2016 World 9-Ball Championship

Well in terms of % of total players, from last 64 to last 16, not much change in % of number of players from Taiwan, Philippines, China , USA
The big increase in % of players from Europe from 28% to 44% while the big drop is from Rest of World , mainly Middle East players from 27% to 13%

LAST 16 LAST 64
# Players % of total # Players % of total
Europe 7 43.8% 18 28.1%
China 2 12.5% 7 10.9%
Philippines 2 12.5% 10 15.6%
Taiwan 2 12.5% 10 15.6%
USA 1 6.3% 2 3.1%
Rest of World 2 12.5% 17 26.6%
TOTAL 16 100.0% 64 100.0%
(Alex counted under Philippines, Wu counted under China)
:D

I don't count Alex under the Philippines!

On to the substance. There may be two explanations for the relative showings of the Euros and those from PI and China/TPE.

One possible explanation is that the top players from PI and China/TPE are not quite as much better than the rest as many people think. Not to say that Chua and Ko and the rest are not killers, but maybe they aren't that much better than the rest of the world, especially when we are dealing with relatively short races.

Another possible explanation is that the new break rules (9 on the spot and legal break requirements) favour the Euros, who have used this break for a long time.

It might be a combination of the two, of course.

Most importantly, GO ALEX!

I think as far as the phillipeans is concerned 10 ball is the only game being played so with the break being such a huge factor at this stage with these caliber players the person with the most consistent break will do the most damage and like someone said the euros play a ton of 9 ball with the same break format so they're used to it but most of these guys get out 3/4 times with a shot so it's a race to the first shot and if ur breaking successful and seeing the lowest ball ur winning the race to the first shot on ur break.

I'm sure it's already been asked so sorry but does anyone know why this thread option is blue on the main screen?

That can't be I've posted in other threads and this is the first blue one I've seen

If you're talking about why some threads are highlighted I believe that's when there have been new posts in those threads since your last visit.

It's none of that I'm saying on the main forum tab after the green threads that don't change they're usually all white except this particular thread has been blue for quite some time. I don't know if it has to do with it being an official thread or a major tournament thread but I've yet to see it on any other threads.

AtLarge will u be doing stats on streamed matches at the end of the tournament? I'm sure u will since u pretty much do stats for the majority of popular streamed events but I'm wondering if the major time diff will slow u down fortunately genpool looks to be uploading to YouTube. But yea I like going through ur stats like I said I'm a numbers guy and being able to watch a tournament play out n watch the streams then go compare my opinions to the stats is fun and a good thing for any sport. Ur doing a good deed hopefully future generations can use our stats to compare with theirs. Besides the accustats shooting average I don't know of too many other pool stats from the past so I COMMEND YOU AND HOPE YOU KEEP DOING WHAT U DO KIND SIR

Btw to posts replying about the blue. On my main forum tab home page threads are like bold if I havnt read them so it's not that n I've posted in other threads n this is the only thread with a blue backdrop. I was just wondering why it's blue cuz I figured it was blue for everyone because of a
Special reason but I guess I'm confusing u guys so it's no big deal

Alex got his spot in this tournament 'cause he is the reigning Canadian 9-ball champion.
....so CANADA is still in the running for this title.

Great, so there are two Americans left then, SVB and Kevin Cheng.

Yes, I'm watching. But apparently there will be only 6 streamed matches this year, so the sample is not too good. Last year for this event I was able to track 23 matches with 340 games. This year it probably won't be a whole lot more than 100 games. I'm curious to see the difference made by the new (in this event) 9-on-the-spot racking rule. But they are still not using a break box, so the rate of successful breaks will still be pretty high.

Glad you find the stats of interest. Thanks.
