What is better and why?

What does the joint change in a cue?
is better a 378 x 10 joint instead a 5/16 x 14?

Why does it matter...?

That is a question you have to ask first, before you can truly be served.

If it is for feel, folks cant tell the difference in an amount approaching 100%. So it doesn't matter.

Looks? Some people care, so for them, it matters.

Compatibility with other equipment? It mattrrs.

Weight? It matters.

There is scant if any scientific evidence that one means to couple the shaft to the butt is usefully different to any other means.

Simply a matter of preference. I have multiple cues in both joints. If anything, the 3/8X10 will not take as long to put together in most cases.

If someone held a gun to my head and made me choose...I'd pick the 3/8X10.

So..everything is preference.. only having a low deflection instead of regular shaft will be useful or more convenient..weight and diameter are also a preference

You fool!
Never go in against a sicilian, eSPECIALLY when death is on the line!

The pin is only used to screw the shaft to the butt, period.
Now different pins and pin material can affect weight and balance.
And anyone that says they can tell the difference between pins should be taken with a grain of salt.
That means i doubt they can tell the difference.
Now I do believe you can tell with different collar materials and flat faced or piloted.

And many of you have different cues to make a comparison and find the best for your game..

IMHO whichever you prefer.

The 5/16x14 was good enough for Balabushka and is still used by great cue makers.

The 3/8x10 was introduced by Stroud on Joss cues.

They both screw together, they both work great.

Some will talk about the compression pilot...another matter for debate.

Usually the 5/16 is piloted with a brass insert in the shaft and the 3/8 is flat faced with no insert..usually, but not always.

I like them both but gravitate toward the 5/16 because of my old Joss.

I'm not sicilian..i am from Argentina..

This is a movie line reference - Princess Bride. Black-Balled is just dating himself with his 1980's movie knowledge. Of course I picked it up right away too, so not sure what that says about me.

Ok.

Probably i would buy different cues to prove the game.. thanks

To be honest for years I swore by 3/8x10. Wouldn't play with anything else. Then I got a deal on a cue that had a 5/16x14 and it hit great. Couldn't tell the difference actually. Then I realized it really doesn't matter if the cue is built well.

I still don't like metal joints but that's just an aesthetic thing. I have played with several and they hit just fine.
