Ebay cue.

Looks like the butt cap was replaced up to the logo in an effort to save the logo. Of course, I could be wrong.

If I am right, this certainly complicates the value issue.

I was under the impression it was a hoppe ring but I could be wrong! I am sure you are a lot more knowledgeable about cues than I am. I do thank you for the good information on the cue!

In the last picture from the joint collar down is that a crack?
Or just a grain line.
The picture is not very clear.

Yes it's a hairline crack in the finish! That's I am trying to find out more about it so I can decide to have it refinished or just shoot with it...

I thought same thing about buttcap.

Might not just be a finish crack.
BEM are infamous for cracking near the joint if uncored.
It's happened to the best makers.

You can't feel the crack when you run your hand over it.. Can that tell you anything about it? Thank you so much for the great help!

It must have been refinished with the crack.
Epoxy filled it up then re-sprayed.

That was my impression when I saw the other pics of the cue on Ebay.

It looked like there was finish over a crack.

Of course, a little surface crack may be fine...or it may be an alarm bell for a coming disaster.

The butt cap material looks different than the ring with the logo. I really think the cue was damaged, butt cap replaced, then the whole butt refinished.

I am not a cue maker so I don't want to overstep or say too much. IMHO A cue maker would make his best assessment with the cue in hand.

How deep is the crack? I have no idea, and I don't know if a cue maker could tell.

Certainly I would start by assessing whether or not the pin is still straight I would guess.

Stroud did core cues, but I don't think he started doing it until after this logo.

He does post in these forums so perhaps he will chime in. He would obviously be the best expert on this cue.

Personally, I think the cue led a hard life and got "fixed up" by somebody.

I believe Janes has permission to reproduce Stroud's logo so if further repairs are needed one might consider that matter.

In the end I am back to where I started, a lot of unknowns about this and it makes the value difficult I think.

Personally, if I had it, I would just play it.

The buttcap and the grain run-off in the shaft makes me think somebody put this together from different parts.

I neglected to even look at the shaft....I was too distracted by all the issues with the butt....you are right...that shaft wood does not look up to par for a Stroud cue.

It could be original but it doesn't look right.
I still have one with a butt cap and a ring w/logo , but I really don't know if it is considered a Hoppe ring used in that position.
Dosent really make sense.
