Some revealing information as it pertains to the APA. I had no idea. 26 million in and only 1 million out! That's crazy. Also, he mentions the FAT paychecks promoters are taking in for single events.

He doesn't favor handicapping.
He encourages betting to play under pressure which he believes will help your game.
He encourages people to play better players as this is the fast path to get better.

Tony shoots them straight in this interview. It's well worth the watch.

A new interview will take place and be posted soon.

Tony plays Dennis for 100k in 1 pocket starting July 11th, 2017

Tony makes an excellent point about betting something on pool games.
These guys that won't bet at least $5 - $10 - $20 on a game are not allowing themselves to grow as players. They don't have to be some high roller and bet the mortgage payment...just something to put a little bite on their pocket if they get stupid and dog that money ball.
And the betting can stay friendly...doesn't have to be one of those "I'm not paying and I'm gonna' knock you out" environments. Just stay out of those dumps in the first place.
Of course, as big as Tony is, no cracker biker is going to give him any stuff......T.Rex would rip the pool table off the floor and throw it at the troublemaker. Then, tear down the walls, and wreck the entire building...:):)
I hope this next remark doesn't offend (maybe the moderator will just remove it if it does and not get mad at me)...here goes: I've always felt that playing pool without some type of wager, no matter how small, was as unrewarding as having sex without an orgasm. Kinda' crude street talk, I know...but right to the point.
Just my opinion, no sermons.

And I have always felt that betting on pool is completely ridiculous. I don't need to put money on the table to prove anything or play my best. I enjoy playing the game. I know I am in the minority and that's fine.

Didn't Pete Rose say something similar?

Shit, I couldn't get past the music and camera adjustments in the first minute.

<== Short attention span today.

I find it funny about stupid things people say.

APA is a business, and if you dont like the way they do business, then dont do business with them. If you want to play league pool there are options.

The world sure has changed and the folks are now think that everyone should get a trophy, the government is needed to supply all needs, and it isnt a privilege and everyone is entitled.

While I enjoy watching Tony play pool, his comments should be taken with a grain of salt.

(I just wanted to comment on the parts you posted that I absolutely agree with)
You are 100% right.........if you don't like their rakeoff, then don't play in their leagues and contests.
I'd bet that a lot of the people complaining about the profit at the APA would not hesitate a second in walking up to the glitter and excitement of a casino crap table and betting on a 7......while getting even money odds. When it should be 5-1. (that may be different now, been a while since I was in Vegas).
Talk about a profit margin.........:)
Keep on truckin'

No wonder that Pool in America is declining and has a bad reputation.

Pardner, I didn't have any intention on getting you riled up.
It was just a light hearted way to make a statement. No offense meant and there were no swear or curse words used. You see and hear worse than what I posted on television every night.
Usually, men can speak to each other like that without getting riled. (my girlfriend thought it was hilarious)

Thorston hohman doesn't gamble to my knowledge and he is a world class player. Perpetuating the myth that gambling makes a player better is pure folly. I bet on pool from time to time, but has never made me a better player, though I won some and lost some.

He may not make any private one on one side bets, but he is gambling every time he enters a tournament. He has to pay an entry fee and his expenses. He's taking a risk in the hopes of getting a higher return on what he invests. That's gambling. And the pressure is on.
Where does he think some of the prize money comes from if not from a portion of the entry fees? From easter bunny maybe?
A person invests in the stock market....that person is gambling that the stock rises and he gets a profit from his risk. And the pressure is on.
A person enters a fishing contest....the entry fees help pay the prize monies. That's gambling. And the pressure is on.
A person opens a pool room and is gambling that his business skills produce more income than what he invested, same with a restaurant, convenience store, or a newspaper route. And the pressure is on.
A person writes a book.....and is gambling that the book sells and he gets a larger return on his original investment. And the pressure is on.
The same thing applies when entering a golf tournament, a race car event, a chess match..anything that has prizes. And the pressure is on.
When you yourself gambled on pool it may have made you a better player and you just didn't realize it at the time, you know?
The whole world of commerce rotates on risk taking......................except for the born losers. (a quote from Bert Gordon).
Just my opinon.
Keep on truckin'

Gambling (for the right amount) will improve your mental game and ability to play under pressure that you just can't get when playing for fun.

You get a similar experience by playing in tournaments, but it's always been easier to get into a heads up match. Not to mention, so many tournaments are handicapped, which is a complete waste of time.

This discussion again?

Let me remind you where it goes: not everybody is the same and the same experience has different impact on different people.

Bingo! Besides, I'd rather keep the money I worked, saved, and invested for. Those telling me I'll never get better unless I play for money are those trying to empty my wallet. Sorry guys, ain't gonna happen.

Let's see, I'm 73 years old, have diabetes, AFIB, and have worn glasses since 4th grade. 20-400 vision without glasses. Gee, so I play for money to "get better"? Gimme a break. That's pure nonsense!

Playing pool well doesn't equate to good money management.
