If you had a couple of cues that had warped or damaged shafts which replacement shafts would you choose and why. Would you stick with the original manufacturer's brand or switch to another? I have a Meucci and a Lucassi I am thinking of getting new shafts for and while I am thinking of a higher end Meucci shaft for the Meucci ( The Pro model). I am thinking of a predator vantage series for the Lucassi which has a uniloc joint. I would like some advice as these shafts cost about the same as the retail value of the cues.

I'm a big believer in it's the indian not the arrow and I'm a big supporter of getting used to the player you have. I tried an LD and couldn't get used to the taper. I play with a production Joss so I called Dan Janes at Joss and had him make me the exact shaft that I use now as a back up. Same tip and all. If I send my shaft out to get re done I have an exact back up. I'm always looking for consistency.
In any case I'd try a Tiger Ultra-X LD shaft (the 12,75mm, not the "No LD" Pro X with 11,75mm).
It's a solid shaft, has very good feedback (different laminate that the others do), comparable squirt as a Predator and can be bought just about anywhere with almost any joint at a fraction of the cost.
For the Meucci I'd get an original shaft.

I purchased a few Players HXT shafts for 2 Predators that I have.
Let's say, partly out of not wanting to spend the type of money on a Predator shaft, and a very good part of wanting to test them out.
I let a lot of good players give them a run for the money and all liked them just fine.
So, why spend $300 Canuckian Dollars on one shaft when I can buy 2 HXT's for much less.
I got 2, 12.75 mm and one 11.75 mm. The HXT are available in all pin sizes and with a plain black joint collar or one silver ring.
Far from being close to a Master but for all the years using a Predator shaft depending on which cue I was using, I found there to be approx Zero difference between the 2.
Should you purchase one for a try out and find that it doesn't suit your playing needs, sell it or use it for a back up.
And, I agree with MG whole Heartedly re the Meucci. I use a PP 1 more than any other cue. Been thinking of seeing whether I can find another Black Dot for it, preferably used. I wouldn't mess around with any other shafts for it. Altho, should you try an HXT for the other and like it, you could try one for the Meucci.
Matching the joint collar for that one may the tricky part as they do seem to vary a tad. I would measure my cue at the joint and ask the seller what the HXT is before handing any money over.

If you like the Meucci style of hit and feel, it might be cool to try the Pro shaft. Ok...it hits nothing like an old Meucci. But it hits great, and is fairly low deflection. It can put silly action on the cue ball. Overall, I think its a great shaft. If you are in the least interested in the world of low deflection, try it. If you hate it, just sell it. But you will need to try it for a month to really "get it".

I'm in the same situation with my Schon. Just don't love my 314/2.
I'm contemplating Schon's maple shaft.
Apparently, they have their own proprietary tip.
Of course I'll have to contact them, but I'd REALLY love some feedback from those kind folks here that have used one!

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on a "factory" Schon cue shaft. I've scoured the Internet and it seems occasionally some guys say that they don't like Schon's maple shaft due to its high deflection. I'd absolutely LOVE to hear your opinion, sir.
I currently use a 12.75 314/2 and it just seems hard for me to control. I recently had the opportunity to shoot with a 13+mm Schmelke shaft, and it just seemed so natural and comfortable with the larger diameter shaft. I'm thinkin' I'd even opt for a 13.50 Schon with a soft tip. I shoot straight pool exclusively...

Just to set up a theoritical question:
Assuming a 314/2 with the "same" tip as the Schon, can you describe the hit of each?
Do you feel the Schon deflects more than other solid maple shafts?
I know this is just your own take, but I can't find a Schon shaft to experiment with.
I hate to bug you, but right now I'm on a limited budget and am merely trying not to make a mistake. Thanks again!
You said the most important thing, that this is MY take on the subject. There is no way to explain the difference in the hit and feel between the Schon shaft and an LD shaft other than the latter felt dead and just didn't do it for me.
Try a Schon shaft and if you don't like it, you can get all of your money back if you buy right.
