Red Label to Blue Label conversion -- Diamond Table

A NEW SET OF RAILS will have a new set of sub-rails and cushion.

You think if some sent his Red Label tops to Diamond have them refurbish it, they'd just install new Artemis without redoing the subrails ?

What are you busting my balls for?

I was simply detailing what the actual technical issue with Red Label Diamonds is.

I could literally give two shits whether someone else fixes that issue by paying a table mechanic to re-miter the rails, or whether they buy a whole new top from Diamond.

Me PERSONALLY, I'd rather pay a well-reviewed table mechanic to fix the issue at my house,, rather than pay Diamond more money to fix a poorly-designed early product. If the cost was fairly equal, I'm going with the table mechanic option (as long as they have references for this particular work), as a matter of principal.

Realkingcobra re-mitered a set of Red Label rails at my house, and I am very sure they will play just as good as paying Diamond to ship a whole new top to my house.

And no one has clarified the main question: What gets done with the old Red Label top? Does Diamond allow one to trade them in? Or are they just firewood?

REAL TALK>!

There are literally 3 people I can think of I would trust to do a subrail mod....Someone thinks they are shedding light on a topic that has been THOROUGHLY discuss many times on here. Yes, we all know the red label Diamond tables dont play correctly.

If I had a red label table , I'd just get a new set of Super Speed.
Unless I really want it to play like a blue label.

If a Red Label Diamond is refurbished with brand new, 2018 rails from Diamond, does that make it play like a Blue Label table? If not, what would?

Well, the original poster had that question.
Then I said , I don't see why it wouldn't play like blue label after he GETS REFURBISHED RAILS from Diamond.

Then you told me I was spreading bad info. I WASN'T.

Dude, you're not the only who knows what the issue is about the red label.

A. Good luck getting RKC at anyone's house these days.
B. Name another reputable mechanic that travels that can do it right?
C. Obviously it would not be worth shipping them in the first place and not to mention there is ZERO chance of them giving you any discount....

All of this has been thoroughly discussed on here many times. Buying a new top is actually the best option at this point.

Did you get a nice new blue label badge to replace the red one when RKC did his magic?

I do believe Diamond made a poor playing table but I’ve talked to plenty of red owners that love the red labels.

Technically it was no longer "my" table. I sold the table to someone else in Colorado via Glen, and he came to my house and redid the rails for the buyer.

Not sure, but I don't think Glen changed out the badge.

Yeah.. I thought it played pretty good too, but I was mainly practicing at home by myself, and didn't really know it didn't play properly, I just thought that banks for darned sensitive to speed, and the Diamonds played pretty fast.

It was only a few years later, when I saw myself on film beating the ghost on that table, and seeing what a struggle it was, and dissecting how much effort I went through not to hit rails, that I realized how badly it affected my game.

I jumped out of my shoes every time I had to hit a ball where I'd gotten a bit too much angle.

Correct

You can actually buy a new Blue label top for the table.no sub rail mod, just a new blue label top: new rails, corners and aprons. . :)

That is what I did 4 Years ago replace existing Cherrywood rails for new Dymondwood Blue label top . Everything new but the slate and legs.

I had this done about four years ago by Donny Wessels from West State Billiards in Socal. It cost me just north of $1,000 to put a new Blue Label top on my table and I've never regretted it. Donny knows!!
P.S. Just to throw a side bar into the conversation, there is always a lot of discussion about whether a Diamond table or a Gold Crown is the best table. IMO they are both excellent pool tables! That said the GC1 & GC2's played just about perfectly when set up properly, and it may have been easier to set them up then a Diamond, which takes a lot of tweeking. I once owned a GC5 and I wish I still had that table. I replaced it with a Diamond for one reason, they had become THE table in most major pro tournaments and all the players coming through my house wanted to practice on one, understandably so.

For what it’s worth, I did mean rubber when I said rails. If I want to have the RAILS corrected in FL does anyone know a mechanic I could trust to do it in this area?
Tony Crosby, wes burden?...

Mark Gregory is the only one near you that knows how to .modify the rails. The blue label rails came out on the 9fts in October 2010, and the 7fts January 2011.

At that time they took the cherrywood rails etc.in trade for the new Blue label and sent two mechanics to do all the labor. My cost was $1600.

That is SUPER reasonable. I am surprised they took the old ones in, but, that's a great price. For those who do not have someone that can do it right locally, it sounds like this is the route I would take and will suggest to those interested. Thanks for sharing the info.

So If I understand this thread correclty these are my options:
Note I have a red label bar box (Rosewood Diamondwood Pro-AM)

1. Order new top from Diamond.
2. Plan trip to Florida and drop existing rails off w/ Mark Gregory then pu on way home
3. Wait for Glen to come through my area and feed him till he's done.

Freight back and forth to Diamond factory has got to be expensive. Indiana to NY

4. Sell table and by 9ft.

My advice would be 1. I did that and it worked out perfect .
