doesn't say what a "full field" is. And $200 entry tournament with $1000 added money is, well, stupid.

When you ask that question you are assuming something. I wouldn't.
I'm not sure who the plaintiff was but the payment seems to have been to the PBTA Commissioner. After that, so far as I know, the players saw no money.
Flamingo??Well, just cancelled hard rock in which I got a complete refund, but lost out on the two nights at flamingo, as is non refundable through booking .com. So I’m out 144 us so far, plus my entry fee four the am tournament, which u never know demmitt. I’m glad a little, could’ve been worse
Hmmm... Lawyer at $200 an hour, probably 20 hours minimum to do that kind of job. .... No sponsor yet. $43.92 in my pocket. Whatever will I do?
Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but for pool it's not the sort of path most can/will take.
I'm reminded of the time the PBTA (men's pro tour) had a sponsorship from Camel. Somehow the tour ended up short $400,000 in the prize funds due to "other sponsors" who pulled out. Camel decided they didn't want to be involved any more and it cost them $800,000 when they were sued.
Oh, and somehow the players who were owed the $400k still didn't get paid.
Sounds pretty sketchy. The event website (https://www.thetornadoopen.com/) shows 3 sponsors: Operation Rehab, The Billiard Directory, and ONB Online Business. I'm not familiar with any of them.

I'm just sayin, all the Hard Rocks are owned by the Seminole Indians(except London and Vegas) and since this was being held at the new Hard Rock in AC(opened not long ago. Old Trump Taj.) Then maybe.....
Jason
....snip....I’d bet my whole sack that they would never stab them in the back at the last second like this, so it’s DEFINITELY omething else.
from post #3 above:

Forget all the Seminole stuff. One thing I know about them is if they say they are behind something they aren’t backing out, they can flush 100’s down the toilet till the end of time. They are definitely not to blame here. You get Mr Cypress or Osceola behind you and you’re golden.
Vivian like Corey Deuel made a fortune off of them and I’d bet my whole sack that they would never stab them in the back at the last second like this, so it’s DEFINITELY omething else.

It's on short notice so Ed is likely having to reach into his own pocket for the added... Outsville just kicked in another $200 and it's gonna be streamed... I am going to ask them to put up a paypal address for donations to add to the payout as it's should have great pro matchups....
From her Facebook post today:
"It is with a very heavy heart that I must announce the postponement of the upcoming Tornado Open in Atlantic City. After months of hard work of putting this event together, the main sponsor for the event just informed me last minute that they have backed out of their promised contractual agreement, which would now leave no money for the tournament payouts. Although I do have a written contract with this company, and will proceed with litigation to get the contracted funds, at this time I cannot go ahead with the event.
I apologize profusely to everyone that was planning on attending. Please be certain that I will do everything in my power to make it up to everyone in the near future in any way I can. I have learned a valuable lesson, and will hopefully announce a new date and time for this event soon, along with further details as to how to make it right.
I am embarrassed and devastated that I was not able to secure the necessary funds and that I am forced to cancel on such a late notice. All those who have already paid their entries will of course be refunded. Any other reimbursements that I am able to procure will be announced as soon as I am able.
Yours respectfully,
Vivian Villarreal"
