ABR Special Report - French Press Conference

FYI Dennis has had a tournament sponsor for many years who paid all his expenses in return for 30% of his winnings. 50-50 would not be an attractive deal for him. When I spoke with Dennis last he told me that he thought the contract only pertained to DVD sales and nothing else. He never read it and wouldn't understand it if he did. His English reading comprehension is about third grade level. John French told him the contract was only a formality for the guy who was producing the DVD. Dennis was misled, of that I'm sure.

I intend to ask Dennis about all these things when I see him in person. I prefer face to face when you really want to find out the truth. I don't like what I'm hearing either and I will get to the bottom of it!
French said in his interview that someone read the contract to Dennis at least twice (I think the attorney) and that Dennis had people in NY read it and explain it to him.

So it wasn't quite clear(I havent listen to French's press conference - at work), where did the 2500 from Dennis' side came from? Was it from Dennis b/c I thought French had 0 on the match(besides what he was betting on the rail).
It came from Steinway owner and a couple others it sounds like. Dennis's side had raised 9k before the match assuming the 10k would happen, and Dennis asked French if they couldn't come up with the last 1k, would French take it, and he said that he would. When it came down to only $2500, a few people were in on it. Dennis only had $500.

sound like dennis is in the states for a jolly up
plays on other dimes doesnt pay poor sportsmanship deceiving fans
sounds like a disgrace
even before french interview thought this
if a quarter of what french is true dennis absolute scumbag
Exactly

If there was a professional organization, trash like this would be put on the sidelines for 6 months. It's just a shame.

No it is not! One more lie revealed by French.
Seriously Jay? French was told at the DCC by someone that the hotel and entry fees were covered. I didn't realize that the Big Foot wasn't covered either until you just said it. To claim this was an intentional LIE by French is laughable.

That would be a horrible investment no matter how good of a player you're backing.

That is why I said "How sweet of a deal would it have been for Dennis to have someone put him into every tournament he played in, pay for his living expenses, etc. and Dennis gets to keep 50% of what he wins".

John was giving Dennis a lot it sounds like. $6500 to go to the derby? I think Dennis probably would have made a lot more in the long run if he had gave John half of his winnings at the derby but maybe half of what Dennis won was enough for him to say screw this relationship.

Well at least French made out like bandits betting on Oscar. 2 days after Oscar's match, he asked Oscar if he had won. When Oscar said yes, French said great, b/c he had 6K on Oscar.

This is 2 days after Oscar's match, that French inquired about the results of a match that he supposedly had 6K on.

Dennis could have easily had both his Filipino backer AND French backing him, without either backer knowing about the other.

That has happened countless times in the pool world, and been written about in all the road stories books out there...

Hell, maybe he had 3 backers:)

Help me out here guys....So, if i'm understanding this correctly, Frenchy said he staked Dennis to 6500 to go to the DCC for room, entries and gambling money as he was not going to be there the first few days? Is that correct? And the only action Dennis got into was against the unknown Omar guy for 400.00 that went hill hill that Jay said Dennis offered him half of? And Dennis lost? Is this correct?

Its hard to figure out exactly what was said. Did you listen to the podcast? You have it about right imo, based on French's version.

You really need to listen to both podcasts carefully, imo, for info from the horse's mouth. Both of them are chock full of information. Dennis and French are pretty much talking the entire time.

I believe i also read somewhere that French wasn't in much action except when he first got there and bet like 10 or 15k on the Omar guy against Sky and Sky beat the guy like 13-5. Tough loss for sure for Mr French.

Very interesting thread and an even more interesting insight into this forum. A lot of people on here sounding like they absolutely know what they are talking about, when nothing could be further from the truth. I only believe half of what I see and none of what I hear. That holds true for this thread. A lot of blather coming from uninformed people who want to sound smart.

I will admit that I don't know ALL that took place before and after the Ko match and I know little about the true nature of the relationship between Dennis and French. I do know Dennis and he is not the villain that some would like to portray him as. What I do know about French has not impressed me in the least.

I will hold off on making any judgments until I can get the full story from Dennis' perspective. If Dennis does in fact owe French money I will strongly suggest to him that he pay it back. When Shane told me about the 10K French had fronted him I also suggested he send it back immediately and he did.

How the heck much did French think he was getting in PPV. I don't think any PPV is over 500 viewers.

French said that he was hoping to get 20k from the stream that would cover the two 10k checks to Shane and Dennis. But French said that it could have ended-up less than that.
