IF i were sponsoring Pro pool events today, I'd start out with only the top 16 Pro's, decided by a skill level test before each event, as to always be able to allow new top 16 Pros to bump out those who played before them, that way the field of 16 keeps getting better and better. Then, I'd guarantee the pay scale for each event as follows. 16-9 pays $1,000 each, 8-5 pays $2,000 each, 4-3 pays $4,000 each, 2nd pays $8,000 1st pays $16,000....with no entry fees. I'd set up a live broadcast system so viewers could watch any of the matches by being able to switch back and forth between the 8 tables being used for a $4.95 a day viewer fee.
Then change the rules of 10 ball to a race to 21, single elimination format. winner breaks format. And a match time limit of 3 hours in a winner is declared, unless at the ding of the bell, the match being played needed to go into overtime during the 30 minute break between rounds to determine the winner. I would also allow an early win by knock out rule, that when there is a 10 game spread the match is called over as an unbalanced match between players. The only exception to that rule is if a player runs a 10 pack or more in which case once the player misses, the opponent can attempt to match the same run, failier to do so is an automatic loss. 30 second shot clock would ba available, but must be activated by one of the players first before it's incorporated into the match, BUT once activated both players must then play under the no extension rule, and will be penalised the loss of 1 game per time violation which will be awarded.to the opponent, and the player will begin under a new 30 second clock and will still be required to shoot.
Jump cues may only be used if it was used during a pryor shot, such as when making a safety push out, as it declares a players intent to make a jump shot before hand, but will not be allowed at any other time. No magic rack or any other racking aid. Rack your own, but failing to accept you own rack with in 30 seconds will be penalized by 1 loss to the opponent, an still be required to rack with in a new 30 seconds. Pattern of balls racked will be the same pattern at all times, failure to rack according to the rules will result in 1 loss, awarded to the opponent. Checking the rack by an opponent will not be allowed, if an opponent complains about the racking by the other player, 1 point loss will be assessed against the player and awared to the opponent for unsportsmanlike conduct. Any other unsportsmanlike conduct will first result in a 1 point loss, and awarded to the opponent. 2 unsportsmanlike like penalties will result in a forfeit of the match and loss of tournament prize money payment, and will be devided up between the remaining players equally.
All ball fouls will be in effect, in which case will result in loss of play for the offending player. Any 10 ball made on the break counts as a win. And once play has commenced, both players shall be allowed ONE lifeline per game.in which a player may choose to push out to play a safety without committing a foul, but must declare the safety before hand.
If I were a sponsor, and paying a field of 16 Pros a guaranteed pay out of $48,000 in prize money, that's how id do it....so, the world better hope i DON'T become a sponsor!!! Because i WILL change pool on the PRO level!!
