So who is starting this new national tour? Does he/she have money behind them. How much added money? I thought Oscar D had Vegas pretty much covered. It would be nice to see a National tour for male and female U.S player only...no green cards. Johnnyt

NEW NATIONWIDE TOUR DEBUTS

(February 18, 2016) – Exciting news - the rumor that a new nationwide billiards tour is about to launch is true! The North American Pool Tour (NAPT) has hit the billiard scene.
The NAPT, which plans to cater to more seasoned players, will also emphasize developing up and coming players as well. The first few events for women will be announced soon with plans to expand the program to men and junior events

Currently, the NAPT is comprised of established regional tours with an estimated 400 female players nationwide. “We pooled our knowledge and skill together to start something new for our players. From there, it expanded into the NAPT.” said Adrianne Beach, NAPT President. “Our goal is to offer more opportunities for all players at all levels throughout North America.”

The NAPT is committed to providing an open forum for players of all levels to participate and compete by providing opportunities to play in tournaments at both the regional and national levels, while striving to expand the sport of billiards within North America. If you are interested in starting a regional tour or need more information, please contact us and/or visit the NAPT website at www.playnapt.com.

Just reading the press release and checking out their website about regional tours, it looks like they are using pre existing tournaments and organizing them into some sort of national tour. Maybe they will promote some of their own events.

I've always thought this type of format could work to create a defacto tour which is what we currently have. Several different events promoted by different tournament directors could be banded together to form a tour. The Mosconi Cup points is sort of doing this the next year. These tournaments could be packaged as a tour with some organization such as Turning Stone, CSI, US Open, SBE, etc and sold to sponsors to add to prize money, points, possible tv, etc.

I just don't know if it's possible to have so many Chiefs and not enough Indians for this format to work. Good luck to them.

Why an issue with players playing that are not from the US? Just curious.

People think that saying this is "pro US" but I think its because they know the US doesn't measure up to the rest of the world in skill level at this point...

I think anyone should be allowed in any tour, and if you lose, go practice..

This is akin to barring the best player at every weekly tournament. Eventually, there is no one left to play.

I'm normally the biggest advocate for something new in pool...

First off, let me say that I wish them the best....

Now that that's out of the way...

I don't know... This would be akin to Nascar announcing (before they were started) that they were starting up a new racing tour, but that they would be doing it with 16-18 year olds only.

I mean it's pretty well established that the women pros are not as good (for the most part, i know there are exceptions) than the men.

So why start a fledgling tour without your best being at the forefront. You can say it's easier to market the women, but what happened to the WPBA??? Do they even have ONE event a year any more?

I'm normally a "hey guys, give em a chance" kind of guy for pool endeavors. I was with the IPT and Bonus Ball, and I am with this as well, I just don't think they're choosing the best route is all...

We already know who the best male player in the country is,
so I guess this tour is for figuring out who wants the honor of being called 2nd.

Hey it's the N.U.T.S.!!

Yep. And how long did the NUTS last? Half a year? There is no way in hell to come in and unite several regional tours into a national tour. Talk about herding cats!!!

The only way a new tour will ever work is if a new (or existing) entity, put up a yearly calendar of events, with enough prize money at each event to make the pros all travel to it.

Just uniting regional events [edit: at their current money level] won't do anything. Plus, its impossible anyway due to the cat thing.

Organizing the tournaments is the best way to aim for better advertising. It could also help by standardizing formats and rules. There's more to it, but those right there are important. I plan on getting something started and to have additional sources to tap into would be nice. Sourcing advertising can be tough locally, so with more to add that is already waiting for more outlets would be big. Xyz may not be interested in a local tournament each month, but give them a dozen locals.. meh.. a couple dozen regionals.. hmm.. a few hundred nationals? Maybe it can work.

Now.. how about the table ownership.. get those two together and you're really on your way.

It can work if the egos dont step in the way .. People need to realize just what pool is and not expect it to be more than that ,, it's not a upper tier sport , in fact its not in the top 5 tiers ,, but that does not mean it can't produce money because it can
However it needs to separate pro's from am's ,,
