50s Martin. Original condition. All white is ivory snd the wrap is pig skin. Wonderful cue.

Got one with Delrin vs ivory.
In the shop being glued and trued. Rattles like a maraca.
Can't wait to try it on pool balls. Can't do a thing with it hitting 3C balls.

That's the earliest I've heard of someone hollowing out a shaft. Do you remember the shaft diameter and the wall thickness?
I made a few new shafts for myself. I would have done that after seeing a Predictor. So when ever that was maybe mid 90s. The shaft is 13 but I don't remember what size I did the hole. It was just an experiment and I liked it.
I was done making any changes to the butt though. I sometimes I play with other cues but keep going back.

Was it a pool or 3c cue? Looks to be a later model?

I’ve hit with probably 5-6 of these over the years, never owned one , I remember seeing one with a ivory handle. It weighed 26-27oz that cue didn’t hit too good. Was made from old cue balls. Rick wanted 9k for it in 91/92 as I recall.

yours is wonderful thx for the pics

Thanks brother I appreciate it. Yeah I think he made 3? With the ivory sleeved handle. If I’m not mistaken they were or at least one of them you could change the handle sleeve out.

When I first got it I put the ob a Diamond away from the corner pocket on the rail, cb behind line and hit that truck shot 3 rail draw into opposite corner I said DAM GIRL! Gave it a kiss and back in the case it went

I realize "hit" is often subjective, and that's ok- I'd still like to hear about it
and if there's some technical spec., balance, length, weight, wood, etc. worth mentioning, please do
Not sure but i remember it hit a ton!!

I once shot with a cue forged by the dwarven blacksmiths named Etri, Brok, and Buri. It was originally possessed by Odin, the All Father. Crafted from wood taken off the branch of the world tree Yggdrasil. It’s properties could enable a SL2 to be able to draw the cueball three table lengths on command. It was treated in the waters of the well Mimisbrunnr with a nod of approval from the headless Mimir and imbued itself and it’s wielder with the wisdom to runout the most challenging of racks. The tip was taken from the hide of Gullinbursti, the golden boar. Contact with this tip will grant the cueball struck with resistance of all skids and miscues. And the ferrule was carved from a fang of Jormungandr which provides the stick with a hit so pure that the confidence and physicality of the player is immediately enhanced and unafraid to take any action. I played with it once and learned all I know of pool from a single game with that cue in hand. I won the match and lost the cue in the same act as I failed to comprehend the wording of the wager with Loki. And last I heard the cue was gifted to Surtr and never to be seen again until after the events of Ragnarok. And as the tale goes it shall be broken upon the table by Earl Strickland after a missed shot when a black fly bites his bridge hand during his stroke. It is a shame no other shall know it’s splendor.

I think its a pool cue. Fair amount of deflection hitting 3C balls.
Only attempted 3 shots. Missed the OB 3 times, then put it away.
Possibly the tip needs some attention. Anyway glad I was able to find it and it wasn't outrageously priced.
I'm told late 50's - early 60's. Who knows. Don't care. It's a Martin.

I was kinda hoping folks would post a pic of their favorite playing cue. A little cue porn on a Sunday morning is nice.

This is my favorite cue.
This cue could use a refinish but I doubt I will ever do it. It's a 5 point Purpleheart with MOP inlays. It's made a little different in that the the handle piece under the wrap is Purpleheart and extends to the end of the cue. The end of the cue is not a sleeve. The handle and nose piece are connected through a phenolic ring hidden under the wrap.

The shop is still sitting there collecting dust in my building, but if I was ever to make cues again I would make only full splice cues like Joel Hercek. I don't think there is a better way to build a cue.

That case my wife gave me for Christmas years ago. It is, if I remember right, a Kelli case.

Yes I recall it being 3 sleeve cues. I recall seeing one and being told there was 3 total. Great memories 😀😀🎩

I’d have to play with a cue and with a tip for a couple weeks. I’ve only used three main cues in the 53 years I’ve played.

I’ve hit balls a few games with other cues but how to judge? And every tip is different so how does one distinguish the tip from the cue? Personally I find the tip makes more difference than the cue. The tip is like a familiar baseball glove that you can snag any ball with.

Favorite cue so far is ebony 6 point FS made for myself.
I make very few cues, only make 4 or 6 point FS, no wrap.
Shafts are drilled 9/32" x 7" deep. I first made shafts around 1985, wanted to try drilling, but only had cheap borrowed wood lathe to work on at the time & could not make it work. Dropped out of pool until about 10 years ago. Started making sticks for myself again because i was too cheap to spend $$ top try & find something that suited.

(Break cue is bloodwood into satinwood.)

I nominate this as funniest AZB post of the year

I do not believe "HIT" is measurable, as there is NO HIT MEETER. I thnk hit come down to like a Judges Opinion when judging something like Western Equation, or Dressage in a Horse Show. It is not like Grand Prix Showjumping where pricing winder is easy. Time, Number of Jump Cleared, and Last Error Points Penalized.

Friend had what he believe was Balabushka very solid hit, other favorite is Titlist Conversions, as old wood is very dense and feels good.

Interpetation of hit could change if your arthritis is flailing up, like taste changes if your drink with meal change from black coffe to coffee with sugar or cream.

What I consider Hot Spicy Food, Sid what other consider not for human consumption, because they do not like REAL HOT Like Ghost, Scorpion, Reeper Hot Peppers.
Genuinely curious if you're okay...

Ignore the entitled they haven't earned respect
Always subjective to the user. I prefer the feel and hit of Southwest although my current AE plays like a dream.

Gus Szamboti Hoppe cue. Probably 99% the mystique of the cue/builder/history more than anything but gosh that man could build a cue that moved the cue ball.

I have owned several older Schon cues that play superb as well and could not be taken lightly. From that point it typically goes downhill.

One thing is certain about hit…cues with low hz frequencies and longitudinal waves with large distance between the crests and troughs….are inefficient piss poor instruments/tools.

Unless you’d using them for trick shots the fouetté.

The switch bearing players would do better journeying to the Nelwyn Valley, on the western continent of Andowyne and learn some spells from the sorcerer Willow Ufgood.

Out of the way Peck!

From my own personal experience, I would say the cue that you used the longest. Fact of the matter is that if the tip is rounded, the cue is straight, and deflection properly accounted for, all cues will perform roughly the same. Things like "feel" or "hit" or "sound" are all mental. People shoot better with certain cues because that's what they feel more comfortable with. When people are more comfortable, they perform better. The cue itself is not necessarily performing better.
