Any Daz vs earl updates?

Not just Daz, but a point that I and others have made as well.

This format is the nuts. It has more than enough play to make sure the better play wins, and it's not a total snooze fest.

The lack of side pockets does make it a more difficult game, which is a great thing, but I'm still not completely sold on the idea yet..

The Archer/Morra match should be much closer. Archer isn't the same player he used to be, and Morra sucks in challenge matches (at least those that get streamed).

I totally agree on the "sets" format. Now in retrospect, I wonder if TAR would have developed a stronger, larger following with this sort of format.

I would like to see DAZ play again against another champion on this table. He has the right skills. This table might even be a Shane stopper.

Despite Earl's behavior, I can see where the game has merit. The top players would find it much more challenging than a standard Diamond.

Earl kind of proved his point, but couldn't hold up to the difficulty himself. Darren out ground him, out kicked him and out safed him. Taking away the sides removes a lot of options. The break is no longer an advantage. There are a lot more long shots and a lot more situations where safeties are wiser than taking a difficult shot.

That's all fine and dandy why not just play one pocket ,? Can't see it having any mass appeal to spectators

I highly doubt it you have to be pretty hard core pool enthusiast to want to watch 2 guys bunting the balls around the table

TAR heard the arguments for the sets format from plenty of people including myself and they did in fact do a couple of 'best of 3 races' to 30 or 25 iirc. In the end their fans seem to prefer the longer single races though. I dont think the format really had much to do with their demise in any case. I THINK from reading between the lines there were other contributing factors in play.TAR was the nuts yet they didn't outlast TVMike or BigTruck. Gotta be other factors involved in my half assed opinion.

We will never know the real story behind the demise of TAR I thought the timing was a little suspect as it came right after the hiring of Ozzy by Mark Wilson we saw just after that the steamed invitational and with Ko and Shane race to 21

Mark Griffen you meant. The first thing Ozzy did was step on his d*ck also-something i would have canned him for though i cant remember the details. He is still there?

Darren's safety game is incredible. I'd not seen him play before. He hit a soft one rail kick with the bridge that was just great, ended up 3 fouling Earl that game

I've always admired his safety play, I believe the skills of which came about from his championship 8 ball game. He thinks of very creative safeties and his kicking game is second to none. Earl kicks good too, but Darren controls both balls extremely well, even off multiple rails. he made one 4 rail kick safe, I almost stood up and saluted him.

Not when it's an overreaction.

On more than one occasion I wanted to walk out of a match Earl was playing in. I couldn't do it though because it was my event. Call it uncomfortable or pissed off or just tired of seeing a 50 year old baby throw his toys I have no problem seeing why someone would just decide to walk out of that sh!tshow.

What happened here is what always happens to Earl fans. They get a dose up close and realize it sucks to sit and watch a guy cry, b!tch and insult fans. The reaction is always one of four things:

- Leave. Like the poster here did

- Troll Earl. Like you say you would do at least thats what I get out of "Have fun with it". This happens alot and some of Earls biggest "Fans" come just to watch or make him tilt.

- Stay the course. This is most fans. They just put up with it. They laugh at it the first hour and just shake their head after that. This is what I did. Three times. Cause I'm as sharp as an anvil.

- Make excuses. This group is made up of mainly amateur psychiatrists who will talk your ear off about all the reasons Earl is a jerk that are out of his control. When asked to defend this hypothesis it usually just ends in "Well its just a shame is all and its not his fault."

Earl is gonna Earl. At this point my favorite part of seeing him play anything is the reaction of his fans who have not seen him up close for the full show. Its straight up schadenfreude on my part but its so damn funny.

I'm standing by for the twelve foot table with one pocket in the middle of each rail.

Any format you can think of we talked about it and tried most of them. I really like the multi short set format but for various reason never did do this exact type.

If I do anything in the future it will be something with multiple short sets that allow a guy to dig out of a hole. In a long set if you are stuck eight games thats pretty much it. We always talked about a tennis like scoring system. Only with a game of pool replacing one point.

I, for one, am hoping we see this! Any way, any format. I miss your stuff a lot.

What really stoked this fire was when Earl beat Shane on that royally f*cked up 10 footer. I'll never forget the puzzled look on Shane's face when those pockets repeatedly spit out his fine shots. Maybe if Earl would have lost that, the table bullshit would have ended.

Earl was playing on the same table. Shane is obviously the superior player presently (mainly due to greater mental strength), but Earl played great in that match. He routinely made very tough shots on that same table.

Shane was all the way tilted midway through the first day. That was the worst I have ever seen Earl. I've said over and over that the tension in that room was thick. I was waiting for someone in the crowd to jump the rail. It was nuts.

Here's a funny Earl story. The night before the 10 foot match him and Shane are hitting balls on the table. Earl is banging them around, takes a pause and a fairly large local guy in his mid 20's comes up to him and very respectfully asks him "Would it be ok if I hit a few balls on the table when you guys are finished? I'm curious to see how it plays."

Earl looks at him like the guy just cussed his mother and says "No you can't hit balls on this table. You are not good enough to hit balls on this table." He said it with real venom and a look on his face like the guy was a POS for even asking. Have you ever seen a person get so mad so fast they can't speak? This guy did. His face turned red and his mouth opened and kind of moved a little but nothing came out. Earl being well tuned to danger had already started moving away at this point.

The local soon regained the power of speech and launched into cussing Earl with a zeal that I truly admired. He also started following Earl around the table. I dont remember the exact words but the gist was that he was going to do something bad to Earl. Meanwhile it was clear that this was not a new thing for Earl as he was clutching his 70" lance disguised as a pool cue and strategically keeping at least one pool table between him and the red faced local. Every time the guy would start to calm down just a little Earl would call him a "c*cksucker". Then the dance would continue with Earl always just out of reach and knowing that soon the calvary would come.

It didnt take the room staff long to see the large man with the red face chasing the Hall of Famer who was weaving between tables at a fast walking pace. A couple of the female servers swooped in and intercepted the pissed off local. They were very good about getting him to break off the chase and go to the bar to cool off where he was then told politely that maybe it was a good idea for him to go home. As he left he gave Earl a look that would kill any sane man and mumbled something about walking in the parking lot could be dangerous.

This all happened pretty fast and after it was over all I could think about was what if Earl got stabbed in the parking lot when he left and I had to explain to people that the match was cancelled. This is the type of thing you don't worry about with Shane, Daz, Filipinos or anyone else really. But with Earl you always have in the back of your mind "I hope he doesnt get killed before the match is over."
