The New "No Powder" Rule

I noticed that there's been some discussion recently on the Forums regarding powder not being allowed at the Derby City Classic event this coming week.

Let it be known that The International 9-Ball Open scheduled for October 28, 2019 has, by some coincidence, independently established that same policy for its event.

The tables and balls will be cleaner than ever.

I think that's an improvement.

I remember the good old days when Luther Lassiter would emit clouds of powder on his way to the table. I figured one reason he did it was to make landmarks on the cloth for position targets. I've been known to use the marks for that purpose when playing a powdery opponent.

My worst powder experience was against someone who sweated like he was in a sauna and used powder a lot. The balls were covered with mud the first time he racked and things went downhill from there.

Not powder but chalk.
Sometimes if i have to land the rock exactly near a rail i will chalk my cue and set the chalk on the rail where i need the rock to land.
Legal?
I dont think so but if my opponent doesn't say anything oh well.

No. Unsportsmanlike conduct. Potentially ejection from the tournament.

Wasn't sure if it was legal or not.
I didn't think it was legal.
I have never had anybody call me out on it.
I guess I'm too slick,LOL.
If we ever play I wont do it.

I heard at the pool room that Donny Mills backed out of the Derby because of this rule. I didn’t talk to him directly but that’s the word. Has anyone else backed out?

I'm not sure what this new rule means. Does it mean no more hand chalk, at all, or have they just eliminated "baby powder," from players' personal dispensers?

Not only is that link bogus - 'youtu.be' - but once you fix the domain name, the content isn't found.

You don't need to fix the domain name, but if you really wanted to, it becomes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY2dUuMj8q8&t=166

youtu.be lets you shave off the whole "watch?v=" portion of the link. Think about all the things you can do with those extra characters.

Not all domain names end in ".com" y'know

... If they are going to get rid of things, they should get rid of jump cues, chalk that sticks all over the cue ball, one-foul BIH, and other stuff...not baby powder.
And maybe the rule where it is OK to hit the cue ball two or three times if you click your heels three times. Well, the heels part is j/k but the multiple hits rule is true. You do have to jack up, though.

If you're trying to access the link from your smarty-phone, your app may be choking on the time stamp. Smarty-phone browsers seem not to handle the time specs correctly.

Exactly Right

I wear a glove now, but I prefer bare handed and using baby powder.

I wouldn't mind if they did away with the jump shot altogether, like snooker.
