If you want to have some entertainment, read the whole description of this fine piece of history...

This was one of the first two piece cues ever made and cost the average working man an entire months salary (several thousand dollars in today's economy).

I would also recommend that if you're seriously interested in this cue to get your bid in BEFORE the last ten minutes of the auction. There will certainly be snipers and you'd hate to lose this opportunity to own a truly rare piece of billiards history because you failed to act in time.

So is this seller lying, mistaken, or misled?

Definitely mistaken...possibly lying or misled. Since 2-piece cues have been made since at least the mid 1800's, I'm guessing this fellow just has no clue. Doubtful that anyone would take his ad seriously...but as PT Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute."...and two to take him. LOL

I sent him a message saying that I enjoyed reading his short fiction story about the cue. Crafted like a master of sales and bullshit.

I guess he gets some credit for the depth of the bullshit.

I wonder who the SF cue historian was that he said he took the cue to? I was thinking about asking him that but I think it will be a "thanks for the inquiry, due to privacy of the person I cannot give out his name but he is well known in the industry and has 30 years of experience".

Jinx. It's possible, unlikely but possible, that this guy is naïve and just happened to stumble into a pool hall and meet the Andy Worhol of bullshit, who fed him all of this to be posted on the auction description.

"It is the same maple used for English long bows in the middle ages..."

Pretty amazing stuff, considering that the 'maple' used for English longbows was, in fact, yew.

I'd like to open the bidding at $1. Damn, they wouldn't accept my bid. I wrote to eBay and told them he was selling firewood, none of his claims about the cue are true.

buyer beware

I have a hard time putting out 1k for a great playing cue, let alone some junk collectible.

To bad eBay does not require some type of proof of authenticity

Ebay is actually assembling teams of experts in various fields for just this purpose. I don't know how far they have come with it but it is part of how they can justify the cost of dealing through them. I posted about it a while back suggesting that some people around here might be good candidates.

Historical, or is that hysterical, cue seller

Hi,
Ignorance - No.
His feedback indicates that he sold a Viking cue at some time over a year ago.
Oh, wait.
Maybe that was a cue used by the Vikings...
Take care,
Nick

Who wants to ask him? I said he had some old junk cue in bad shape even for junk and he said he will report me for "harassment" LOL

If you guys find out please let me know. I am in the bay area and can hit this guy up for some of my cues. haha.

Seriously though.

History

A Brief History of the Noble Game of Billiards (Pool, Snooker, English Billiards) by Mike Shamos, curator of The Billiards Archive, used with permission from the Billiard Congress of America – article outlines the first use of the cue stick and chalk, introduction of eight ball and other facts. ... The two-piece cue arrived in 1829.

If one did actually want to own a antique pool cue where would you look and what's the price range? Comparable to other 100 year old antiques?
