How cool do you think it would be to have a cue that was owned by a champion player?

Have you ever wondered about who all owned and played with a cue that you are currently shooting with?

It may seem silly, but I wonder about these things.

I can only think of 1 cue (that I owned) that may have been owned and played with by a great player (which was a really nice Scruggs that I had), but who knows.

Anyways, I find it really interesting, to see cues that have a rich history (like cues that were owned with by famous legendary champions, like maybe Mosconi or Ralph Greenleaf to name a few examples).

Have you ever wondered what happened to certain cues that maybe a favorite player of yours played with (and won many championships with) in the past?

Have you ever owned a cue that you knew to have been owned and played with by any great champion players (of the past or present)?

Maybe you can post a picture and a short story about the history of the ownership of a cue (if it seems interesting at all) that you have or had in the past.

Thanks.

Hold on. You owned a Scruggs......and now, you were trying to sell an unknown cuemaker's cue for $300, so you could have money to attend Derby?

Interesting.

You once owned a Scruggs? Shirley Knott !!!

I have a shaft that used to be Mike Dechaine's, he won a few tournaments. First several weeks I had it I won the local tournament I play in two weeks in a row, then came in second the week after, did not cash, and won again the following week. So I guess they have special equipment.

I think it's worn out now, I have not cashed in that tournament in maybe last 4-5 times, although one week one of the guys I beat wanted to play for money and I beat him again to get my entry fee back and then some

Your cue owning, looking for adventures keep getting better, you had a Scruggs at one point? A guy I played with offered to sell me his pretty fancy Scruggs for $500 or something like that, about 6 years ago. It is probably a $1,500 + cue right now. Even when he wanted to sell it, it was close to a $1,000 cue if not more.

I didn't read your post, just answering your question.

I think it's cool. I have several, including a couple that were made by champions.

Yeah, way back in 2008, I came into some money (which I squandered away), and I purchased a very nice unique Scruggs cue (it had 4 cocobolo points, with diamond shaped ivory inlays within the points, large Ivory windows inlays below the wrap, and a cocobolo joint) on ebay. I was told by Scruggs partner (I forget his name) that the cue was made in 89 or 90, so who knows, but the cue may have went through the hands of some great champion level players (or it may have sat in its case most of its life, because the finish was in such excellent condition). Anyways, I think I had it for around a year before I sold it. Anyways, it was so nice (in my mind), that I was afraid to ever take it anywhere. I also had (at the time) a really nice Jack Justis case that was made for Michael Coltrane (which I thought was really cool, at the time). Those were the 2 nicest pool items I ever owned, but eventually had to sell them.

I own the cue Elvis Presley was playing with when he composed "you ain't nothing but a hound dog".

It is known he composed all of his songs while playing pool.

The cue is for sale if anybody is interested. For a little extra I can throw the Elvis concert scarf caught by Marilyn Monroe.

Not nearly as cool as owning this car...

Coolest provenance cue in my professional opinion is the frank paradise commissioned by willie mosconi for Mickey mantle....

I have yet to hear of or see any cue that beats it....

It's not the most expensive but like how predate Franklin/dpk sw have that high provenance.....that paradise is a world beater

I suppose if one still has, or clings to the notion of having a hero, or being an admirer, then owning such a cue has lots of appeal.
Personally, I'd much rather own a cue made by very specific famous cue-makers rather than the person who played with it.
The actual cue matters more than whom owned it since if the specs weren't right, it has little appeal even if owned by a legend.

You can go and pick a house cue, and be pretty close to what Efren played with in his prime!

No cues with provenance, but I do have a guitar neck that was once owned by Joe Perry of Aerosmith when he was doing the Joe Perry Project in the early 80s. Doesn't make me paly better, but it's one of the best feeling necks I've every played!

Not really.
Efren played his best with that 61", 22 oz $20 cue.:D
Won in a money game.
Efren swore he could force the cue ball to do things on that cue more than any other cue.
IT finally developed a rattle and it was sold to a collector.

I have one of Efren's practice cues ( a Linds ).
And the trophy he won at the Gabriel's Open in Las Vegas where he beat Feijen at the finals.

Well, yeah (owned several of them over the years, actually). One of my very 1st cues was a Scruggs sneaky (that I purchased directly from Scruggs for like $175, if I remember correctly, back in the 90's).

90's? How old are ya?
You don't strike me as someone that's been around that long
