The fact that Lou chimed in to say that Pat played "pretty good" indicates to me that Pat is not the numnutz player he is being portrayed here, and that game with Lou was 20 years ago. I'm sure Pat is even better and wiser now.

The fact that Lou chimed in is because Lou and Pat Johnson have been like blood brothers since the beginning of RSB. THEY were the two primary individuals that started all the crap about Hal Houle and his aiming systems which still continue to today on this forum.

They'll defend each other and make grandiose claims all day long.

but in Pat's case I think it is barking up the wrong tree to discount his knowledge because he might only score 75% on Colin's potting test.

I don't think he could come close to 75%. Alan and all the great players like Efren take a nosedive when they get older and it starts in the 40's and 50's. PJ isn't going to get better in his 70's unless he was terrible when he was younger. Even at that, "BETTER" is only relative.

To be clear, your proposal is that you will stop asking for a video only if Pat ceases to give his opinion specifically about CTE, or about everything pool related?

Couple of things are interesting to me.

1. How good does a player have to play before he can be considered a good instructor? Also, aren't there different kinds of instruction? Some guys are good with the physics and can teach about why the balls do certain things, why certain shots won't go and others will. Other guys are good with competition and can raise your mental game without knowing a lick about physics, and so on. Seems to me Pat is often engaged in the more nuts and bolts type discussion about aiming, geometry and physics. You don't really need to be a pro to be informative. Look at Dr. Dave. Is he a world beater? No, but he shares a wealth of useful information.

2. I believe I signed up to AZB quite a long time before I really made much use of it. It was probably around that time that RSB was falling apart from Fat Larry and better internet technology that made these forums possible. I don't think I knew Lou any better than I know you. Still don't, actually.

Oh, and JMO, but if Lou really thought that Pat sucked I believe he just wouldn't have said anything. Let's get real. Do you really think a guy who has such obvious passion for the game for such a long time could be so bad that he's not sure which end of the stick to hold? You just don't like the fact that he disagrees with you on CTE and he can be pretty snarky about it to boot. That isn't a good reason to make up all this noise about his not being qualified to say anything.

Oh, I agree with you that doing a video once in awhile would be a fun thing. Not everybody enjoys being on camera or has the facility to do it though. It's just more difficult to do. Me, I have a table downstairs and can shoot a crude video any time. Then there's the converting and uploading which is kind of a pain.

Here's a FACT! You, Lou Figueroa, and Pat Johnson are all linked together from back in RSB days and have a strong, strong loyalty to each other and will not only go the lengths to protect and back each other, but do it even when there's a chance of being banned to further the cause.

It's mind numbing, absolutely mind numbing how all of you ganged up trying to beat on his head and wear him down. It really took some balls.

Equally mind numbing is how HE tried to politely answer all of the posts only to be led into MORE crap leaking off his responses and he gave no bans. What he did have to do after getting sick and tired of it is CLOSE the entire thread. LUCKY FOR ALL OF YOU!!! VERY GENEROUS ON HIS PART!!!

What level of play do you have to achieve before your comments are considered worthwhile? It seems to me that looking at how someone play misses the point. I mean, if a beginner starts to tell you why you made this or that strategic mistake and it sounded wrong, then that's one thing. But Pat is not a beginner and most of his posts can be verified one way or another, no? The last thing I remember is someone wondering why he can't make shots when both balls are frozen on the rail. Pat said it is because of the nose of the cushion pushing down on the ball and squirting it away. Well either that's right or it isn't. In this case it is right. I think a lot of Pat's comments are like that. They are verifiable in some way.

If someone shows me a good trick for hitting something like long rail shots and it works, I'm not going to ask to see the guys billiards credentials.

I know for a fact that Pat plays better than many guys posting here right now. I read some of the stuff from guys here whom I have seen play, or have heard reliable reports on, and you would think they could run 100 when they might not get out on a bar table.

You don't need to act as PJ's negotiator, PR person, attorney or anything else.

I'm not sure how I'm baiting or hopping on you. Asking questions about instructor qualifications is not baiting. It is discussion. You came close to a discussion when you agreed that Pat should be able to discuss physics and geometry without being attacked.
