were hanging more towards the center of the box, and after an inspection from Diamond guys at home, it was determined that the coat of rubber was not even at that spot, balls were stopping at that stop, even looking from the end of the table, you couldn't see obstruction or anything wrong. They scheduled another visit after that and brought a new return system, all is golden now, thanks Brian!

Sounds very similar to the issues I'm having... It's almost like there is a 'lip' right at the edge of the rubber, just before the balls are to drop into the hole..
 
diamond seems to be the best out there right now. but little quality control things can get around and hurt them in the long term. since it is something that happens occasionally that is one thing that should be on the inspection list before a table leaves the company.

look how olhausen went downhill from their balls spitting out of the pockets and they refused to change it for some reason, for awhile they were being used in tournaments and good home players bought them. then they lost all that business. stupid on their part. i understand now they have fixed it but the bad rep will follow for years to come.

I'll tell you all something about Diamond, they are always on the hunt to improve and perfect their pool tables, so credit needs and should be given where credit is due. The warning of what may come has no merit to a company that is always seeking to improve their products.
 
the merit was in the first sentence. the warning is for their future. like i said look what happened to olhausen. no company is immune.

Then you might as well throw Brunswick in with Olhausen as far as that goes, but Diamond is a different kind of pool table manufacturer I can assure you of that, and any table manufacturer that fails to improve their pool tables in the commercial industry just fuels Diamond even more...because they ARE always looking to improve, like I said....no warnings needed.
