So now Shaun is on some kind off anti drug drug testing mission. He says that since he plays sober he is at a big disadvantage to all the other players that do ( whatever ). Something to the effect of testing every two hours of a match lololol. Mentioned was Adderall and weed. lol. So my response to him would be well what is those doing those things had a legally prescribed prescription for such???? Then what? Shauns from my area. I think he is being a bit condescending and that's all I'll say. I guess the real question for dices sion is now - with SOO many people on here discounted " get I
ting the mixture right " and saying it only drags down your game with no real sustained beneifit, then what is it anyone has to worry about? What does Shaun have to worry about . OR, is it really something to it that the real players have known for a long, long time? can't have it both ways, yall know where I stand.

Surprising......

When I was a kid, I was always told that if I want to take this game seriously, I had better plan on becoming chemically addicted.

thank you for finally revealing how to get my game to the next level.

going down the street corner.

be right back.

He seems to think that " drugs" relieve pressure, allowing drug users to beat him.

Hmm.
I doubt it.

From Facebook:

" Maybe someday I'll have a backer and want to gamble?? I'm at an unfair advantage since I'm completely SOBER and most others aren't.. If people had to deal with REAL PRESSURE instead of allowing drugs to cloud their brain then many top players wouldn't be at the top! I would play anybody ( take what you make ) 8 ball on a 9 footer.. Would need a backer first? And DRUG TESTS during the match every 2 hours!! #GetSomeKnowledge #PlaySober #RespectTheGame #PossibleSponsorsDontWantAddicts"

Marijuana is not going to help your game or focus. Eventually you become burned out and lazy.

Adderal can absolutely increase focus. Many students in college swear by it.

Wilkie could take all the Adderal in the world, but it won't change the fact that he has always been a 2nd tier professional pool player. If he had the potential to be a significant player, it would have occurred long ago.

He's s great guy. One of the nicest pros out there. I wish he had more opportunities, but like any other tournament situation only a couple guys are good enough to win. If he were better, they'd be room for him at the top.

He brings up a good point..sort of. I think it's fairly questionable how much of an edge these drugs can give in pool, and there is a serious chance of the plan backfiring on the user. The effect of drugs is not always 100% predictable, even when closely monitored by a doctor. Drug users are not known to be carful or meticulous about their use. They like to push their limits.

Here in Europe there has always been the case that you can get tested for drugs at any time during an official tournament. While this may be a good thing, I can't help but wonder if I would pass one of these. Don't get me wrong, I don't do any drugs, but these tests are so sensitive that they can pick up even trace amounts of drugs that may be accidentally added to normal medication or supplements.

I'm not an athlete, so I'm not actually obsessively monitoring every ointment or pill I might take for minor injuries or illnesses. If my back is acting up and I need some valium or pain killers which I almost never take btw, I can't compete. I guess I'd better read up on how long these drugs stay in your system. I suppose they could be randomly testing people at the pool hall or in their homes as well? Lol. Do I have to stop practising if I get a sore back..or be without any pain relief?

But what about other times? Basically I risk getting banned for something that would not give me any real advantage or I was even aware of taking and labeled as a cheater. I'm not going to quit my job to spend 8 hours a day scouring the label of every food or medical item I might ingest, so I'm probably at risk of getting kicked out of a "sport" I'm basically doing just for fun. I mean the national championship barely pays enough to cover expenses but the drug testing could in theory be done even at lower levels than that, even down to the lowest divisions. To me it makes no sense at all that such extreme measures should be taken at such low levels of play. The testing would probably cost more than the price fund, even in the national championship. And like I said, if it would be handled like in every other sport, you'd get punished even if the amount and type of drugs offer no advantage. Just too extreme for a sport with no prestige and no chance of ever getting into the olympics. I sincerely hope that some common sense would be applied when testing recreational players trying their luck in championships, but I doubt any common sense exist anymore.

The public would surely pretend to be shocked at the number of mediocrities who are sent home to mommy and daddy minus a diploma if colleges had the integrity to test for the abuse of Adderal and other like medications.

So, can the pool world support a drug testing regimen? The rules, costs, procedures, etc. would probably overtax a struggling system of tournaments, leagues and other type competitions. I doubt it's sensibly doable.

I use to play pretty sporty on Quaaludes,,,,,,, I think !!! LOL

LMAO. I had a hard time walking and chewing gum with them. I was more of a speed guy myself. Black Butes, Coke, and some weed and booze to get the mixture right. When right I could see the lint on the edge of the OB 10' away. Johnnyt

But Johnny I thought you only played on 7' tables

With all that said, he is one of the nicest guys around and is always doing things for pool.

We were on the same team in a masters league and I am proud to call him my friend.

Just because someone is LEGALLY prescribed something, doesn't mean it's not going to be listed as an illegal drug for competition in places where they DO test.
He is 100% correct.
It's like doping in any other sport. The only way to compete with dopers is to dope along with them.

The problem is, if they implemented drug testing for pool players, 95% of the players would get banned, and the level of pool would go down the drain.

:D
