Push Strategy

I like to push out to where there is a bank possible and a safe possible. I hope that my opponent will try the bank with the thought that for most people, most banks are no better than a 50/50 chance to make.

If they pass it back to me, I'll then figure out which shot that I think that I have a better chance at executing, and I go with that option.

If you don't like the shot at anytime, just "roll" """"out". That's "r"eal" pool.

I think "real" 9/10-ball died out when one-foul BIH came into play.

At least as far as an entertaining gambling games to watch and/or play.

I'm not a fan of "kick" and "jump" pool.

I prefer watching the old school guys trying to "outsmart" each other.

Lots of the time when I push out I try to put the cue on a rail. This limits what they can do. I try to leave distance between cue ball and object ball. I also try not to leave any easy safety. I usually don't worry to much about what happens if they give it back to me, I deal with what happens after that when the time comes because you never know for sure if they are going to shoot or pass.

In my case, I know exactly what I'm going to try to do with it, if it is given back to me.

I don't know what my opponent is going to do with it, but I can guess based upon their skill level and the choices available.

My decision depends entirely on the opponent. Here are a couple of things that I take into consideration.

Playing a weaker player, if possible, leave a shot they are likely to go for but not make ie funky banks, tough angles, shots they cant get to the next ball with etc.

Stronger opponents wont take fliers off a push, so you are usually better off to leave them a weak safety return. If you set up a tough safe, they will use it against you.

The goal is to get back to the table with bih, if not, at least try to do something so you dont give up whitey, and have a chance to run or hook on the next inning.

I almost always roll whitey against a rail, with a slight
look at the OB... no matter what, my opponent has less
control of the CB if he can only top hit... cuts the
percentages down. If he passes it back, maybe I get
lucky and hide whitey..again, percentages.

I like an"""""" intelligent game too.

Why does" it"take 2 shots for a playe"r to get there", though"?

I don't remember the last time I have seen a push out done in a streamed tournament?

When people push to me, I overthink it, but 70% of the time I give it back. If I am in

Alcatraz after the break, I push. If I don't like the kick, or the bank or what ever the table

has given me, why would I think I would like it anymore if I give my opponent a chance

to beat me. I can lose all by myself. Don't need that guy executing a great shot off a

crappy push shot that causes me to lose the game. If I can kick at it, what makes you

so sure that you opponent can't? My hero just tells me to break better....:thumbup::thumbup:

I have seen players kick after the break.

Probably preferable to providing permission to shoot to their opponent.

At the top level, players today have the best skill set vs. any past era...
