2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

I'm starting to like Snooker after watching a few frames across different players.

I can't get over the speed! I really wonder if the speed is a culture that is game specific. I'm watching Si from China now, and he is blazing fast also. Whereas Chinese pool players are a bit on the slow side in general. European pool players are slow as molasses in general. But European snooker players seem very fast. (besides the guy Bob mentioned). What gives?

I took too long doing chores at interval. Come back to, "this is outrageous ". Si was doing it.🤷

The comments include, "such a comfort zone" as Si runs the balls. 4-1
Also mentioned that Brecel is looking at 7-1 if he doesn't respond.....quickly.

The ball patterns/safeties are generally the same and once you get to a high level and get an opening shot the break building is normally quick. A good safety battle is fun to watch and see who's gonna screw up first.

Mentioned the fluked pink in the first frame being a "but for" factor in the only frame Brecel has won.
Brecel made the same mistakes against Ronnie. Ronnie didn't charge him . Any mistake against Si is most likely to be charged Double.
Oh no Stephen just gave him the comment curse. Pronounced him Relentless and he missed the simple black.

there are slow players, like kaci slow. but they have gotten fewer with the game becoming more aggressive in general.

My observation leads me to think this is the battle of eye patterns. Si seems to shift from white ahead of the strike. Brecel's eyes seem to stay down longer. So appropriate disclaimers as to what they actually do. But my theory is that Brecel should exhibit more precise cue ball placement. Si has already put immaculate shot making on display. That's a huge intimidating factor.

We got such a good look at Si's eye pattern whilst he escaped the trap that his incredible cue power had placed the cue ball. So the pin point, better than inch perfect., cue ball overcame the Power. Game On!

As for the lack of safety.... In frame 7, Brecel had 36 points from Si's fouls before he potted a color. Six misses in one position and three in another.

Hope Mark Allen and Mark Selby can bring as much entertainment. Coming up in..2 and half hours. 5-3.

Pool terms:)...

When Si was stuck in the stack and kicking 2 rails to hit that middle color by the head string, he kept missing it by a mile for 4 or so tries in a row before he finally got closer (but still was missing). Question: was he strategically trying to hit the right edge of that color specifically (as we were viewing the screen)? Or, was he trying to hit any part of the ball, and his adjustments were simply not working for him? I kept looking at the screen and saying to myself why doesn't he just hit the first rail 2 ball widths to his left, so the CB would go much longer, since he was off so much.

Thanks.

He was measuring each shot. Making sure of avoiding a full hit which might be fatal. A few flesh wounds are acceptable.😉

The middle color is the brown or the "4 ball" as a pool player would say.

I think Si was trying to hit any part of the ball from that position. He did a surprisingly bad job of adjusting but I think he may have had to use side spin to get to it. If he didn't need the side spin, he really needs to work on that part of his game.
