2017 Derby City Bigfoot 10 Ball

Jayson wins 11-7 to advance to the semis against Van Cortezza. Orcullo eliminated from the 10-ball but he's still undefeated through 6 rounds of bank pool, so he might find another route to a big paycheck.

Atlanta Falcons are surely heading for the Super Bowl, leading Green Bay 31-0. Johnny Archer lives in the Atlanta area, so he'll be pleased about this.

In the interest of complete disclosure:

Jayson 7 Dennis 5

Atlanta Falcons 24 Green Bay Packers 0 at halftime

The biggest shocker, though, is that Chris Melling has won his first seven matches in the bank pool event. It's his first Derby, and it's unlikely he has ever played bank pool before. I recall watching the Ko brothers trying to figure the game out a year ago at the Derby with limited success.

OH man I love that guy-hope they can get him on a stream sometime.

PS-Gorst undefeated thru 7 also

As the Bigfoot has anther day left, odds are Melling will need to reach the bank finals (usually the last three or four players) to reach the stream table in banks. Odds are, he needs to win three of his next four matches and he'll now start to draw the favorites such as Daulton, Thorpe, and Brumback, so the odds are probably against it. Like you, I'd like to see it.

I think this is startling...how does a British snooker player come over here and win 7 bank
matches?.....although he was very inventive when he was playing more pool before.
...I used to call Corey Deuel the American Reyes...and Chris Mellng the British Reyes.

but nevertheless...if Melling won the DCC Banks....
...it would look like a National Enquirer headline....you know, like...
.."1950s Airplane Lands...WITH SKELETONS ABOARD!!!!!!!!!!"

... Is this the same event as the fatboy challenge which Efren won a few years ago?

Yes, it started as the Fatboy 10-Ball Challenge in 2009. There were 4 Fatboy DCC events, 2009 through 2012. The winners were Corteza, Reyes, Morris, and Bustamante. But those were all on 9-foot tables.

For the first Southern Classic (essentially a summer DCC in Tunica, MS), they switched to a 10-foot table and it became the Bigfoot event (Diamond 10-Ball Challenge). The current one is the 7th -- 2 in Tunica and 5 at DCC.

Here's a thread that shows all the past money winners of the Fatboy and Bigfoot events: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=387852

Right on!

Banks Round 8 now drawn. Undefeated Fedor Grost has drawn defending champion John Brumback. Undefeated Chris Melling has drawn John "Hennessee" Pinegar, a very accomplished bank pool player.

Let's see how it goes.

Im up top over looking the arena. So much going on right now. Bigfoot, several high profile players playing banks, and Darren playing 14.1 right behind me. Hard to focus on 1 thing. Crowd is surprisingly light for the bigfoot, but you can only hear them announce the match if you're already in the room. I think people file back in after the long dinner break and realize hey they're playing over there.

Hohmann and Kazakis are tied at 1-1 after a surprising miss by Hohmann on an easy 3 ball in game 2.
