Congrats! A slam dunk choice, but I could have done without his stats on the poster.
Yeah his 3rd place finish at The International Open really sealed the deal but i think he was a lock anyway,

Sky telling Johann see that score i just made the team right :rotflmao1:

This one was a no brainer. Going to battle without Sky would have been very foolish.

We all knew Sky was on the team. Shane as well. What I'd like to see is he surprises us by naming Justin Bergman to the team, only the third best player we have and one who gets along well with Sky and Shane. Say what you want about Justin, but he has the respect of the other players, and the man can get down in the dirt and play some pool under fire. I know damn well I would want him on my team. Ain't my call though. ;)

I would love to see Iceberg added to the team but i HIGHLY doubt there is any way in HELL Matchroom would admit they made a mistake in the selection process and put Justin on the Team lol

I totally disagree about Justin being the USA's 3rd best player i think he is clearly 2nd best and i know for a fact he would be willing to bet a lot of money to prove it lol

who you think is 2nd Jay ?

I say that because of the superb performance we just saw from a more mature Skyler. He showed us what he is capable of when he truly applies himself to the game, and shows the discipline to do what's necessary to be considered among the top players. He looked like a totally different Skyler Woodward than I've ever seen before. Like I said on that thread, I feel that his game jumped two speeds and I fully expect him to play well in the MC in December.

As an explanation point, he beat the mighty Shane decisively in a huge match under the lights in one of Pool's biggest arenas. Tell me what American player has done that in the last ten years!

The facts of this matter were that Justin declined to be in the Mosconi Cup squad earlier in the year when players were being invited by Mr Ruijsink. It was entirely his decision and no one else's. I'm not sure how he fits into the team now with the players who have spent a considerable amount of time and effort preparing as a team for this?

Agreed. Setting a precedent that only those who are serious about their preparation for the cup will be selected will, over time, help both Team USA and the Mosconi Cup.

Did Shane also declined to be considered for Mosconi earlier also?

I love to see Bergman in.

Here’s my thought process about the Mosconi Cup. It’s obvious more about show than proving who the best team or players are. That’s good for the general public and draws in fans even non pool players IMO.

Secondly, I feel we have the best three players in real heads up play meaning longer races and multiple races. IMO Shane can mow down the whole team in headsup play, playing longer sets. I feel the other two Americans that can also mow down their whole team in headsup play aren’t even part of the selection process. Justin Bergman I feel can also beat the entire European team in long set multiple set heads up play. Some are gonna disagree but I also feel Mike Dechaine can beat the entire team in long sets as well.

Lastly, the rest of our team Sky I feel is better than many of Europe’s players and could beat the majority of the team in longer sets. The rest of the players under consideration I feel is an underdog in any format to team Europe or team “3/4 of the world” as they should be called.

Of course my opinion(been around high level pool 30 plus yrs) doesn’t matter and doesn’t mean much in this showman format. I still think two players left off our team are better than team Europe in longer sets, again doesn’t matter in this format.

Just one players opinion which means nothing.

They say that a humour is good for your health so I thoroughly enjoyed your post, good one :D:D:thumbup2:

The Mosconi Cup isn’t a series of longer heads up sets. If the format changed, I’m sure Team Europe would do their best to adapt to and prepare for it. Anyway, it’s a team competition not a cash game - cash games have their place and we have incomplete information on them (and that’s probably just how the players like it). But this is a match, a competition, a tournament - winner breaks gambling mentality is completely and utterly irrelevant.

The USA will have a strong team this year. Europe will have a stronger team. I’m rooting for Europe but, as a pool fan, I want the USA to break the streak at some point and if it’s this year then that’s great for the game. Why can’t we all just get behind our team and avoid feeble, irrelevant strawman arguments in defeat? Sure, discuss and analyse - but maybe do it with a bit of detachment from a we-have-a-God-given-right-to-win mentality. Einstein was a pretty clever bloke and he said God doesn’t play dice. Pretty damn sure he doesn’t play pool either.
