Turning Stone Classic XXXVI

A little googling reveals he appears to have become strongly connected to Campus Ministry things at Lindenwood, met a future spouse through that, lost interest in pool, is into music and coffee (a brewing podcast), and is a 2nd-grade teacher in KY or MO.
You mean there are sources for billiards information other than AzBilliards? Blasphemy!!!!!!

I'm disappointed Earl Strickland, SVB, and Corey Deuel aren't playing in the tournament.

Pleasantly surprised to see Archer playing though

i think players are turned off by the breaking rules. tyler said in the pool player podcast that he was. earl may be barred for the air boxing episode last time, idk. it wouldn't be the first time? zuglan is sailing a tight ship..

I don't know...with the level he was playing at, and U.S. pool being in the state is was and is, he could have continued to improve just competing part time and continuing to work on his game at home. Strange to just turn your back on it completely. My hunch is, it was always more his father's passion than his. Hope things are going well for him.

When Landon was younger, he used to accompany his dad to pool happenings. I remember meeting them at the Derby City Classic at the Old Executive West. I do think his dad was hoping to help Landon hone his pool-playing skills to eventually turn pro. He did compete in a few junior events, as I recall, and played in the U.S. Open at the age of 12.

His father contacted me back in the mid 2000s, may have been right here on AzBilliards, and said he'd like to send me something. There was a country song that reminded Landon of Keith, and so he sent me the CD, some autographed photos of Landon as well as an autographed cueball, which has written on it: Ripley's Believe It or Not 2002, Kentucky Life 2003, David Letterman 2002, Ellen DeGeneris 2003, Good Morning America 2004, Tony Danza 2004. Yep, Landon was on a trajectory to turn pro. What a beautiful gift! I never forgot it.

When he went to college, however, as happens with all young folk, he developed new interests. He is a man of strong faith and met his sweetheart in college. Today they're married and living quite happily together. I'm sure his dad is not disappointed that Landon went down a different path. They're a great family.

Has anyone made a $20 contribution and streamed tables outside of table 8 that is streamed free and commentated? What is your impression of the quality of the streaming? Thanks.

Stu, this is the strongest field we have had here since pre-covid. I would love to say that I would take the field against Shaw/Gorst, but that might still be a losing proposition.
You got action for $20-I got the 2 elbow droppers who can’t play and you have the field. I’ll pay double if JA wins just to give you a bit more equity.

We’ll square up at the derby

😃🎰🎰

Fatboy

PS: are you on the GAL?😉

Just goes to show you how a few bad decisions can screw up your whole life. He could have been a pro.

did he stop playing? He beat earl strickland 10 years ago as a kid and I thought he was the future of USA pool at one point. But haven't seen or heard about him much since.
He used his brain. He went to and graduated college. Mark Wilson was his college pool team coach. IIRC Landon is a teacher of some sort.

what are the breaking rules?

Considering this is part of matchrooms 9 ball circuit/tour or whatever they call it, I'm surprised there is no special graphic on the main stream table.

I take it they are nice enough to be completely hands off and let Zuglan do it his way.

Yes, especially because this is the only event in America that runs on schedule year after year after year. Mike's the best tournament director in the Northeast US and is in the discussion for the best tournament director in America.

There's a reason that the Joss Tour has been around for about 25 years and there are usually dozens on the wait list to get in.

I wish I could borrow some of his ability if he doesn't want to use it 🙂

No, have you purchased it yet? That OnSitePool portal has repeatedly had issues in the past streaming multiple tables at other events. Has it improved? A pretty weak field anyways.
