Turning Stone Classic 26 - players list and press release.

There are simply not enough top tier or 2nd tier players for CSI BB, TS and throw in the China Open. Who the hell wants to watch at least 75% "two and out players"? The top players are just spread too thin. This getting points for the MC for BB and regional tournaments don't help either. Johnnyt

Actually 25 percent of the field goes 2 and out, but who's counting.

Every TS is different. This one's allure is that there is a real chance for a regional shortstop or 3rd tier pro to make it really deep, maybe the finals. There's 5 or 6 top shelf players and then 30 contenders. It's going to be a great event, like always.

Scheduling the barbox event on top of this event is counterproductive. Still it's great for these guys to have options where they get to choose where to go.

I predict Shaw comes out guns blazing and captures his 4th TS title.

I was surprised to see Donny Mills is signed up for TS. I didn't think he went that far north. As everyone knows all crazy stories start with "A Florida Man", so there's no reason Donny can't win it. I gotta pull for the local guy..

With American pool in the state that it is, I find it pretty fitting that our #1 player is skipping the China Open and Turning Stone for the USBTC. Even more fitting if he snaps it off. Maybe I'm just too cynical.

Donny has played in the last few turning stone classics, and it's always great to see him compete up here. He gives all is working stiffs hope that it's very possible to compete with the full time professionals.

I could definitely see him reaching Sunday if he gets a great draw and shoots like I've seen him do in the past.

Also, where is a Dennis hatch????
This would've been a great opportunity for him to finally take down this tournament.

I might be wrong but will that tie Johnny archer for the most turning stone wins?
At large???
A little help?

Is the Conte billiard supply still open in Utica?

...a bit off topic but pool related

Seriously?? I just looked at the roster on the Joss Tour page, it is kinda slow for updates.
Guess i will wait till last minute like always .

BTW:

CK, cant help to notice you look quite a bit younger,...... what's your secret ??

That's my son in the avatar, when we were shooting some late night pool at sand castle billiards in New Jersey after one of the make it happen event nights.

He was seven then.

I don't look seven anymore, but sometimes the wife says I act it. :grin-square:

The last I heard it was still open. I rarely get out that way so I don't have first hand knowledge as of late.

Did Dickie ever get in touch with you after I told him you said hi at the last Turning Stone?

I miss Al Conte...we were discussing the Miz's weight once...
...we came to the conclusion that it was somewhere between a Gold Crown and a Viscount.

No, Archer has won 6 times.

For the 25 Turning Stone events played so far:

• 15 different players have been winners. Bustamante, Van Boening, and Immonen have each won twice; Shaw has won 3 times; and Archer has won 6 times.

• 20 different players have finished second. Hatch, Sossei, Immonen, Morris, and Morra have each been runners-up twice.

• 30 different players have finished first or second. Archer leads with 7 appearances in the finals, Immonen has 4, Shaw and Morris have 3, 7 players have 2 (Bustamante, Williams, Hatch, Morra, Sossei, Van Boening, and Dechaine), and 19 players have appeared in the finals just once.

Based on the player list on the Joss Tour website updated to 8/18 for T.S. XXVI, 5 of the past winners (who have accounted for 7 of the 25 wins) and 5 of the past runners-up (who have accounted for 7 second-place finishes) will be playing this week. That's a smaller number of prior-event finalists than we have seen in recent events. [Note -- It was reported earlier in this thread that Immonen is playing, though he is not on the 8/18 list. If that is true, it raises the counts to 6 past winners (9 events) and 6 past runners-up (with 9 seconds).]

Here's a list of the winners and runners-up from each of the Turning Stone Classic events, with those scheduled to play this week shown in blue (including Immonen):

I, July 2000 -- M. Immonen d. F. Hernandez
II, May 2001 -- F. Bustamante d. E. Reyes

V, Aug. 2005 -- F. Bustamante d. D. Hatch

VI, Feb. 2006 -- T. Hohmann d. K. McCready
VII, Aug. 2006 -- J. Archer d. S. Sambajon
VIII, Feb. 2007 -- J. Archer d. J. Morra
IX, Aug. 2007 -- L. Vann Corteza d. L. Ulrich
X, Feb. 2008 -- J. Archer d. J. Sossei

XI, Aug. 2008 -- J. Archer d. C. Williams
XII, Feb. 2009 -- R. Souquet d. D. Hatch
XIII, Aug. 2009 -- O. Dominguez d. Z. Zvi

Just a few minutes ago, arps posted a chart of the 64 players in the main event portion of the China Open. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=5647786&postcount=9 He got the chart from an Appleton post on FaceBook. The chart (showing who is in each of the 8 groups of 8) shows both Immonen and Hohmann. So I wonder if that settles the question of where they are playing this week. (But maybe they'll be no-shows in China and appear in Verona.)

Think Dennis lives towards Michigan or something now. It's hard to plan ahead for a 4 day event with expenses ans travel...plus it fills quickly.

The larger payout makes it a logical step, but for Thorsten and mika who now live stateside, I thought the travel expenses alone would negate any additional winnings, so that's why they've been Verona regulars.

They have him listed here playing in China open....

http://alison-chang.com/2016/08/21/china-open-kicks-off-in-new-venue/

And not on the updated turning stone list....

But Thorsten is listed in both, so it's all up in the air

When I saw Thorsten on both lists,I dropped him a quick note and he said he was in China. Said he paid his entry for turning stone before he knew that China was at the same time.

I ran into Hatch, Tony Coleman, and Jeremy Edwards at a Casino in Michigan City a few Christmas ago.

SVB likes bar boxes better than big tables. I think this is why he is not at TS tourney. He has said that bar box 8 ball is his favorite game.
