The Legendary Pearl to Take On 14.1 Attempts

Getting past 526 will get a player a significant amount of dough -- getting past 626 will get a player *a lot* of dough.

Bobby does not want the numbers advertised but I've been told what they are and I'm impressed and it's enough to entice the best in the world to take a swing.

Is John Schmidt eligible?
Pretty sure he can hit those numbers.

Being serious here.

No, not at this time.

First off, John conducted his event and did what he did. He never invited anyone else to participate so we feel absolutely no compunction to invite him to ours.

Second, we have a long list of world champions we'd like to see try this and they will take precedence over John.

Third, John has been bad mouthing Bobby and our event on a variety of social media platforms for quite a while now. That has not gone unnoticed by the guy in charge of organizing and funding our event.

Having said all that, perhaps at some point down the road an invitation might be extended to John, but that is not on the table at this time.

Earl quitting for the day on a 140 ball run reminds me of a story from St Louis. A guy named Butch who used to run a pool hall on the Illinois side told me Bill Hendricks game in one day and ran 15 racks and unscrewed. Butch asked him if he wasn't going to finish the run. Bill said "I'll finish tomorrow".

Smaller tip is more inclined to miscues the further off center you go, where as a wider tip still covers quite a bit of the ball when off center.
Again, intuitive but not the case.

Miscuing is about the tip's curvature, not its width. If the tip, large or small, has enough curvature to match the CB surface angle at the miscue limit (30° per side, 60° total), then it won't miscue before that - and all tips, large or small, miscue after that. Typical size tips, large and small, with normal curvatures (nickel/dime) match that description - none miscue any more or less than another.

Why do people make it seem like schmidt was having an event? he literally just tried to beat the record a bunch... sounds like "this is our playground and you can't play in it" preschool politics happening. but whatever, I'm still gonna watch and don't care either way. It just looks a bit childish.

If it wasn’t an event then it wasn’t an exhibition. Therefore it’s just a practice run and it doesn’t break Mosconi’s record. He was calling it a announced exhibition which would mean it is something in a similar vein to what is happening here. I know this sounds like splitting hairs, but the goal here is to set the exhibition high run and I think we are already blurring the lines between practice runs and exhibition runs.

I get it, but at this point I feel like everyone is being childish about everything involved with this. All I'm trying to say is you would think a bunch of adults would be better than this.

I've just watched a little bit, and his patterns are really, really weird. Too me it looks like he's never even played straight pool, almost, though I know for a fact he has (Maine event). He does display knowledge, but it's more general pool knowledge, rather than straigtht pool specific knowledge. He breaks up clusters at the right speed and does seem to plan ahead, but his plan seems different than what other players may do. It just doesn't look like a straight pool run. The pocket size may play into it, he may not take "insurance balls", proper patterns and other such concepts as seriously, because he thinks he can shoot his way out of anything the table leaves him. He can, but not to a high enough percentage to break the record(s). He of course has the stroke and the touch, that goes without saying, but he needs more that that to break even 526.

Anyway, I do wish him all the best and I wouldn't be surprised if he started improving or adapting quickly as he went along. He certainly has the talent.

Thats just bullshit, if the 626 is recorded, witnesses watched it, it don't make a damn difference if it was an exhibition or not, besides the point.

Now practice sessions, unverified, thats where all the unbelievable bullshit starts because its NOT recorded, or witnesses verified, BUT expected to be believed because the person who did it said so.

For example, Earl. His two high run claims, 408 and 480, neither of which can be verified, but, here's what I've seen so far. Great shot maker he is, lousy 14.1 player he is too. I don't care how old a player gets, the ONE thing a 14 1 player NEVER forgets is how to run a rack of balls playing pattern after pattern, and controlling the cue ball like it was on a string. Just because Earl plays 14.1, that don't make him a 14.1 player. SVB shot the same kind of patterns Earl has picked, ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Whereas everyone who's watch all three players so far, Ruslan sticks out as a real 14.1 player because he ran racks so effortlessly as opposed to Earl or SVB.

That horse has been beat to death
Resurrected, and beaten to another bloody death ad nauseam

Let's not kick the bees nest again so we can all move forward ,
Pretty please

The point I'm trying to make is it's dumb that there is such animosity between those hosting this and Schmidt. It's just stupid. Show up, run balls and that's what it is. Why do people care so much.

... and some of the people involved in this event have been bad-mouthing John Schmidt "for quite a while now".

Children.

And they started the bad mouthing first, let's NOT forget that!!!
Not true at all. You have no clue or knowledge how far back it goes that john acted out against me. And as far as anything else you can just not watch the event or comment on anything if you dont like it.. You have been a hater before our event ever started. Also to note who ever videos their runs or practice? Do you think Cranfield kept a video camera around when he ran 768 in 1971? or when he ran 704 and 709 in 1968? The answer is no one has ever recorded their runs all the time except John and the amazing thing is I was one of the 1st people to make contact to him to congratulate him on 626 even after all the terrible things he has said and continues to say about me. He also said he would use his run to help pool so how has it helped anything but himself. John live streamed all his other runs but not a 626. Then all of sudden everyone hears about it but their was no video proof available to the public to see on youtube or even a video and thats his decision but it hasnt helped pool as he promised he said he would do. Its the only record in any sport that has video and no one can see it on the internet or order a copy and pay for it.
As far as you Glen you have never been positive about anything and thats ok but we will continue to do our event as we want to and you or anyone else can organize and put up your time and finances and do it your way and we would support it even if we didnt agree because thats what everybody should do is support and help pool. Lou said everything correct and that is our stance. Maybe down the road we will invite John but he has alot to do and change for him to be invited. We have NEVER SAID anyone wouldnt be allowed to play but if john wants to ever play then he certainly isnt helping anything out by his actions. I hope you change your ways also and use your knowledge to stay positive and help pool and its a new year so maybe you will change your ways.

I'll say it for the 547th time.....

And people wonder why pool goes nowhere.

Instead of celebrating an accomplishment that should elevate the game of straight pool, you got a bunch of haters casting shade on a guy with more talent in his little finger than they have in their whole body.

Nonsense.
It was filmed, it happened....

JEALOUSY

That's what keeps pool where it's at.
Every tournament director, player, pool room owner all competing over crumbs.

Just congratulate someone for their accomplishments and successes ... Knowing that every accomplishment and success makes pool better.
