I used to work in-house downtown as an employee at a busy company in my industry, which is also fractured, like pool, when it comes to making money. I worked long 16-hour days, getting little to no sleep. I was getting frustrated with the so-called "office politics" and the sleep deprivation, so much so that I wanted to quit, leave the company, and get out there on my own. I remember telling a few coworkers, "I'm going to start my own company and never have to work like this again."
They would chuckle and laugh at me, "Yeah, right. Well, how come you're still working here with the rest of us? Ha-ha." Every time I would get infuriated with my work situation, I would spend time at home working on creating my own niche in the industry.
Well, one day, I finally broke free and began to work on my own. Within a year, I had a solid client base. Meanwhile, the owner of the company I worked for, a really nice man, passed away suddenly, and the company went under. All those employees who laughed at me were without a job, but I was out there on my own making money.
The moral of the story is if you want something bad enough, you can get it, no matter what the obstacles and what is said by Debbie Doubters and Negative Nellies. As the saying goes, there are three types of people in this world: those who make it happen, those who watch what happens, and those who wonder what happened.
