I don't think anybody that actually knew how to play pool thought it was anything but a satire.
Bad acting, low quality, low budget, but not meant to be "serious".

Too bad the video sucks. Jimmy Mataya was a pro player and was quite competitive too, but preferred money games and hustling. Quite the character.

JImmy Mataya is precisely like this in real life. It's not an act... He is the weird uncle that comes to the family reunion wearing chartreuse golf pants and sock garters with GIGANTIC mirror lensed aviator sunglasses and white leather loafers. Yes... that is Pretty Boy Floyd in full regalia. Steve Cook wore the same stuff, but was a peach of a human being, always apologizing for destroying you one set after another.
I don't think it is a parody. If it is and the persona that Mr. Mataya puts on in public is purely an act, then I will apologize and admit that he is a genius and that he hustled me cold.

You guys are crazy. This is the best friggin' pool video EVER. I went to the bank to take out a loan a few days ago. I needed a new Rolls Royce. I handed the bank man a bunch of trophies for collateral, and he told me to scram, just like Jimmy said.
