Corey and Celtic, there are a few people in NYC who will put up cash for me to play money games. However, they are not interested in sending me to major tournaments. I hope that’s not hard to comprehend.

I find it bad taste that you facetiously congratulate me when I’ve lost a match by saying “Good Shooting” on multiple occasions. I don’t need to attack your character because that is not my thing, but others before have spoken about you including Danny Harriman. However, I refused to expend any more energy responding to your nonsense.

To all critics, I am disappointed in the way that some of you have acted. I understand that pursing pool professionally is a very difficult endeavor. However, if something is difficult, does that mean you don’t try? Or give up before you give yourself a real chance? Should you settle for mediocrity because others have told you to? Or should you settle because many people have told you to? Many of the great feats in this world would have never been achieved if people gave up. Albert Einstein wasn’t able to speak until he was 4 years old and his teachers said he would “never amount to much.” Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper for “lacking imagination” and “having no original ideas.” Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, yet he became arguably the greatest basketball player ever. These people did not become great by agreeing with their critics.

I wanted to be a great player ever since I started playing pool over 12 years ago. Actually, I wanted to be a top player. But, because of the negative attitude of most people in the pool world, I kept this goal to myself, and did not share it with others. I was told many times that I would never become a good player. I used this negativity to fuel me and become one of the stronger players in NY. But you know what? My goal is still to become a top player, it is no longer a secret, and I am not going to be ashamed of it. Whether or not I receive sufficient sponsorship to attend the Derby City Classic, I am still going to work hard to improve myself and strive to breakthrough to the next level. I understand that it is extremely difficult and the rewards are sparse. However, this is my decision and not anyone else’s. I will be the only person to determine what I am capable and not capable of.

I want to quote Theodore Roosevelt: “The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best, knows in the end of the triumph of high achievement; and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither.”

If I fail, it’s okay. Because I tried my best, and that’s all I could do. To me it’s much better than thinking back and wondering whether or not I could have if only I had gave it my all. I still have a lot of passion for this game. I quit my job in August because I felt it was compromising my level of play. If I could afford to, I would not go on the internet and ask for help. However, the Derby is very expensive and I don’t have the funds to get there. I need the competition and I need to be around great players constantly. There are many players who get sponsored, why is there a fuss?



i sure dont want to discourage you from pursuing your dreams -- but see the bold section in red ... WHY?

you can still pursue your dream with a job or school and still build a future for yourself... when only the top 5 players in America can make a living you deff want some backup plan!

You are begging for money Mike. You are not working hard at attempting to be a pro, you are begging for money that "other" people worked hard to earn so you can jump on a plane and go stay in a hotel and shoot pool and have fun.

There are hundreds of people on AZB that would love to have an all expenses paid free trip to the Derby, you are simply the only person on here that has the audacity to actually beg the community for it.

So you had a job which brought with it, the means to pay for things.

But you QUIT the job so that you could play well enough to compete in an event that you can no longer afford because... you quit your job.

You may be a decent player, but you're a moron for:

1) Quitting your job to play pool;
2) Asking people to give you money AND telling them that you need money because you quit your job to play pool.

Best of luck to you but in all honesty, I hope to hell NO ONE gives you a dime. Grow up Mike.

Oh. And get a job.
 
I was eagerly calling on multiple occasions to offer my full sponsorship but
it kept going to voicemail and telling me I had the Wong Number.

Oh well, I have since reconsidered and hereby withdraw my offer.

Why do you leave the chalk at the same end of the rail when you play? Why not take it with you and chalk as you walk using your left hand, like Efren. It might speed things up at least a minute a rack not having to walk back and forth. That's 11 minutes in a race to 11, a significant reduction of the valuable but very boring time of people who watch your matches.

Also, was just watching your match with Shaw. I noticed you have a jump-break. When you were preparing for a jump, why not just take off the lower section of the butt in one go, instead of one section --> test stroke --> take off another section --> test stroke --> then test stroke some more. It just got a bit frustrating to watch because I think those are wasted motion & time for both you, your opponent, and the spectator.

I think you shoot fine. Needs to improve safety play. But would be a lot more entertaining to watch (& easier to fund) if you could some how cut down the unnecessary PSRs.
 
Hey guys... I don't want to derail Mike's thread or anything, but I've been doing a lot of soul searching the last few days and the reality is this:

A few years or so ago, my wife and I went shopping for some new furniture. When we bought the couch for our living room (and love seat; and a 'chair and a half') I had one request only... it can look like it was made in the 70s for all I care, but it needed to be the most comfortable piece of furniture ever.

Weeks of shopping paid off and we found the most comfortable couch mankind has ever known. And I sat on it, lounged on it, laid on it, etc.. But then... work called. Kids came along and are constantly runnin', screamin', and cryin'. In essence, LIFE happened. But I feel as though I can't truly lounge on this very expensive, very comfortable couch to the fullest extent that I should.

So I have decided to quit my job so I can focus all of my (lack of) energy on getting my TRUE money's worth out of this couch. But that means, the bills will not be able to be paid. The family will be neglected. Eventually they'll leave me behind and all I'll ask of them is "Leave the living room furniture".

To that end, I was wondering if any of you might like to 'sponsor' me. I assure you, I work very hard at lying on this couch. It's something I take VERY seriously. And in return for any funds donated, you will not only get the comfort of knowing that you are helping me fulfill my dream, BUT..... I'll even move to the love seat should you ever stop by and need to take a load off for a few. I'm not kidding! My couch will be YOUR couch (for a 20-30 min period; don't wear out your welcome, bro).

Does it take you forever to get in the lying position on your couch? If so, I'm in.

It does! In my younger days, I was able to just assume the perfect position within seconds. Now, I squirm and shift around until I can get to a spot/position that I more or less have to settle for. And even that takes longer than I'd like. Not to mention, it has created an enormous rift between myself and my wife.

It's not 'maximum comfort'. It's just good enough. I think that quitting my job is really going to help me unleash that 'max comfort' potential. I estimate that, with daily practice over the next 6-12 months, I'll be able to go from standing to 'max chill mode' in under 1 minute.

Absolutely. Coaches can very valuable for pool play. They can observe mistakes in a players fundamentals as well as...What? He said couch? As in settee?

Your skills do not pay the bills. The thrills are too much for your will. You cannot compete. And may not have a treat. So get up and get it yourself!

Get a bank loan to finance your pool career. Whoever pays your way for this without a return on investment is a sucker.
