Table delivered not in exact specs

I expressed interest on an used GC3 from a local dealer and specifically asked for some rail extension work such that the corners are measured at 4.25" and the sides are 4.5". Initial request happened early in June this year.

Process was rather slow but in late August, I was told the person made a mistake on the extension work but he's got a workaround for me. The table was installed in my home with GC4 rails in September alas with some very forgiving pockets. He repeatedly promised the extension would be done, but as you have probably guessed it, it's not yet ready. I called, I texted, and I left messages, he promised to get back to me, but most of the time he never did.

The good thing is, I haven't paid him anything. I insisted to pay if and only if the table is setup in the exact ways I wanted.

What would you do? Keep playing on the table and praying that the extension will be delievered one day? Return the table and look elsewhere?

Mis read that
Sorry

Wait
Did you get a table in your house with no money out of pocket?

Yeap. I should probably work as a negotiator. However, the time spent in navigating through the process with this dealer has made me think he should probably be paying me instead.

Did they put temporary GC4 rails on your table while they rebuild your GC3 rails at their shop?

Indeed. The original setup was delayed for a few weeks and he was kind enough to put the GC4 rails as a temporary solution. He promised the extension would be done in a couple of weeks when the table was installed, but it's been 2 months now. He was supposed to call me 2 days ago to give me yet another update, but so far he hasn't done that.

Despite I'm playing on a "free" table, my patience is starting to run out.

Are you JOKING???!!!! I cannot believe that anyone would even leave their shop with a table with out any MONEY???!!

So you do basically have a free table and your problem is your patience?? You sound like you may need to re-evaluate the situation... You might spend $1000 on new cushions, cloth and proper extensions. Find someone who can do the work and move on with a $1000 table..... Is it Dave??? Sounds like his M.O. :) I am sure you can get this all worked out if you look at the bright side of things.

Gotcha. This is typical in the pool world, called "cue-maker time". My advice is to forget about it. When the installer wants his money, he will do your rails and deliver them. Until then, leave him alone, keep your sanity, and enjoy your free table. Your advice may be different :grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

Table is in your house.

I assume your specs are on the sales contract.

Ball is in his court.

I wouldn't do a thing except play on it.

You got the table installed for $0? Wow.

.

Sounds like I'm whining when I scored the deal of the century. Not only do I have the table without paying anything up front, it comes with a Diamond light fixture too. I chose not to install the light yet in the event this deal goes south.

Well, I'm going to pay the guy when the agreed work is done. My reputation and consciousness are worth more than the cost of the table. I'm just a bit upset for not going with the second guy who has proven to many that he does not live within the CMT zone.

It will most likely (hopefully) work out in the end. Make a decision and enjoy what you have or make adjustments. How much is aggravation worth. How much is your time worth. Is it worth waiting for?

Plus, GC4 rails are way better with their flat pockets.
Most here would gladly play on a great and free table like yours.
I just paid $900 for a GC3 with GC4 rails including new cloth and setup, which I thought was a good deal. Your current deal is $900 better...

Got a link to who sells these tables for this price? or was it a one time thing?

When you say GC3 with GC4 rails, what is the difference between a GC3 slate and frame vs a GC4 slate and frame?

2 good options. wait and you will get what you want.

or call him up and say you have two weeks or i am going to order new rails and have it completed and take that amount off what i owe for the table.

under no circumstances let them come into your home and remove it.

Unless new rails was in part of the original deal, new rails wouldn't be part of a punishment deal either. The table came with rails...used, not new....so what makes you think anyone owes NEW rails, and takes that cost of the original quote? Best thing for both parties is to just deliver and set up the GC3 and collect that money, let the buyer find someone on a separate note to extend the rails and tighten the pockets. We don't even have any idea what kind of money is being talked about in this deal....but that sure don't stop anyone from jumping to their own conclusions does it!

Your Fargo must be near 800?

4.25" corners and 4.5" sides is tough!

Last time i tightened up a set of pockets, the customer couldn't run a rack of balls, what does Fargo ratings have to do with a customers choice of pocket sizes? Does that also mean the better a person plays, the more expensive the players cue should be?

Here's my advice. Contact the seller, firm up the price of the table as is, delivered to your place, not set up. Have them pick up their pool table, thank them for the use of it, then say your good byes. If they knew what they were doing with the rails they'd have been done already, and by the fact they didn't charge you anything up front, that confirms what i already said. After you have the table in your possession, then send the rails to Mark Gregory to have them rebuilt. After recieving them back, then find someone to finish putting the table together.

You made one mistake in this sales transaction, assuming the seller of the table....also had the skills to tighten up the pockets correctly. It blows me away that so many people who buy pool tables, just assume everyone must know how to tighten up pockets correctly....right? If it was such common knowledge there wouldn't be so many screwed up pool tables around the country!
