Justin "The Putz" Bergman

Do you think great players that are slow play great because they are slow or in spite of it?

Like I said...unnecessary.

Not sure what you are looking for but if you have ever watched golf and watch some of the great pro's walk around the hole 4 or 5 times taking 30 to 45 seconds at each stop before they shoot. Golf has millions of spectators and no problems about the slowness.

Each player has a different style to achieve his or her point, Its the ones that can execute to almost perfection is the difference of playing slow or playing to win. I don't think Justin is in the top 3 in the US because he is slow, I think he in the top 3 because he executes what he see's to almost pure perfection.

Pay attention to some of the other pro's they are doing just what Justin is doing. Each time I watch I learn something that helps me improve my game.

One more thing, if you want to watch some slow playing...watch John Mora. I might add you will also see some of the best patterns played, shot making and unbelievable runout's. Or come to Peoria IL and watch Bobby McGrath (no slouch either) one of the fastest players in the world...and has a tad bit of accuracy too.

Cliff Thorburn is the best snooker player that ever came out of Canada...
...people used to complain about his style of play....
...I used to tell them "Bet on him...and you'll realize what a good horse you got your $$ on."
....and many saw what I meant.

I feel about the Bergman the same way...bet on him...you'll like it.

Speaking of Cliff PT, had you ever met Duffey Obrecht in your travels?

I grew up playing with Duff, he was Cliffs instructor at one point while playing worlds

Golf isn't pool. But while 30 seconds is a bit much it's tolerable. I'm talking about guys that take a minute or more on EVERY shot.

Point taken but reguarless of your's or my opinion he is still one of the best players in the US and maybe top 15 in the world. And for that I congratulate him and all the other that put in the time to achieve such a high level of play for so little reward.

In golf they are playing different courses all of which are 100% unique and they are " shooting " off of the ground lol - not off of a precision machined piece of slate which are all basically identical.

Each player has their own preferred pace of play, and while some players no doubt play more slowly than they need to, not every player who plays too slowly for some fan's liking does so unnecessarily.

If you sped up the pace of play of some players there's no doubt that they would play worse.

I hate slow play. It's annoying and completely unnecessary.

Not to single you out...

But who are we to decide what is right for another? What if you were told your timing needed to be 1/5 less or 5x longer than you are comfortable with?

He isn't in violation of any rules and until he is, there is no reason to think we can justify commanding him to change.

True, but how do you like to PLAY a slow player lol?

You can single me out. I'm a big boy. After all I am singling out all of the dreadfully slow players out there. Not only Justin, who by the way, is an amazing player. I'm not taking that away from him.

Do some research on the subject, and you'll find there are various reasons that a player might play slow. Not limited too

1. New to the game/Uncertain about the shot
2. Lack of confidence
3. Sharking tactic

Do any of those sound like Bergman to you?

Oh, and I think you can totally justify asking a player to speed up in certain situations.

If these guys were gambling in a back room with no cameras, then they can take 30 minutes to shoot a shot for all I care. But when the cameras are rolling and people are paying to watch and hopefully be entertained, well then I think you have to say something. In my opinion , there are only two types of spectators when it comes to slow players

1. Those who can't stand them. (me)
2. Those who can tolerate them.

But I don't think anyone purposefully purchases a stream like this in the hopes one or both players takes 2 minutes on every shot.

Agreed. The slow player gamblers rarely get played, UNLESS they are known to be a good score A ND u can stomach it.

What did you expect with 20k on the line and him playing someone as good as Danny? Its what he does for a living, he should take as much time as he wants.

Bergman is one of my favorite all time players... One of the best strokes in pool - and he is a grinder. Plus, I like winners.

#2 has the greates concentration of Bergman.

A level exceeded by his concern of the trophy and the fact that he has no plan to clock in tomorrow...or the next day, or....
