Major props on winning the one-hole. Beat one of the best ever with a surreal display of banking. His hi-five victory lap was well deserved.

After Thorpe beat Schmidt out of 50k in one pocket and John's comments afterward, I was really wondering how Billy banks. Well, now I know. That was a very enjoyable match to watch. The banking by Alex was very good, but Billy was awesome.

Maybe someone set up a 10 ahead with Dennis, Alex, T-rex, Frost, Justin Hill, or Danny Smith.

I remember when Billy was just starting out. He was traveling with a backer and they were out hustling the towns. He was staying under the radar. I think that he was not truthful with his age and was claiming at the time to be over 18.

He was at a PH in Detroit and had a game going. TV Mike was doing his Monday night streaming and the backer wouldn't let him be streamed.

I remember a couple of the local bigger money players saying that that kid is starting off wrong and will end up being a pool bum and totally FUQed Up.

🎱

This 20 year old plays awesome. I saw him streamed earlier in the year at High Pockets and knew he had some incredible talent. He has many more years to even get better.

I don't know what "just starting out" means for him. Billy has been coming to and playing in the Derby City Classic since he was in elementary school. Not sure what radar be could be under.

Still, I like this story!

Freddie <~~~ needs radar

Could you be any more negative? A couple Detroit "big money players" were dishing-out advice on one's career path? That's priceless. Probably just jealous that they're stuck in Det. and the kid's actually going places.

Billy is a fantastic player who must now be counted among the game's elite.

I've known him for a lot of years, and had a nice chat with him during Darren's 8-ball event last week. He's a quality guy who is well grounded.

Great all around players not named SVB have been snubbed in the Mosconi selection process in favor of nine ball specialists in recent years, but Billy Thorpe, and Josh Roberts, who has shown great form at this Derby including being the other guy who beat Alex in one pocket, need to get serious looks.

Congrats to Billy and wishing him luck at pulling off Master of the Table.

A lot of tbds left for the young'n. Lets not send this book to print just yet.

One thing is for sure though; he brought a ful pallet of whup ass to the 2017 dcc.

Great stuff.

I noticed good crowds for the One Pocket, maybe even bigger than the Ten Ball. Mostly old guys like me . I think the average age was about 60!

LOL, true! Nevertheless, consider this 39 year old a recently converted Thorpe fan. Love those banks...wow! I hope he can pull off the Master of the Table award this year, but his nine ball draw in round 4 is pitting him against Rodney Morris, and he already has 1 loss going into the round, so it's an uphill battle probably. But aren't they all? Good luck to a fine young player!

SJM, I completely agree with you. I was fortunate enough to meet Billy a couple of years ago. Hell of a player but he is really a down to earth kid. I was an instant fan.

Pat just replayed the 1 hole final from last night, even better the 2nd time.
After that match I don't think you'll hear "Billy who ?" anymore.

Billy

So much for flying under the radar. Hopefully, now he will show up on more streams, etc. As a side note, I thought he was dressed nice for the streamed table as well. I noticed some seemed to wear hats and flip flops with socks this time around. I don't go crazy on people about it but it was nice to see a well presented young man play a great match. A match that will live on forever on DVD....

He is after all, Shane Van Boening's protege

I've been filming Billy Thorpe since he was 11, starting in Cincinnati at Michael's Billiards 2008
