What type of person would throw their hands up and yell in celebration after a miss?

Johnny Archer is 60? ...

No, he's not. From the BCA Hall of Fame web page:

Johnny Archer is a four-time world 9-ball champion and .... Born in tiny Twin City, Ga., Nov. 12, 1968, Archer was ...

I think that means he will be 48 in about a month.

So a 60 year old senior citizen underdog in a tournnament isn't allowed to react to the unthinkable?

I think it was a very mild reaction to getting the chance to win.

Sorry you feel butt hurt.....:nanner:

In that situation, there should have been no type of possibly disrespectful reaction to Orcollo's miscue and scratch. Yeah, have no mercy, any run out, and win the match, but be respectful about it. Young junior players might look up to these Pro's, and they should not be seeing them act that way. This sport needs to get a better image, and hopefully someday it will. Stop all of the sharking, cheating, and acting in any type of disrespectful manor (this message is for all of the pro players out there, even though they will never read this, or care even if they did). People are the way they are (nothing is ever going to change that).

DO has a long history of turning his back on opponents when he should be shaking hands so this causes me to be less offended in this instance.

Did JA do wrong? I think he knew he could be more sportsmanlike but this was a knee-jerk reaction for him fully expecting to lose the match. To his credit he immediately reset himself, sat back down then finished up the rack.

We can make an analogy like when a crucial field goal is missed and the opposing sideline start jumping for joy but it really is a different story with our sport being much more intimate, in this case one-on-one.

My final impression was no big deal.

all imo, of course. :)

best,

If this was the first time I saw Archer act unsportsman like it might be different..But he has done this many times...
His opponents always refuse to shake his hand when he does these things and he always tries to turn it around that they are the poor sports...
Have never liked archer as a person..Great pool player but a real jerk also...

I don't have a problem with it at all. Let people get fired up about the game. My theory is that if you dont want me to beat you or celebrate or anything else then you had better beat me. If something I am doing hurts your feelings then next time dont give me that opportunity.

Celebrating is just fine, but at least wait until you have won the match, and shook your opponents hand (after that point, then I think that is when the celebrating should start, if you feel like celebrating your win). It is not about any ones feelings getting hurt, it is about showing respect, and acting in a respectful manor).

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, that's fine. You are neither wrong, nor are you right. Johnny reacted quickly and that's that. I can honestly say I don't know how I would react until the situation presented itself. I try to remain classy at a all times but being human can cause a variety of emotions.

Johnny has always been a class act when I've watched him play, win or lose. YMMV.

jbk

He should not have shouted at all, but I did not like the sound of it (sorry). I do not care what kind of shout it was. Very disrespectful in my opinion.

Johnny's a class act, it was just a surprise, kind of like thinking you're about to take a sip of milk but it's orange juice.

That was like a 1/10-of a second jump. He didn't dance around and rub it in, etc. He was surprised, so he jumped up and immediately sat back down again (i.e. he realized he shouldn't have done it and immediately stopped). With Dennis's back to Johnny, I doubt Dennis even saw it because it was over so quickly.

No big deal here. Dennis and Johnny have mutual respect for each other. It was just a momentary reaction, nothing to get upset about. Dennis didn't even react!

I'm curious. What is your high run in 14.1?

I am really sickened by the way that Johnny Archer acted after Dennis Orcollo miscued on a shot.

I do not know Johnny Archer, and I do not know what type of person he is (I have honestly not followed his career, or seen his behavior after during most of the matches that he has ever played), but he was my most favorite player as a kid, and I always looked up to him.

I can't believe that he (or any Pro player player, who regularly plays in front of an audience) would act like that.

Is this normal behavior for Johnny Archer?

Just curious.

I am sorry, but I just happened to stumble on to that video, and was shocked by the way that Johnny Archer acted, after Orcollo made an error (miscue) on a hil/hill game for the Championship title.

I had to re watch it several times, because I was in such disbelief about the way he acted.

I am sorry if this topic has already been posted about.
Johnny's reaction was no big deal. If that makes you sick what happens to you when earl plays.?

By reading this thread and your responses, it does not appear that you are actually asking for any other input here. You are stating your opinion and then defending it to every poster.

So why not dispense with the pageantry and just state what your opinion is in the original post, then instruct people not to have differing opinions?

In my opinion, that was even worse behavior then refusing to shake a persons hand after a loss. Orcollo probably has a family to feed too (back home, where he is from), and he may have also really needed that win.

Oh cmon!!!! There are people that would say someone who makes this big of a deal about a little celebration at a tournament would be akin to a drama queen.
The facts are as such, Archer was very happy and surprised to get a shot at that rack, it was hill/hill, I think Dennis had won the first set, and it looked like Dennis was going to bring it home. Dennis misses and basically hands Archer the win. Archer showed a little spur of the moment celebration. Should football players not celebrate an interception? Blocked punt? Most often those occur because of mistakes, a mistake similar to a mistake like Dennis makes.
